Jeff, I realize this a difficult one, but are there any plans to add some form of automatic speaker calibration, à la Pioneer and Yamaha lately? It seems to me that they may have found something to make a difference on the 'larger' consumer market. Personally I think it can't be long before...
The 55TXi SRP will be around 1700$ but the equivalent VSX-2012 will be at 1200$. Am I missing something here??? This is the same link at Pioneer Electronics from the 25th of june but for the 'European' numbers ! http://pioneerelectronics.com/Pionee...,93035,00.html
There will be a P, R and A-965. Mr Hipps will surely be able to help you with availability, which I believe will be somewhere after the summer... Sven.
Thanks Carl (and the rest of you), I'm just worried about the look of a isobaric sonotube. Driver sticking out, ugly long legs. I'm considering the DT300 amp, will I need two of them to power the two Tempests? With the long ports needed with isobaric design, wouldn't I loose most of the volume...
@Carl : 115L Isobaric Sonosub matching an SVS Ultra? Hmm, my wife will definitely like this. Today, she asked me if I was really planning to put this 200L cylinder in 'her' living room... I really didn't look into isobaric until now, just because I thought it wasn't possible in a sonotube...
No, F3 shouldn't be equal to Fb. I wonder if it's even possible to have a tuning point which is already 3dB down. My problem with this design is that I'm not able to simulate it, not with LspCAD, not with WinISD, not with Unibox and not with the Ported.xls file. So I wonder if this particular...
Kyle, Patrick, thanks. I also think that I will simulate on PC and just build it. Problem is that I can't simulate Dan's design. Furthermore, the more I read about stuffing and leaking, the more I'm getting doubts. I've been playing around with the settings in unibox (light stuffing, walls...
Some time ago I found what could be called a 'non-official' 3rd Tempest alignment on this forum, vented and at 175L. I have been putting the figures into several programs, but I don't seem to be able to duplicate his results. - 175L net - Fb = 17,5 Hz - 10,2 cm port dia(4") - 43,2 cm port...
Thanks people for all the input so far. As I had a very hard time finding my 18"x48" piece of sonotube, I will start with the 175L allignment. (I can always make it smaller later on...) I will go for a vented design and at the same time providing a way to close the port to enable sealed/vented...
Indeed, I've never understood myself how people EXACTLY define their port lengths, because with all the programs it's like turning around in circles... Your tactic will surely help me. Thanks.
Download all the ZIP files together with the Unibox program. Then import all the (unpacked) files. After having appended all files, sort on name. You should be able now to find the Shiva in the list (just before the Tempest). Sven.
Try Unibox once. I find it to be much more flexible and it gives me more information. And it takes into account the amount of stuffing. Just my idea...
Oh yes, I have gone to the Adire website! It's nr 1 on my favorites lately.:D I didn't really look at the sealed enclosures until now, but the vented apps all look to large for me. Dan Wiggins gave a 3rd 175L alignment for the Tempest some time ago on this forum and by mail, but I don't seem...
So sealed sub performance in real life seems like a question of hope based on more or less room gain? Is this room gain as important with a vented design? Would an anechoic F3 of let's say 23Hz give me a in room F3 of maybe 14Hz? (in your case from 35Hz to 20Hz) If I understand well sealed...
Thanks Andrew. I just have been playing around with LspCAD and Unixbox for a sealed Tempest sub. I never really looked at it, and I must say it gives me strange results without the possibility to tune the thing. I'll try some more calculations but at first view it seems that below 40-50Hz there...
Oops! Yes indeed, thanks Ryan, I meant 48" x 18"!! I hate these small scrolling forum typing windows. ;-) What about taking lowering the vent speed by taking a larger port diameter? Problem is that F3 goes up. Do you (or anyone else?) have any ideas about the stuffing? I read Tom...
Well, lets start saying that most of the sonosubs I have seen here are huge. I want to try to sneak something a little bit smaller into our living room. Lawyers have been contacted... ;-) So for a 60m2 irregularly shaped room, half of which is the actual sitting corner , I have settled on a...
Dalton, hope you like the Rotel combo. Besides the 3803 and the 45TX I am also considering the Rotels. After reading about pre/pro and receivers I was more and more biased towards the Rotels. (I can't afford Anthem and others :frowning: ) I still didn't manage to demo Rotel equipment, but I'm...
Anyone know if the 958 pre/pro will have proper bass management, i.e. variable crossover setting for all channels?
Will we see this model with the amp this year?
For those who have hands-on experience with the 45TX and 3802 (3803). How would you compare the two for home cinema (cinema) and for hi-fi (stereo)? I guess I will be using it on a 50 video/50 music basis. Which one would be the best suitable with mini's like the Gallo's, B&W VM1 or even KEF...
Thx for all help and advice so far from the other side of the ocean, but there is just one thing I can't figure out : How is the bass management of the 45TX working? Which crossover settings? Individual settings per channel? None of the Pioneer websites worldwide does clarify this rather...
After months of reading, comparing, listening, reading, hesitating, buying some other things, some more reading, ... I finally limited my choice for a receiver to the 45TX, VSX-2011 in europe, and the 3802, well the new 3803.
Yamaha, Kenwood, Marantz, SHerwood-Newcastle were disqualified...

No, I didn't buy the unit because I wanted to wait for the pre/pro and because of other 'priorities' :D
They are just making a lot of fuss about it on the French and Swiss forums. Anyway it's a bug confirmed by several owners, but maybe there are differences between the US and...
Has anyone heard or experienced the following bug which apparently is posted on a bunch of european (french) HT forums? For those who understand French here is a link to one of the descriptions Link Removed
I haven't verified this as I don't own one of these receivers. (I'm waiting for the...
In a March 2002 article at Hifissimo.com the French reviewer Jean-Patrick Grumberg says the following (I translated into English) :
"Sherwood is the first manufacturer in the world of Home Cinema Amplifiers. A part of the actual (and passed) models of Denon, Marantz, Harman, Rotel, Teac...
