APEX ADR1000 (progressive DVD + PDR)

Tivo/Replay's features only come in handy if you have lots of Cable or DSS channels. And if you are already paying out the A$$ for that service then a little more wouldn't hurt too much. But if you are like me and have just basic cable with 30 channels, then the advance features don't mean...

Silly Question about 16:9 Mode on Panny PT-51HX42 4:3 HDTV

I have both a Sony Wega 36" non-HDTV and a Panny 51HX42 HDTV. And I have tested both and read both manuals a million times. you guys are confusing 16x9 display vs 16x9 squeeze. 16x9 display is built in to the DVD disk.. if you buy a DVD that says "Wide Screen" you get 16x9 picture. if you...

need help: nsp1 or Velodyne CHT speaker systems

David, Go with the Velodynes!!! match this with the CHT-80 and you have yourself one sweet system. If there was a big price difference then go with the JBLs but since the only difference is shipping cost (and also white speakers), you cant lose by choosing the Velodynes

Results of my blind cable A vs. B test

Bob, With STEREO sound, there are different signals going to each speaker. I don't remember what sound track I was listening to, but the difference I heard that day might have been contributed to this. So since the test was invalid, I could not use those results as the basis of my opinions...

Results of my blind cable A vs. B test

Shion, It's great that you took the time to test this debate for yourself. When I first got into HT, I took a listening test also. I took 2 different cables and plugged them into the left and right and turned the balance from left to right... and boy was i surprised!!! My virgin ears heard the...

    Banana Plugs?

Chu, The remarks wasn't aimed towards you... I was just seeing if anyone wanted to buy a $500 power cable... ;) Anyways, I love banana plugs for the convience factor. Do they make a difference?, probably not! As long as they are made from a material that does not easily oxidize and are kept...

    Banana Plugs?

If a $500 power cable can change the sound after 500 miles of cheep copper, then surely a 20mil gold plated banana plug can change the sound to.... :D

    difference between denon 3801 and 3802 ?

Not really.. there's not any new formats out. The 3802 has all the decoders. Maybe Denon will have their own matrixed 7.1??? A new remote would be nice.

    Newbie Question

I would have to disagree with the following quote

    7 channel receiver

Ray, There are no "TRUE" 7.1 sources out there. Lexicon (HK) matrixes 5.1 into 7.1 with their Logic7. The other manafactures also matrixes the orginal source to 7.1. To buy a product with 7.1 now is just a waste of money since you have no decoder for it. The Denon 3802 has 7 channels of...

    difference between denon 3801 and 3802 ?

Steve, I know that one of the main differences is that the 3802 has Dolby ProLogic II and the 3801 does not. I beleive that they are the same in almost all other specs. BTW... the 3803 is just around the corner :)

Made in Japan components....are they better than others?

Chu, If you dont like my first 2 arguments, then here's another one. How about Total Cost. The labor outside Japan might be soo cheap that to recall or refurbish a part is more expensive than to make a new one. Therefore to spend lots of money to make the plant and personal equivalant to the...

Made in Japan components....are they better than others?

2 Arguments on why Japanese made specs are better than outsourced 3rd world manafacturing plants. 1) We can all agree that the education level in Japan is far better than the outsourced countries. And that the average quality of life in Japan is also much more advanced (for example: A...

    Difference between 950 and 1066

Jason, If you are looking for specs or features, they are available at both manafactures website. If you are looking for sound characteristics... That would depend on your own personal perference. It really comes down to this. Rotel is a more refined and mature product. OutLaw is less...

    Technics' name change to Panasonic

    Technics' name change to Panasonic

John, "Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd - produces electric and electronic products under the Panasonic, National, Technics, Quasar, Victor and JVC trade names." The 2 Sub Divisions are Panasonic and Technics. I think that JVC falls under the Panasonic Division. I was shocked when...

    Technics' name change to Panasonic

Technics, Panasonic & JVC are all the same company. I think that, in Europe Technics is more popular, in Japan Panasonic and in the US JVC.

The straight dope on Componant *vs* S-Video on a 27" VVEGA.

John, Theoretically Component Video is better than S-Video which is better than Composite (Standard RCA). BUT.... If you dont calibrate your TV right, S-Video can look better than Component Video. I beleive that the Sony Wega series can take full advantage of Component Video, So you should...

Audio - Digital Coax to Optical (tos-link) convertor

Derek_R, I wouldnt use any converters. Why dont you use the Optical cable for your DVD player and use the CoAxial for your Digital Cable Box instead. FYI: I think Partsexpress.com has some sort of converter.

Upgrade from 5.1 to 7.1 at Hand - Please Critique My Reasoning

CliffK, You dont want us to "Please Critique My Reasoning". What you want is to suggest a 7.1 HT system for under $1875. In that case, IMHO.... You started out great with the Outlaw 950 for $950, that leaves you with $925. You can buy 2 Parasound HCA-855 (10 x 85 watts)on ebay or ubid or...

    What does RCA actually mean?

Daniel, To make a long story longer :). Analogy of the why we call the plug RCA can be made with the computer PS2 mouse. IBM came up with the new connector in their PS2 computer line. After a while the industry picked up on it and started to use it. Before long it became the industry...

    Receiver & Speakers < $550 ?

Speakers + Receiver for $550.. That's a tough one... If this is your first surround system and you dont want to spend a lot of money, I would suggest one of those All-in-One mini-systems. The reason why is becasue if you like this hobby and want to get into it more, you can always move this...

    7.1

Bob, It wouldnt really matter what inputs you use. DVD, CD, TAPE would all use the front 2 channels. The only time you would be using the ohter 3 channels is if you use the 5.1 input (that is the center and 2 rears). But in your case you are trying to "mulit-zone". 2 rear speakers for the...
  28. Eric_Lakes

    7.1

Bob, I would use the CD input. With alot of Receivers, the Front 2 Channels are better (have differnt specs. ex: higher wattage) then the other 3 channels. On some Receiver, the Front 2 channels have Banana Plugs while the other 3 have the push type.

    Help: Receiver suggestion??

Steven, For $2500 you are much better off going separates. Pre-Pro means Pre-Amp/Processor in other words, separates. Receivers are for the mass consumer market. Manafactures have to update the product line every year to keep prices high and retain consumer interest. Search this forum or...
