    sigh, the next set

Way too early to buy new speakers (just got these 2 months ago), but I was just wondering what brand/line of speakers is the next step up? Keyword is step, not leaping 3 stories or anything here :)....I spent about $1700 for the speakers and receiver, so maybe $2000-$3000 for my next set...

AVR 1602 and DD: voice from the rears?

Actually, that explains a lot (that RE isn't too spiffy audio-wise). I'm trying out Bob's recs regarding adjusting the volume for the center and having it point directly at me (it was pointing straight ahead below my tv). I'm using several movies to test this: Vertigo (5.1), Gladiator (DTS)...

    Connecting for video games

Dunno if I read your situation right, but connect the audio L and R to the receiver and the video to the TV. That's my setup for my Gamecube (analog audio to the receiver and RGB cable to the tv).

AVR 1602 and DD: voice from the rears?

Doh, that was what I meant. The fronts are already louder than the rears (since I'm sitting closer to the rears). Should I just up the fronts even more even though it'll be 'non-Avia'-calibrated anymore?

AVR 1602 and DD: voice from the rears?

I did the whole Avia thing with the SPL meter already (works great!). I'm not sure if upping the dBs for the rears is the answer because there's no voice coming from the rears anyways.

AVR 1602 and DD: voice from the rears?

Not sure if this should go in the receivers forum, but this is a newbie kind o question: The voice/dialogue for 5.1 movies come out only from the front and center speakers on my Denon 1602 (speakers are Energy Connoiseurs, Take5.x and EXCLs), but the soundtrack and sound effects are coming...

    Xover and Subwoofer: basic question

Thank you for the info. Cool, learning new things everyday. Well, for my sub when I connect from the receiver to the XOVER cxn on the sub the dials on the subwoofer are disabled. However, when I connect the RCA to the INPUT cxn on the subwoofer, the dials on the subwoofer are enabled. Right...

    Xover and Subwoofer: basic question

I looked in the primer and found some stuff about crossover, but I still have a newbie-question: On my sub there is a xover connection. When would I use this connection? I can't use it right now with just my Denon 1602, right? Currently my sub is using a RCA subwoofer cable to the subwoofer...

    subwoofer calibration

Internal test tones are supposed to be calibrated to 75dB and test discs (Avia) calibrate to 85dB. Please correct me if I'm wrong anyone :)

    Avia/Vidio esentials...any major differences

VE is out of print (I think). Avia uses 85dB for many of their tests.

    Subwoofers in apartments

I have a similar situation (2nd floor apt of 3 floors). However, I can't place the sub next to the sofa since the coax cable is only ~10ft long. I do have it in the middle of the left wall pointing at the sofa. It's also sitting on my Take2.2 box along with bubble wrap under it. Even with...

Uh, Avia and my sub...what's the deal?

I'm just using a coax from the subwoofer cxn on the 1602 to the xover cxn on the sub. All the speakers are set to small and I didn't make any changes to xover that the sub is connected to. LFE is at default (0db) and as for how the subwoofer sounds...well, it sounds fine to me, just that it...

Uh, Avia and my sub...what's the deal?

Ok, I got Avia today and calibrated the speakers and video. The only major problem I ran into was calibrating the sub (Energy S8.2). Avia says the sub should read 70 when the LF reads 70, right? But whenever the LF is 70, the sub is way out there somewhere. Do I have a setting wrong for my...

My SPL reading results, test tone today...Avia in a few days

Oh yeah, right now I have it calibrated to 80dB...I'll move it to 85dB with Avia...am I doing everything right? How's my driving?

My SPL reading results, test tone today...Avia in a few days

Avia is in the mail somewhere and I got the good 'ol radio shack SPL meter today. Calibrated everything but the sub (waiting for Avia on that one) and here are the numbers: FL: +6dB CNTR: +4dB FR: +6dB SR:+5dB SL:+5db When I hit the test tone button on my receiver I should leave the master...

    Sound And Vision?

Most everyone here recommends the Avia DVD or Video Essentials one. VE seems to be out of print (from amazon)..my Avia DVD is on its way in the mail and I'm getting a SPL meter today as well.

Is my subwoofer supposed to rattle?

Whew, seems like it's a 'feature' for the S8.2 after all. Yeah, I haven't been able to turn up the volume to my desired level this week. I think I put the sub in too optimal of a location :). For the loose 'item' in the sub...after turning the sub around (vey gently) the item stopped moving...

Is my subwoofer supposed to rattle?

Augh, I've been having some problems with the sub: The sub turns itself off after 10 or so minutes when I use my system to watch TV (analog RCAs). This has happened several times already. I know that the sub has an auto on/off feature, but this 'thing' shouldn't be happening. My sub is...

Is my subwoofer supposed to rattle?

I have the Energy S8.2 and if shake it (gently) I hear a marble-type object rattle around in the subwoofer. It operates fine. I was just wondering if this is a potential problem or not.
