Win an Onkyo TX-NR1030 9.2 channel Dolby Atmos AV Receiver

I would love to win the receiver for two main reasons, the first of which is to upgrade to Atmos (duh). Secondly, the TV in my home theater is still a Toshiba CRT-based RPTV, which only supports 1080i, not 1080p. I currently have it attached to my Onkyo receiver with an HDMI - DVI cable...

PS3 delayed until March 2007 in Europe; only 500k units total in US/Japan at launch

No idea. But the fact that they don't makes little difference to me. Most video products I've bought (VCRs, DVD players, etc) didn't come with all the cables needed either.

You can buy HDMI cables for a few dollars at monoprice.com.

    Desperate Housewives ongoing thread

Did anyone else catch what Paul said to Zach at the end of the scene with the potatoes? It sounded like he said something like "you must be glad to be home with mama".

    SCIENTIFIC ATLANTA 8000HD question

Fortunately HDNET Movies, HDNET, and both InHD channels work OK. We have 5 local channels in HD, and two of them don't have any sound through firewire. Again, this could all be different in your area depending on what software and version is being used.

    SCIENTIFIC ATLANTA 8000HD question

Robert, Just a forewarning. There are some glitches, at least with the software my box is running (no sound on some channels through firewire, many SD digitals do not display correctly through firewire). My box is running Passport software from Pioneer. Your area may be using SARA software...

    SCIENTIFIC ATLANTA 8000HD question

This is not true. 5C only prevents you from copying material that is marked "copy never". That would only be Pay-Per-View channels. I've recorded a number of HD movies from HBO and SHO using a JVC30K with a SA 3250HD equipped with firewire.

    Toshiba 50HDX82 Problem with DVDs

I have the same set, and I and many other owners of this set see the same issue, which has become known as the "brushed aluminum" effect. Search the Toshiba forum at HomeTheaterSpot.com for many posts on the subject.

    Brightness setting on Toshiba 50HDX82

I just got a 50HDX82 a week ago, and so far am very happy with the picture quality. However, I'm surprised at how high I need to set the brightness level. I used Avia to adjust the set, and here are the settings I came up with: Contrast 35 Brightness 73 Color 53 Sharpness 30 I did not...

The 48" JVC w/ DVI/HDCP no longer availabe???!!! WTF!!!

I agree that the statement you quoted is not as clear as it could be. I had only seen the press release that I quoted, so that's why I was confused when I started seeing posts stating that the new Sonys lacked HDCP. I will be looking at the new Sonys also, but right now am leaning heavily toward...

The 48" JVC w/ DVI/HDCP no longer availabe???!!! WTF!!!

Keith_JS, please reconcile your statement that the new Sony sets will not have HDCP, with this statement from the Sony Press Release: "Sony Electronics today announced its support of Digital Visual Interface (DVI) with high-bandwidth digital content protection (HDCP) by unveiling 13 new...

    New Toshiba HDtvs

Interesting...in the index of the user manual they have a reference to "DVI connection", pointing to page 8. However, on page 8, there is no mention of DVI.

    New Toshiba HDtvs

John, please let us know what you hear. I'd be interested any any other info you might have as well, such as will native 480p (as opposed to upconvert to 540p) be supported, dimensions, etc. Thanks.

    New Toshiba HDtvs

From what I've been able to gather, the H82 series will be DVI-upgradable, while the DHX82 series will come with a DVI connection. In the latest Home Theater magazine, OneCall.com has an ad for the H82's (stating that they are indeed DVI-upgradable), which leads me to believe that they will be...

I talked to Samsung customer service today, and the DLP RPTV's are supposed to be out in late June or July. There is some information about these sets on the Samsung web site (www.samsungusa.com). The 50" model number is HLM507W.
