New Kef Reference Speakers - I died and went to heaven

Chu Gai, It looked like plastic, it felt like plastic and from what I could tell it was definately plastic. Basically I would expect better build quality on a pair of £9grand speakers.

Which Receiver as Pre Pro? HK 520, Denon 3802, Onkyo 797, Marantz 7200?

The Marantz SR-7200 does actually decode EX and ES.

New Kef Reference Speakers - I died and went to heaven

The 205's I heard and are still in the window of my local store are also in the dark finish, however I think it is still plastic, just black plastic that doesnt stand out. The part that gets me about the 207's is the drive unit that is housed in the circular bit that is stuck on top, which...

New Kef Reference Speakers - I died and went to heaven

Martice, Plastic doesnt have anything to do with the sound of the speaker aslong as you say its not affecting the sonics of it. Just personally if I spent £9grand on a pair of speakers I would obviously want them to sound that amount but also at least look like they where worth the money. I...

New Kef Reference Speakers - I died and went to heaven

I wasnt saying choose speakers on the basis of looks and not sound I would never advise anyone to do that, but the sound of the 207's and also the 205's I heard didnt seem anything special to me. The 205's I saw where in the darker finish and it did not look like plastic on them but on the 207's...

New Kef Reference Speakers - I died and went to heaven

B&W's 805's are only a 2-way design but the KEF 201's are a 4 way design which I believe would explain the higher price for the KEF's. The KEF 207's are cheaper than B&W's 801 and 800's but if you want a set of speakers that are adorned in plastic then go with the KEF's, also the 207's sound...

New Kef Reference Speakers - I died and went to heaven

KEF may have been around longer than B&W but the Nautilus line has been around longer than KEF's new reference range, and they do look way too similar, but as someone said the KEF's build quality does not come close to that of the B&W's, the B&W's are more money but certainly seem to be worth it.

    Leaking Speakers! Help Needed.

After recently purchasing some Mission 782's I set them up in the front room and had been using them with the grilles on. The other day for the first after listening for 30mins or so I decided to remove the grilles, to my surprise on one the of the speakers mid range drivers their was a...

First Post - Looking for a receiver

For the B&W's that you have got I found that Marantz works best with them over Denon, not by much but if you are wanting to use your system for music aswell the Marantz would be the better bet, try auditioning a 6200/7200 depending on your budget and also try out the Denon's as they are great...

New Kef Reference Speakers - I died and went to heaven

So far I have heard the 205's and the 207's running in a 2-channel format at my local hi-end store, both times they where running off about £10grands worth of Chord equipment, and for the money I wasnt overly impressed, might have been the electronics. Also the 207's I saw where in the beech...

    Marantz 7200????????

The 7200 is a great receiver for B&W speakers and a Home cinema system that you like to listen to music to aswell, although you may wish to wait for the 7300 which is imminent for release, although their should be some great bargains on the 7200 coming up.

B&W owners or anyone that has auditioned them...

I borrowed a Yamaha DSP AX620 before I went with Marantz, I think that the 620 was rated at 90watts however it always cut out at -20db on the volume when running my B&W's, I never found the source of the problem.

B&W owners or anyone that has auditioned them...

Compared to the remote that came with the 4200 the 7200's version is much, much better. Only thing I would complain about is that it does not have a backlit display which would have been handy for watching movies.

B&W owners or anyone that has auditioned them...

Hi, I use all B&W's from the DM range some are the S3 versions, I used to run them all off a Marantz SR-4200 which was o.k but I couldnt afford anymore at the time, I did however test the 4200 side by side with a Denon 1802 and the Marantz definately sounded better, especially with music which...

    B&W Decisions

I did like the 1Nt's alot as bookshelfs and I know the 7's use the same mid but they also have the bass unit which didnt do a great deal for me, I am not denying they do have a better mid, but with the electronics that I tested them with their was not much difference as unfortunately I did not...

    Bipole a viable option?

Hello, I had a similar problem when I had to move my H/T to a new room and lost the space behind me that I previously had. My only option was wall mounting rears behind me, I went for di-poles and they are definately much better than the bookshelfs I was using before. Di-poles supposedly work...

    B&W Decisions

rodneyH, Yes I am serious, I just didnt like the 9nt's or the 7nt's for that matter. The 1nt's I did like but I needed floorstanders and I found the 605's to suit my music taste better and also better for Home Cinema, plus I saved some money in the process. Different people have different...

    B&W Decisions

I almost went for the 9nt's at the beginning of the year, however they did not suit my music taste and I ended up going for th 605 S2's. You did not say your music taste or whether you would be using the speakers for H/T, but if you are and with your current amplification I would go with the...

    Mission 782's Anyone Own Them??

I have the turntable running through the CD, bascially it says in the instructions to connect it to any input that doesnt have a phono stage. The amps that What Hi-Fi recommend are more than what im willing to spend on one, they recommend amps that are £700-£1000 and I dont want to spend...

    New B&W 602s3 and LCR-60 thoughts

None at all, I find its a great little speaker and isnt over powered by the 605's, they all match up very well. The 600 was a bit too big for my tastes aswell, I might have possible gone for it if I had a bigger room with a listening position further away.

    New B&W 602s3 and LCR-60 thoughts

NickC, I run the LCR60-3 as centre, DM605 S2's as mains, 601 S3's as rears, DS6's as extended surround, REL Q150E as a sub, all this is ran off a Marantz SR-7200 to great effect.

    New B&W 602s3 and LCR-60 thoughts

As the 600 was meant to be partnered with the 603/604 they both use more than one main woofer, 2 on the 603 and 3 on the 604 compared to the 602's single woofer which the 60 in theory should be the better match for, as someone said above I think their would be a chance of having a too powefull...

    Mission 782's Anyone Own Them??

Hello, Thanks for the reply, the Denon sounds o.k with the 782's but I use a Marantz SR-7200 with my home cinema system and the 782's sound much better on that than the Denon. I have read What Hi-Fi's review about the 782's and for their size they do go loud and kick out a commendable amount...

    Mission 782's Anyone Own Them??

Hello, I have just taken delivery of a pair of Mission 782's which I want to be part of a 2-channel analog system, my turntable is the Project Debut phono and the only spare amp I have in the house is a Denon AVR-1802, I naturally want a 2-channel amp and was wondering if anyone could recommend...

Considering B&W 601's - Have a few questions for you guys

I use the 601's as rears and tried bi-wiring them but could not tell any difference as rears, however when I swapped my system around and had the 601's as mains bi-wiring definately brought more out of the mid and a more controlled low end, it wasnt hugely noticeable with movies but it was...

    New B&W 602s3 and LCR-60 thoughts

A few people on this post said that the LCR60-3 is a bit weak, I use it with the 605 S2's and find it a very well balanced and dont think that the 60 is weak at all, it says on B&W's site that the 600 is designed to match the 603 and 604S3's so I would have thought that the 60 was enough for the...

Wharfedale Speakers (comments and mini review)

I used to use the Wharfedale Pacific range in a second home cinema, comprising the PI-20's, Pi10's and Pi centre, for the money that I purchased them for I was extremely impressed with the sound. The only downfall being the wood veneer finish on them which looked rather tacky at times. The...

    B&W 600 S3 speaker pics

Its a great little speaker, well its actually not that small when compared to the competitions at the same price. Personally I didnt like the CM range very much, or infact the CDM NT range, it had its strengths over the DM range but for my music tastes I prefered the DM's, they are also alot...

    B&W 600 S3 speaker pics

Jason, how do you find the LCR60? I use the same centre just in black, but I have it partnered with the series 2 floorstanders and find that they work great together. I have yet to hear any of the S3 floorstanding models, have you heard any of the S2's and if so how do they compare?
