After trying the PS3, the Panasonic and now the new Pioneer BDP-HD1, I can say that the Pioneer has the best picture quality of those 3. I'm using 1080p24 out. And the Pioneer is also outputting 480i for standards resolution DVDs (to use with an outboard de-interlacer or scaler). I know it...
I'm using a pair of Paradigm Signature Servo in my dedicated room. Spectacular subs. I can't imagine replacing them with anything since I'm so satisfied with those 2.
HDMI 1.1 can pass up to 1080p60, and up to 8 channels of 24/96 audio. Actually, I'm using a HDMI 1.1 pre/pro with the Toshiba HD-DVD player (HD-A1), and I'm passing 1080p60 to my projector (Sony Ruby) AND now passing Dolby TrueHD 5.1 with only one HDMI 1.1 cable. No need to wait for HDMI...
The upscaling of my HD-A1 is good, but nowhere near what my combo Pioneer 79AVi at 480i over HDMI to a Gennum scaler was giving me with standard DVDs. But since I just sold my Pio 79AVi to buy the upcoming Pioneer Elite Blu-Ray player (that will pass 480i over HDMI also for standard DVDs! )...
Gennum VXP, Realta HQV and the new NSC chips are the only one on the market right now able to do proper 3-2 pulldown reversal with 1080i. The Sony Ruby internal video processing (DRC) can also do it. So it's "real" 1080p when using my Gennum VXP chip. :) And since I also have a Sony Ruby, I...
I am looking at 1080p HD-DVDs in my system since 1 month already. My scaler (Gennum VXP) is properly putting 1080i back to 1080p w/o any problems, and my projector is showing "1080p" in the input info tab. :) And since it's a 1080p projector, I'm looking at 1080p for real... :)
Same thing here. Best PQ I have ever seen. HD-A1 with Sony Ruby and Gennum VXP de-interlacing. I would have paid 5000$ for a real HD player less then 1 year ago (but there was none...), considering the quality of my video and audio chain... and they sold it to me for 600$ cdn! Best bargain I...
With 1080i inverse telecine (Gennum VXP, Realta HQV), 1080i is easily put back in 1080p. That's what I'm doing right now with a Sony Ruby and Gennum scaler. And since I was able to try a Blu-Ray pre-production player in 1080p, I was able to compare both "resolutions" and I wasn't able to see...
The Oppo 970H will be pretty good, but the Mediatek is suffering from a couple of CUE problems... So you will need a good scaler to get rid of those... We never win, don't we! BTW, Robert, we are on the same side! I'm enjoying 1080p right now in my dedicated HT room and I'm just sad that...
So Robert. After reading all that, using my Gennum VXP scaler doing true inverse-telecine and per-pixel motion adaptive de-interlacing with a 1080i source is not giving me true 1080p in your book? I don't know, but the HD-A1 paired with my Gennum scaler (de-interlacing 1080i to 1080p)...
HD-DVD player now playing at my place with a Gennum VXP scaler (to de-interlace 1080i) to Sony Ruby VPL-VW100 at 1080p (native resolution). And this paired with an Anthem D2 with HDMI 1.1, and the new audio formats passing through one cable only. This HD-DVD player is well worth the price...
My Anthem D2 is working like a charm with the new Toshiba HD-DVD player. The Gennum VXP is doing true 1080i de-interlacing to 1080p (w/o losing resolution because of vertical interpolations, or downscaling), and also passing the new HD audio formats fully over HDMI 1.1 (since the Toshiba...
New Anthem Statement D2 with a Gennum scaler and HDMI switching. There is no other pre/pro with that kind of video processing at any price. Paired with the Anthem P2 and P5, it's really something.
I sold my Bryston 4BSST and Rotel RMB-1095 to buy the Anthem Statement P2 and P5. 7X325W, 3 power cords, 3X20A dedicated circuits. I never looked back. Build like tanks, heavy (P2 is 75 pounds and P5 is 140 pounds), really low noise floor... Sweet sounding monsters... :D
My vote is for the room acoustics first. :D Then the speakers, and really far far away in my book are the pre/amp and the amp... Some new receivers are really good today, and can easily go head-to-head (and sometimes be better...) then the best pre/pro out there. But I decided to go separate...
Latest news from Anthem... They are now hesitating concerning firewire, and the AVM20/30 could have the scaler... So every D1/AVM20/30 owners interested in the firewire connection should send Anthem an e-mail. But the most interesting part is the chip for the scaler... Probably starting...
I know. But look at the Denon 5910 price... With only half the capabilities, but with the same MSRP, and you can't scale or process anything else then DVDs. The Dragonfly is a scaler, and can process and scale ALL your other sources, like X-Box, Sat, cable, VHS, etc. Do you know anyone...
Marco. You don't need to SDI mod the 59avi! One particularity of this player is that the 59avi (unlike ALL the Denon players) can pass 480i through HDMI, yielding the exact same results has an SDI mod. the Denon players are ALL outputting 480p and up over HDMI/DVI, but not 480i, so those...
Don't forget the huge hardware upgrade that Anthem are planning for June this summer for the AVM30/AVM20 and D1. Anthem hardware and firmware upgrades policy is one of the best in the industry. The proof? Some AVM20 users are still using it after more then 3 years, and it will be updated...
RobertS. Thank you for the kind words. And btw, I did build up my system just like you, w/o making a loan, and by taking small steps at a time. Can you imagine I did start with 6 computer speakers 8 years ago, with a 300$ receiver. And then I got 6 Atoms+ PDR10, then Mini-Monitors all...
RobertS. I'm really happy with my Signature Servo. Awesome sub. I was using a Servo-15 v1 before the Sig. :emoji_thumbsup: But if you are concerned about the price of the Servo-15 v2, why not just try to find a used Servo-15 v1 instead? They are easy to find, and the price will be really...
I was able to compare a full Reference set-up: Studio-100, CC-570, 1 pair of Studio-40 and Studio20, Servo-15 to a full Signature set-up: S8, C5, 2 pairs of S2 and Signature Servo. My room is fully treated. I had both set-ups for a full 2 weeks to compare them. And I kept the Signature...
john.michael The Panamax 4400 is rated at 20A. I use it for my amps on a 20A dedicated circuit. And a Panamax 5510 for the rest of the equipment. http://www.panamax.com/products.cfm?...il&id=209&ly=h So if you could run a dedicated 20A line to your rack, you could use the 4440 for...
Latest info from Anthem. I'm sure some AVM20 owners will be really happy to read that! :D "preliminary info: Scheduled for release in spring 2005 (exact timing not known since it's under development), we're currently putting together hardware upgrades for the AVM 20/30 and Statement D1...
If you could find a used Anthem CD-1... Easily found for 600-700$ on Audiogon. Tube player, 5 disk changer. I have one. Really really good! Look here: http://www.anthemav.com/OldSitev1/frames/otherfr.html
I've paid my D1+P5 combo 6000$ US. :D HDMI switching with a scaler doing custom resolutions (!!!), and 2 firewires in and 1 out is coming in the next 2-3 months for the D1 and AVMs. DPLIIx is working fine on my D1. :emoji_thumbsup: Should come out soon to end-users. Anthem will upgrade...
Just to think that I got my Anthem Statement D1 + Anthem Statement P5 (5X325W) for the exact same price... And don't forget that some AVM20 users are still using it after 3 years, and are good to go for another 3-4 years with the hardware upgrades path of Anthem. But poeple owning the...
