I have some friends who are going to separated for a few months. I know they are going to miss each other terribly and I was hoping that you could recommend a romantic movie where a couple is separated and are happily rejoined in the end. My hope is that it will bring them some comfort during...
If you're both movie lovers, Cinema Paradiso. If you're want something more classic, Casablanca. Or recently released: Finding Nemo & Bend It Like Beckham.
Robert, I just watched my copy of the new transfer yesterday. The improvement to the picture blew me away. I was absolutely elated to see my favorite movie of all times look that good. Thanks for all the work that you put into making this transfer what it is. In my opinion it really paid off...
Nathan, You will definitely get the "best" sound with another 170. However, all of the speakers need not match in order to enjoy rear channel material. I used mismatched rear surrounds while waiting for a replacement for a speaker that was DOA from the factory. Though not perfect, it enhanced...
I am considering upgrading to one of these and wanted to get some input from people who have used one. Is there anything you particularly like/dislike about the unit? Also have you had any software compatibility problems? Thanks in advance for your responses.
First off, thanks for your responses.
I finally got around to exchanging the DVD for a new one and the new one did the same thing. So, I took it over to a friends house and it plays fine on his player. Looks like my player is the problem. Hmmm.... Maybe this is the excuse that I need to...
I received the 2 cd's & dvd combo as a gift. The 2 CD's play fine. However, the DVD plays a short "logo video" for Warner Reprise Video and then hangs as it tries to load the menu. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? BTW my DVD player is a Philips 751.
So I just finished watching "Vertigo" for the first time and first thing that popped into my head when I started to think about the move was: Basically every episode of Scooby-Doo was a cheap ripoff of the plot of Vertigo. You know, the antagonist makes up some "ghost story", gives enough...
This film was recently recommended to me. I just wanted to get a few opinions on whether this DVD was worth a purchase outright or I should rent it first. Thanks in advance.
I have to totally agree with Neil that this should have been a seamless branching DVD. I also agree with Chad that the original cut heightened the suspense of the film. In fact, that's why its always been on my personal top 10 list. It was the first movie that I ever walked out of the theater...
I've known people who were completely bored by all of these films that I love:
Amadeus
Citizen Kane
Empire of the Sun
Lawrence of Arabia
Shadow of the Vampire
But hey, I guess there are enough of us out there that enjoy them that they keep being made.:)
Earl,
Thanks for the info.
Here's a qoute from Dolby's "A Listeners Guide to Dolby Digital EX" which you can find here It says pretty much the same thing.
I'd like to second Super Speedway. The quality of both the audio and video are terrific. It's so enveloping that I actually got a little scared at times (those walls are coming at you pretty quick wheny you're going 200mph). What a ride! :D

My understanding of how the surround back modes work is a little different: “Matrix” pulls out the s.b. channel information “matrix encoded” on the L/R surround channels for formats such as DD/THX EX and DTS-ES Matrix.
“Non-Matrix” is for sources that don’t have any surround back info i.e...
