There are quite a number of designs as well as complete kits that can be found online. Try a search on this site as well as diyaudio.com and other sites. If you provide more information as to what you are going to use the speakers for (mainly home theater vs music etc.)and an approximate...
Ryan You may find diyaudio.com a good source of information with many knowledgeable and helpful people. I have very limited knowledge and it always amazes me how helpful people are on this site as well as other sites. Thanks to everyone who shares their wisdom here and on other boards
As ThomasW posted, what kind of SPL are you looking for ? Will you use a sub ? What kind of music do you listen to ? The more info you can provide, the better the answers will be.
http://www.acoustic-visions.com/~aco...le_index.shtml Take a look at the above link and give Kyle a call. The Tumult is known to be one of the very best drivers on the market.
minhG Dan gave a suggestion for a small Tumult alignment. 2.5 cu ft sealed. It works great. Charlie C If you don't have the time, tools or experience to build a box. Give Kyle at Acoustic-Visions.com a shout. He does some great work and can provide you with a box and good advice.
JimV What kind of music do you listen to mostly and at what levels ? What kind of budget do you have ? Can you tolerate a large sub or does it have to be on the small size ? The more info you can provide, the more useful information you will receive. Another good place for you to get good...
Andrew, Can you tell us a little bit more about these Teflon Sliders ? I have a double walled Tumult sub that weighs a ton and is hard to move around. I assume they are just Teflon coated and you stick them on to the bottom of the sub ? Where can you get them ? Thanks
Perry If you really want to get the most bang for your buck, read the DIY forum for awhile. There are alot of individuals that have built their own subs. If you have access to some woodworking tools you can build a sub that will be every bit as good as those mentioned for much less money. If...
Yeah, Kyle is certainly good on his word. I have a version of his Kilimanjaro sub that he recommended to me before he came out with his Tumult based subs. He supplied me with the Tumult, HS500 amp, enclosure and grill. All I had to do was finish the enclosure ( I laminated it in black formica...
Blue Jeans Cable is a great way to go. I am using one of their 40 foot cables from my B&K AVR307 to my Tumult Sub. Works perfect and their prices are reasonable. :)
Your choice of going vented vs sealed will depend on what your needs are. How much will you use the sub for Music vs Home Theater ? How large is your room ? What types of music do you listen to ? The more information that you can provide will allow people to steer you in the right direction...
As Greg states " Once you get started it is hard to stop." Jeff, you are getting some excellent advice here from from some very knowedgeable people. You will not be disapointed if you build the Shiva. If you don't have the tools or woodworking skills, check out Kyle's website and contact...
Chris, Thanks for taking the time to write about these speakers. I have been seriously thinking about purchasing a pair of these for my daughter. I have an older 120 watt per channel amp and preamp that she could use with them. They would be used to listen mostly to pop music in her bedroom...
Great information here everyone. I only have one sub (its a forward firing sealed Tumult) and it is corner loaded. The question that I have is, does it matter which way I position the driver to fire ? At present, it fires out away from the wall. Is there any benefit (more spl ?) to having it...
I don't know anything about those speakers, however you can look at how efficient they are to see how well they will work with your present receiver. Also, check out the following link for a great deal on the Mirage speakers. I saw it this morning and I believe they are $249 including shipping...
The chrome plated hex wrenches are just a free gift thrown in from Adire for having to wait along time for your Tumult.:) By the way, Kyle, I love the looks of that Everest. I'm sure it sounds even better than it looks.:emoji_thumbsup:
Just curious if anyone can give me an opinion on these speakers. Apparently they have been discontinued and they are clearing them out. I have been looking for a relatively inexpensive pair of speakers to give to my daughter to use for music. They are fairly high efficiency at 90db and have...
Joe, I have a B&K AVR305 and it is my understanding that you have to do this either through the menu system or the PC software if that is what you are using for setup. Therefore, if you want to change it on the fly. Go into the menus system and adjust it accordingly.
What does your present system consist of and what do you like or dislike about the sound of it?Forget what it looks like. Do you plan on running a sub ?
Studio 100's, CC and ADP's. B&K AVR 305 receiver, 150 watts per channel (a great receiver by the way), DIY Tumult sealed sub with 720 watts. I originally chose this to get into home theater, but I find that I use it more for music than HT. This setup works incredible for HT, but I find myself...
Mine is in 2.5 cu ft sealed with the HS500 amp since mid-March when I received it. Unfortunately, I have not had a lot of time to use it. I will be moving in a couple of months (going through a divorce) so I have not bothered to spend much time with setup and calibration. So far it has added...
Bob If the size of the sub doesn't matter, you can build a ported Tempest that will outperform the SVS. :) Kyle Richardson can give you some great advice, I have purchased a sub from him and he knows what he is doing.
Geno I can attest to the sound quality of the B&K. I have the B&K AVR305. In stereo direct it is wonderful. However, in stereo direct it bypasses any processing and you cannot use your subwoofer. The bass management features otherwise are very good which will allow a variable crossover...
Paul, Call Kyle at Acoustic-Visions.com. For your budget, you can get more bang for your buck than the three choices that you have listed. If you don't have the tools to do a DIY sub, he can sell you a complete kit that you can put together. Tell him what your goals are, he won't steer you wrong.
Tony, When you mount the Tumults in that 18PR enclosure and fire it up, everyone west of the Rockies should be able to hear it. Everyone will think that it was another California earthquake. Of course those of us East of the Rockies won't be able to hear it. You need to go back to the...
Trey, Here are my thoughts. I have Studio 100's,CC and ADP's and was looking to add a sub. After researching the options, I went with a Tumult based sub from Acoustic-Visions.com. Kyle is a great guy to work with and does fantastic work. He can match the veneer on the Paradigms so that you...
Ryan and James, I can recommend that you talk to Kyle at Acoustic-Visons.com. He can help you a great deal with A DIY sub. Depending on how much skill you have, access to tools etc. , he can do as much or as little as you want. He was a tremendous help to me when I was looking for a sub to...
Karl, That is a beautiful sub. Your woodworking skills really show. As for you thinking that you perhaps should of built the smaller Shiva, don't worry. Before long you may wish that you built something even bigger and more powerful. It seems that everyone wants even more bass and they...
