There's also Ayn Rand: A Sense of Life, a documentary on her life, which is available in a rather nice two-disc SE. (Some opinions on this release from her die-hard fans, of which I count myself one, are available here.) As for a movie ever getting made of Atlas Shrugged, there was talk a...
Seriously, is there really anyone who doesn't know that the movie is going to start at least 10 minutes, usually more like 20, after the scheduled show time? Even those that haven't been to a movie in 20 years and don't know, it takes them one trip to figure it out. Personally, I almost never...
Best Buy (or whichever retailer gets the exclusive) pays the studio for a couple of meager extras. The studio accepts this on the basis that it will bring them more money than the few marginal sales those extras would generate if they were put on the disc. That retailer then uses those extras...
A really good credit sequence can set the mood for a movie. Bond wouldn't be Bond without one. Most credit sequences a pretty boring though, so I don't consider it any great loss if a director chooses to forego the opening credit sequence. I haven't seen Braveheart or Gladiator listed here...
I blind buy quite frequently, and I'm generally pleased with the result. I've seen a lot of films this way that I never would have otherwise. Starting with the most recent: Comedian Major League Clerks - *** The Sum of All Fears Catch Me If You Can Spider-Man Fiddler on the Roof...

Okay, here's my view of this subject, once and for all. Some of it's been said here already, even repeatedly. Fact 1: The "average" movie-goer has rather pedestrian tastes in movies. They're not looking for anything that's going to "push the envelope" or make them think; they're looking to be...
Are you sure the program actually freezes? Processing the newly downloaded data often takes several minutes, during which the program will be unresponsive.
Since this seems to be turning into a poll on whether or not Lafayette, Indiana has the worst theaters anywhere, I'll throw in another vote to say that they do. I've never been to a Goodrich theater when there wasn't some sort of problem like those described by MattThiel. "I want my money back,"...
I was watching Unbreakable just the other evening and noted the very solid performance turned in by Spencer Treat Clark in that film. It occurred to me that Shyamalan got at least solid performances out of young actors in Signs and of course The Sixth Sense, in which Haley Joel Osment gave a...
For the record, I attempted to watch ACS on my widescreen TV last week with the picture zoomed in an effort to recreate its OAR. Most of it looked just fine, framing-wise, but several shots looked very cramped. I'm not convinced that this is 100% open-matte. Maybe some boom mikes had to be P&Sed...
The Creative PC-DVD Encore kit was also my first way back in the summer of '98. It's still what I use on my PC, though the drive is a little flaky sometimes and the software is not exactly God's gift to HTPCs. Still, it's good enough. Didn't get an actual standalone player until last spring.
I...
Here's one more report of a very noticeable pause at the point everyone's talking about. Two consecutive pauses actually. My player is a Magnavox DVD-611. I believe it's manufactured by Philips, and I've only seen one other mention in this thread of a Philips player having this problem. I've...
Uh... Back to the Future, no doubt. I'm glad the choice wasn't between SW, IJ, LOTR and The Godfather. That would have been really tough. Okay, so the third one was an average movie, but you can pry the other two from my cold dead fingers.
The Matrix stands on its own without any further story necessary. Fellowship, while a good movie is quite obviously just the beginning and isn't complete in and of itself with out the other two. LOTR. But thank goodness I don't really have to make that choice.
Not much to add here really, but I'll summarize/reiterate/reinforce a few key points:
1) The dual-release format/schedule was advertised by New Line loud and clear from the very start. Anyone who isn't familiar with their existence and the differences between them has not taken the time nor...
I thought I read somewhere that Best Buy had threatened to stop carrying titles from any studio that went to a "rental window" model. Am I just imagining things, or does anyone else remember this too?
