Right you are. According to this news story: http://www.videopremiereawards.com/H...Theatrical.htm ...the BBC acquired the rights to A Room With a View from Goldcrest Films.
A couple of points: 1) Channel 4 is not a commercial television station, although it is funded by commercial revenues. It is a public corporation created by government statute, much like the BBC, but specifically created to be a source of public service broadcasting distinct from the BBC. It...
I wouldn't be surprised if sales numbers were sub-optimal for the first season of SFU on DVD. I hope HBO isn't using poor sales numbers for season 1 to justify scraping releases of future seasons, as their decision to release SFU at the same price point as The Sopranos is clearly to blame for...
Don't worry. I am. :) I would trust info from the marketing site run by the distributor long before I'd trust any of those e-tailers. I've never been steered wrong by video.com when it comes to specs for BVHE DVD releases.
According to BV's own video.com Ridicule is 2.35:1 Anamorphic. http://video.movies.go.com/products/3307503.html Lovers on the Bridge and Unzipped are also OAR.
My current 20 favorites (across all genres): Citizen Kane (1941) Casablanca (1942) American Beauty (1999) All About Eve (1950) Once Were Warriors (1994) Schindler's List (1993) Three Colours: Red (1994) The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964) Dances with Wolves (1990) GoodFellas (1990)...
Kevin, Beware. I ordered the so-called 1.85/1.33 version from Amazon.ca, but when it arrived it was the 1.33-only version. It turns out that no 1.85 version exists for sale in Canada. Apparently BVHE made this decision without notifying any retailers. Nice.
Is the scheduling of Smallville opposite The West Wing specific to your town/region? I'm just curious, as I know that in the Eastern and Pacific time zones Smallville is on at 8pm and The West Wing is on at 9pm.
Marc, I think you just got unlucky. I received my set today (Canadian release, from Future Shop) and the transfer looks absolutely marvelous. You should return that puppy right away! Andrew
Bump. I think many of us were hoping that BVHE would release O&A season 2 by November (one year after the release of S1), however that is clearly not going to be the case. Can someone with access to BV's press site let us know what month's releases are currently being announced? I assume...
Don't be concerned by it disappearing from the Amazon.ca website. That happens all of the time with imports. If you had your order in before it was removed from the site, then your order will be fulfilled. Amazon.ca only orders a certain number of each import title, and once all of those...
I see many Canadians saying "I'll order this from the U.S.". It should be noted that when the distributor differs between Canada and the U.S., the U.S. versions are almost always available for pre-order as imports from amazon.ca. The prices are usually very close to those of the Canadian...
Perhaps I've just been lucky, but I've only had to return 3 discs as defective out of the 1600+ DVDs that I own. That doesn't mean that I haven't received many discs with small scratches or minor smudging, but they always play just fine and thus are not defective.
Dan, It worked for me, although it took a couple of tries. I had to slide it around in the tray until it "clicked" into place, after which it loaded up fine. Hope this helps. Andrew
An option for Farscape... ADV has commited to 10 discs for Season 3 and we know, based on number of episodes, that Season 4 will be either 10 discs or 11 discs (probably 10). An option would therefore be to re-package it as a series, rather than by season. Much like Ric's TOS work. As a...
It's good to see that so many people actually watch all of the extras. Thankfully, I'm not much of an extras fan myself or I'd never be able to catch up. In fact, I've probably watched less than 5% of the extras on my discs. I watch deleted scenes and I watch commentaries by selected...
118 unwatched out of 1130.
Unfortunately, I continue to acquire much faster than I can watch, so the unwatched percentage is increasing with every passing week... mostly because of those damn TV-on-DVD season sets. :)
Dave,
I get mine from DV-DEPOT (URL below). They provide an excellent service and they seem to have a much better re-stocking program than InetDVD (where I used to buy them).
I just checked and they do have some of the 7-disc cases in stock.

Oops. Thanks Gord. Turns out I'm an idiot. I don't watch much TV through the device that receives WPIX/KTLA/etc. and I forgot that I had been playing around with custom zoom/stretch modes on my widescreen set several months back. Apparently I was creating my own 1.78:1 frame baring absolutely...
