chris,
I dont know much about either RePlay or TiVo, but here's the break down of the last time I did research.
RePlay
1) Cost more $ upfront ~$400
2) No monthy fees
3) Less user friendly Menus but still functional
TiVo
1) Cost less $ upfront ~$200
2) ~$10 monthly fee
3)...
Johnny,
Not that I dont trust you but.... There's no mention of "16:9 squeeze" any where for the Pannys. There is a 16:9 display mode that will compress the image to a 16:9 format, but that would compress the blackgrey bars also and the viewed picture would be short and fat. The Panny's...
Eric,
I dont beleive that the Panny's do the 16:9 "squeeze". It can display 16:9 but not squeeze it.. I have the 51HX41 and I love it... I wouldnt buy a 16:9 set so this was perfect. The built-in line doubler is great for NTSC broadcast, but you really need a progressive scan DVD player...
Frank,
You can always do a back test and remove the vibrapods the replace the cables back to the homedepot ones... do one at at time or both... it's all for the love of this hobby...
If you take out the line doubler on a 4:3 HDTV ready TV and watch a NTSC broadcast, will the picture look any better than if you watched it on a same size NTSC 4:3 set?
I am not planing to buy the decoder anytime soon. so i was wondering if I would get a better NTSC picture on an HDTV ready...
OK...OK...
You guys convinced me... I am going to replace the last 3 feet on all my 18 guage speaker wires with 12 guage. I am totally convinced that the sound from the 17 feet of 18 guage wire will magically change (get better) once I introduce the last 3 feet with 12 guage. Does any one...
In the case of Power Cords... Everyone can be right! but only in certain circumstances...
Examples:
1) Has anyone tried to jump start a car using really cheep and thin jumper cables? "One time... in Band Camp" my battery went dead and I bought a cheep pair of cables at the nearest gas...
Joy,
The question about Receiver or Separates can not be answered until you ask, "How much money do you have to spend". In your case you said $3500.. So the answer is a definite...SEPARATES!
With Receivers and Pre-Amps, the Technology or sound formats change every 6 months to 1 year. The...
Allen,
Most of the HDTV sets are really good.. it really depends upon what type of picture you are looking for.
Sony has a very "soft" picture. it's kinda like looking at a glamore shots photo. Wrinkles on faces are smoothed out and every thing seems to glow or blur. The picture is very...
Hypo-Pathetically speaking.. both a digital coax and fiber optic cable sends the same signal so they should sound the same.. but what I have noticed is that this is not always the case... A true fiber optic cable is made with glass. a 6 feet cable should be able to bend a few inches. The...

Philip,
Glad to hear that you tried the test! Now you know how I feel... When I knew which cable was being used, I swear that I could hear more detail in the Vocals (I tried Celion Dion and Tony Braxton). But when I tried the Blind test, I said "SAME" every time! I even went as far as...
Kiet,
I agree with that.. but dont forget we are testing a "Reference Cable" with $1.. If we were testing something much closer, then it would really be a must!
Andrew,
Low blow.. man.. you didnt have to bring up BOSE :b
You're right.. let's get back to the basics.. I do beleive that pre & amp is the better choice, that would would give the clearest sound difference. The reciever part was just to remove varibles, but if we use the "Reference...
Andrew,
What does scientific mean?? to me it mean ruling out every varible possible and testing for just 1 thing.
and YES they do test out medication on Ill and healthy patients.
Why test on a receiver also? because that would simulate a real world situation. here's a quote from you in...
Good Luck Lee.. I really hope you find a difference!!! Dont forget to post your results.. all equipment, CD and song choice, how the test was administered and your thoughts about "such a big difference" and "was the upgrade worth the $". Just for fun, try it with a reciever and see if there is...
Charles,
I knew that this debate would come up.. But I was hoping for the most scientific test I could come up with. I wanted to remove as many varibles as possible. Now we are going to have a debate about those test results... "Which Cable are we really listening to? the one from the CD to...
No problem here.. But if the results are not satisfactory to the Believer's then dont run and complain that it was because they used "Reference Cable" from the pre-amp to amp.
I was just trying to eliminate any varibles... If you use only 1 set of cables at a time there can be no debate on...
OK.. let's use a Pre-amp & amp combo.. and we will swap all the cables at once.. it takes 30 seconds to do that, while the listener is blindfolded and listening to all this racket! then you play song again.. is that fair to the lisener?? NO!!
OK.. let's use a Pre-amp & amp combo.. and...
the problem is time delay.. if you have to wait more than a few seconds between switching cables.. how are you supposed to remember what the previous cable sounded like???
Plus if you introduce a second set of cables to connect your pre-amp to amp, which set would you use?? the "Reference" or...
That's GREAT!!! Just test the Audio Interconnects... All other varibles must remain constant.. I dont know if Lee will agree, but you have to use a Receiver because a Pre-amp & amp combo require more Inter-connects to connect them.
A another good reason to use a Receiver is because the...
I used to be a Believer...
I used to make those "such a big difference" claims...
I jumpped right into a blind test with full confidence...
Where am I now???
Blaming my "Non-Golden Ears" and waiting for someone to take the TEST and restore my confidence in Audio Inter-connects...
AjayM,
if that's the case then you dont need a amp at all.. just spice your interconnect and connect them straight to your speakers.. the signal should be about 4 watts.. so you should get more than 90dbs.
AjayM,
Here's another analogy.
you hold in your hand a 15lb bowling ball (speaker wire).
you put it down and hold a 16lb bowing ball (speaker wire).
can you tell the difference?? YES!!!
you hold 100 grains of sugar (interconnect)..
you put it down and hold 90 grains of sugar...
