I am connecting a Denon AVR-4806 using the HDMI output into a Mits HC-900 with an HDMI to DVI converter. The picture, whether I am looking at a DVD menu or a blank screen with just the Denon onscreen menu, looks great, as far as the left two-thirds are concerned, but the right third of the...
I don't know if this is the appropriate forum for this question, but it can't hurt to try. I am connecting a Denon AVR-4806 using the HDMI output into a Mits HC-900 with an HDMI to DVI converter. The picture, whether I am looking at a DVD menu or a blank screen with just the Denon onscreen...
Of course the BIG bummer about wireless speakers is that practically none of them are TOTALLY wireless. They still need to be plugged into an outlet. Some have rechargeable batteries, but who wants to mess with that? "Hold on guys, I'll pop the speakers off the charger and we'll watch a...
I have a Sony STR-DA777ES and a few pro-audio EQs by Alesis. Can I utilize the 6 channel pre-outs and the 6 channel inputs on my receiver as sort of a 6-channel eq loop so I can use the equalizers without having to use an outboard 5 channel amplifier? Any possibilities? If not, why aren't higher...
Supposedly they are virtually identical except for front panel buttons. I am hoping somebody has access to both of them for comparison, or has means of finding out if it is true.
The only time I record from the DVD player is when I record a normal CD. The problem is that when I tell the minidisc player to let the digital bitstream pass through it for decoding and playback in my receiver (for watching movies), I get nothing. I was able to do it with the Toshiba, but now...
One thing I can tell you for sure, Rob, if "high end" cables even make any difference in the first place, low end cables aren't so bad as to cause reoccuring problems as noticable as a flickering line like that. It's obviously some kind of manufacturer defect.
I used to work at Good Guys and I was in there today to buy an inexpensive DVD player, so I bought the Sharp DV-S2 with the DCDi, and as I was leaving a friend of mine who worked there when I did nudged me and said that some guys from a GG store in another state had opened up the Sharp and that...
Actually, I don't think there is a problem with the connection, and I should have mentioned this, because I am stilll able to play normal CDs on the DVD player through the minidisk pplayer and into the receiver, so I don't think that is the problem. It almost seems like the minidisk player gets...
I used to have an "old" second generation Toshiba DVD player with the digital coax running through my Sony MDS-JB940, so I could record onto minidisk from the DVD player, or let the signal pass through to my Sony ES STR-DA777ES receiver for surround processing, through another digital coax cable...
Wow, that is so good to hear. I have been fussing over it so much that I was beginning to lose hope. Does anybody out there have Spies Like Us on DVD who can listen to the chapter marked "Creative Cheating"? It is SOOOOOO obvious on that part I can't beleive they would even release the movie...
I read a review once recently ( I think it was a review of the Rega Planet) where the author stated that the TEAC VRDS-9 is still the best moderately priced transport he has heard. I can't find the thing anywhere. Anyone know anything about this one?? Also, what is it about a DVD player that...
Actually, a friend of mine has what I beleive was the first Denon multi-disk DVD player (first or second) that was I think about 1200$ when new. Could I trust that would be a better transport, or should I really check out a single disk unit instead?
Keith, thanks for the input. I think what would work best for me is to find a really high quality transport somewhere that I can test out in my system and see if it performs better than my Toshiba. Can you think of any specific models that would be especially good to try? I would like to use the...
And what about vibration? I once read that it is really important to do all these "vibration dampening" things to your transport to get the best performance... is that really necessary?
i am using the Coaxial digital output of my second-generation Toshiba DVD player as a transport both to make recordings on my Sony MDS-JB940 Minidisk player and to feed the DA's in my STR-DA777ES. Which got me to thinking, I am putting all this trust into my Toshiba transport to do these...
I would recommend finding The Absolute Sound's recent review of that peice, it might make you second guess that. I will give you a few quotes from the article, some of which comes from his comparisons of the Pioneer with it's "main competitor", the SONY DVP-S9000ES: "On everything I played...
I don't know from first hand experience, but at that price I wouldn't think there would really be a difference. But I would also probably get the panasonic because their lower-end stuff seems to be built better than Toshiba's.
Hmmmm, I am just now thinking of some other things I might try. i might actually do a full reset on the entire system and see if it is some kind of crossover deal or something within the receiver. This receiver does so many things that I might have done somethuing a long time ago that caused...
Although I tend to beleive that as long as you get one of these many excellent CD players mentioned thus far, you will be happy with it, assuming you don't have another cd player to do straight A/B comparisons with, (It can be amazing how much our attitude about our equipment changes once we...
Why does everybody keep bringing up PC CD-recorders? I beleive the original question was concerning mini disk, which is much different because you don' really have the software options you would with a PC
Some other things I have been advised to do that I have just done to no avail:
1. Do not allow any components to share inputs if one is optical and one is coax
2. make sure all digital inputs are properly assaigned in the receiver's setup menu
I am now going to mess with my ac connections...
Whoa, what is this firmware stuff? Are you telling me I can do a software upgrade on my receiver? Whether it fixes the problem or not, I would be all over that. What do I have to do?
As for the original topic, I will check whether it happens regargless of volume level right now.....
Yes...
Ok, I will do that. I actually thought of that but it seemed hard to beleive that so many movies did it. I'll try to think of a few right now and you can check any that you might have: Jurassic Park: I don't remember the exact words but when they are about to get into the Jeeps the young girl...
Assuming that your cables are coming from the 6 & 7 channel outputs on your onkyo, I would probably hook them to your front left and right inputs on your sony's 5.1 input section on the back. This would probably be the most problem free way of doing it. Adjust the volume level of the sony...
