Your aggravation is just the sort of thing that many of us have been expecting consumers to express (and I suspect part of the reason for RAF's eloquent comments here - which as a contented owner of an Outlaw Model 990 I find myself agreeing with). I do not expect firmware updates to be able to...
Outlaw has opened a waiting list for it and hopes to start shipping them out by mid to late May (they left the factory a few weeks ago). The price is $1099.
Atlantic Technology is a speaker manufacturer, and Peter Tribeman is a senior figure there (president and CEO, according to their website). Peter is also a higher-up in Outlaw, although the two companies are otherwise unrelated as far as I know. Atlantic Technology did venture into electronics...
My budget seems to match Carlo's -- I would certainly not turn the Denon 2200 down, but my budget can't really handly the $600. $400 for an S1500 is within my reach, which is why I've been watching for news about it. My local Yamaha dealer was expecting the first shipment in June, and I'm on the...
What receiver were you using? There are a number of receivers with proprietary EX decoding that had problems with an EX flag included on Jurassic Park III, Pearl Harbor, and Atlantis. Chamber of Secrets uses the same flag (or at least a similar one).
As for the original question -- separates offers a couple of benefits: better isolates the amplification from the signal processing and switching (with potential benefits in sound quality), and if you choose to invest in good amps you can likely use them for a good long while, replacing only the...
As of December 17, Outlaw's been shipping a revised design that has eliminated the hiss issue on the last problem cases (typically users of very high efficiency speakers like Klipsh horns). It would appear that the hiss is dead. As for what people use with them, I'm using a 950/750 combo with...
Having used both Bose (Acoustimass 7 and Model 100's) and Paradigm (Reference Studio/60's, Studio/CC, and Studio/ADP's), I will concur with Michael_V -- Bose doesn't even belong on the list. I'm not sure which it's more unfair to: Paradigm for placed in the company of Bose, or Bose for being...
Outlaw indicated at the time of the original drop-out bug that the small number of units returned then would be kept for testing and not re-sold. I would think that the additional returns since then will end up for sale as B-stock. Returned units can be sold as B-stock (either refurbished if...
The Panasonic DVD-RA60 (which is not listed on Panasonic's site, but last I checked was still available on Best Buy's site) retails for at or under $200 -- it supports DVD-Audio, and is not progressive scan. I've been very pleased with mine.
I'm using a Panamax MAX5100 as power conditioner and to turn on my amps (two high-current outlets for amps) and some other odds and ends (CD player, etc.). It uses the trigger signal from a receiver or pre/pro. I found it online for a little over $200 earlier this year.
I don't think he's so much worried about the cost as he is curious about what options he has. So far he hasn't found any, but we were both wondering if there were any viable alternatives to the ML centers.
A buddy of mine recently upgraded to a pair of Martin Logan Aeons as mains, and is trying to plan out future upgrades. He's a bit stumped on what center channels might work well with his Aeons. Are there any alternatives to a Martin Logan center that will match up well with ML mains?
You're pretty much right about the 770 vs. 755, David, although somewhat reversed -- the 770 was designed first, and they just yanked two channels out to make the 755. The 755 was basically an afterthought -- reportedly Outlaw was very pleased with their 770 samples, and decided to use the new...

The auto-detect / lock setting is stored discretely for each input, I believe. I have my CD player's input locked, and the DVD input seems to still stay on auto-detect.

I wasn't sure, and couldn't remember what the form said. I'd forgotten that the other option was listed as "3-day." Glad to hear that you're getting things taken care of.

This may not help you any, but at Outlaw's request I shipped my old 950 back via UPS ground last week (which is what I thought they were using for the non-overnight deliveries). UPS Ground does not guarantee 3-day delivery, although I've gotten stuff in only a day or two if the...
You are thinking of the 62 and 82, I think. The 62 will replace the 56. The 82 will have DVD-Audio, but is not intended as a replacement for the 91. From what I've heard, they haven't announced any replacement for the 91 -- it's being kept around for an extra year, as JohnnyG said.
For what it's worth (maybe not much), I'd say go ahead and get a player now. I haven't heard of anybody trying to include a Dolby EX or DTS-ES decoder in a player.

Having never heard the Denon 3801, I can't say for sure how much benefit the upgrade to the 950 would provide. It is worth noting that RAF (who's been using a 950 for a couple of months now) previously used a Denon 5700 as pre-amp and was extremely impressed with the 950's sound. I'll...
I know, and it's a very valid question. I'm just passing along a bit of newer information (I don't think the FAQ's been updated in a while) that might help you.
I used a Yamaha RX-V690 for four years, and still have it. It's been a great piece of equipment. My Yamaha CD changer (a year-old CDC-775) has also been very reliable (and it sounds good, too). I definitely agree that they build reliable, solid equipment.
