I'm a real cheapskate and I have had a hard time finding an amp for my sub. I do not want a plate amp and external amps are quite expensive. So here's my idea:
I have a few car audio amps laying around. I was thinking that I could take an electronics project case, drop the guts of the car...
I got my all-thread at www.barnhillbolt.com. Mine was $5.42 for a 48" length of 3/4" all-thread.
Ron, what kind of finish is that (hard to tell). I'm having difficulty deciding what to do with mine. 've thought about veneer. Or maybe just finishing the MDF. Trouble is, I don't know what...
From what I've gathered, it is some kind of EQ but I don't know exactly. Could someone explain it further to me?
I've just taken some measurements with my spl meter and I am in need of some serious tweaking.
Thanks,
Joel
Thanks Marv,
That Radio Shack MM is the exact one I've been loooking at.
The tone generator that you mentioned is also the one I have been playing with.
I do love the math and for me the whole point of the DIY is for me to learn. I designed my box on paper and then checked myself using...
Everyone keeps stating that I can't use a multimeter to measure T/S parameters. I beg to differ. Again, I've never done this yet but I've done a lot of research so far.
From what I've read, you only need a tone generator, a multimeter, an amp and some resistors. By measuring different...
I know that everybody else wants one too. I'm looking for an amp to run my sub. I really do not want a plate amp. I would prefer an amp to sit on my shelf. Here's a list of criteria:
100-200 watts into 4 ohms
preferably a mono amp but will consider a stereo to use one side
nice looking...
Thank to all for the help and info.
The PE woofer tester is price prohibitive.
First, I will try the Praxis route. Marv, if I use Praxis, do I still need a multimeter? Any links to any info or software that will help me make my measurements will be appreciated.
Bob, I thought about this...
Can anyone suggest what to look for in a multimeter for measureing T/S parameters? I know I need to look for one that measures frequency, but what else is good?
Also, if anyone has any specific make and model suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Joel
Thanks for the opinions. I picked up 30 feet of Gepco RG11 High Definition SDI video cable for $15. I'll post back and let you know how it goes.
Thanks,
Joel
I'm working on a project to improve my Home Theater video connections and I need some HDTV coax cable. I've narrowed it down to RG6 or RG11.
Does anyone have any experience and/or suggestions as to which is the better cable?
I know RG11 has a larger core wire, but that's about all I know...
Thanks all for the help and info. I was modeling a dipole speaker from Adaire. With the series resistance way up and a very large ported box, I was getting an F3 of around 9Hz but the "Max Power" was way down.
I tried it again with the series resistance set to 0 and got it to get an F3 of...
In Unibox 3.0, there's a field that's labeled "Series Resistance". The note states that this number represents the added resistance of cabling and X-over. Playing with this number greatly affects the response curve of a given driver. My questions are:
How is this number accurately...
My new subwoofer will be facing my listening area. Does it matter where on the box the port is located? Is it better to put the port on the same side as the driver?
Also, when calculating the length of the port, (mine is 20" long), should I compensate for the depth of the baffle or panel...
Hello all,
This is my first post and my first project (a sub). I was wondering if I should use a plate amp on the back of the box or get a separate amp to look pretty on my rack?
I am leaning towards a separate amp, but they're so much more expensive. What are your thoughts/experiences...
