The Beaver's back! Now new and improved with Amazon affiliate links for the DVDs to help keep it thriving. DVDBeaver. As Leslie Nielsen would say...Nice Beaver! John
Man, that Region 2, Pathe 2-disc SE PAL version looks terrible. That's one of the more striking comparisons I've seen at DVDBeaver. The Region 1 Superbit blows it away.
Kevin, did you receive the new version of the DVD from Netflix? They're still showing the pic of the case from the previous release so I've been hesitant to queue it up for rental. Thanks, John
Matt, guess I was considering the fact that their spaceship crash lands on the planet
is a minor spoiler in and of itself. No biggie obviously, but I know that I like to go into a movie knowing as little about the plot as possible.
Right...apparently it was originally narrated by Dustin Hoffman, the video and LD versions were narrated by Ringo Starr, and a Disney Channel version was narrated by Alan Thicke. This is according to IMDB. I'd certainly perfer the Dustin Hoffman version.
It was an animated made-for-TV movie from 1971 and I still remember bits and pieces of it, especially the song "Me and My Arrow." The main character was a round headed boy named Oblio who struggles along in a world where everything is pointed. It was just one of those films I saw as a kid that's...
What would be the possible motivation for this? Widescreen versions of dual releases consistently outsell their fullscreen counterparts. It would appear to make sense both monetarily and artistically to release in widescreen. It doesn't make any sense!
You can actually get it for $7.95 shipped from Digital Eyes. A total no-brainer at that price. BTW, go ahead and at least rent the Director's Cut of Blade Runner. You're denying yourself one of the great sci-fi classics of all time.
That's odd Paul, I don't recall noticing any sound sync issues and I have a hard time imagining I missed something as bad as a one second delay. I was using a Panasonic XP30 and the standard DD 1.0 English soundtrack. I'd take a closer look/listen, but the DVD is already on its way back to Netflix.
Just got done watching the new DVD of Omega Man and while the quality of the movie itself is certainly debatable ;), the quality of the transfer is a home run. Vivid, accurate color and deep blacks in an extremely sharp image with no edge enhancement that I could detect on my 64" Pioneer.
Hi Brian, That's one of the discs I viewed while I was trying out a Panasonic S35 a few weeks back. I noticed the same dreadful combing artifacts as you witnessed. I wrote it off as poor deinterlacing performance by the S35, but now I'm not so sure where the fault lies. It was just a rental...
Just watched the first half of this movie with my 6 year old daughter. What a charming movie...and my daughter loves it. I just wanted to comment on the quality of the transfer, though. While the colors are wonderful, I did see a lot of ringing/edge enhancement in the transfer on my 64" Pioneer...
