Well it seems the Senator has been saved for now. I hope this is the last time it needs to be, and I hope to see more revivals in the future. As to the raising of the amount needed, apparently it was due to legal fees and such associated with the potential foreclosure.
I saw Lawrence of Arabia in 70mm at the Senator a few years ago. It was without a doubt the best movie-going experience of my life. That film put me to sleep the first time I tried it to watch at home on DVD, but I gave it a second chance mostly because of my love for the Senator, and it's now...
Peter, do yourself a favor and don't automatically shrug off a film because of its age. Like any great art, great films have meaning and power independent of whatever time or culture that spawned them. I'm thinking specifically of Casablanca, which you mentioned; everything about that film...
Funny you'd say that, there's already a Starbuck's in a shopping center across the street. A shopping center that has experienced a major revitalization over the last few years due in large part to the Senator's presence. Sigh...it's times like these when being a billionaire would really come...
It's on the national register of historic places, but that only gives it tax breaks, no protection or anything. I stopped by today and picked $40 worth of gift certificates. I figure I'll pay in advance for my next five viewings and let them have the money for now. I was gonna just donate money...
Hey everyone, it's been quite a while since I've posted here, but my favorite movie theater is in danger. The Senator Theater, a true art deco palace and the only classic single-screen theater remaining in Baltimore, will be auctioned off on Feb. 21 unless the owner, Tom Kiefaber, can pay off...
I want to get the "Into the West" set for my dad for Christmas because he's something of a history buff and we took a trip to the west this summer and are both interested in the region. I've been looking around for reviews and can't find any. I'm interested in knowing the following: 1)How is...
How bout my Terps rolling up 570 yards of total offense against UVa? Vernon Davis (tight end) is the best player in college football that I bet 75% of you have never heard of. If he doesn't win the Mackey, something is incredibly wrong.
This a great problem to have, but a tough decision nonetheless. Choose 2: Shaun Alexander Cadillac Williams Brian Westbrook Todd Henry: I'd go Westbrook and Jamal. Denver's run D has looked pretty good so far, but it's pretty much a toss-up between Lewis and Taylor. Alex-C...
John, my film professor told us a website where you can buy a compilation with Superstar on it. It's www.illegalart.org, I think, not sure about the .org though, just fool around and you should find it.
In South Dakota I saw a bakery whose sign read "Meat and pasties," made even funnier by the fact that it was a hand-painted sign, so it wasn't like a light just burned out or something.
