Brand new out of the box and I can't get this to work. Trying to connect Optical cable to Denon AVR1602. Sound comes through the RCA jacks fine, but nothing through the optical output. I told the Denon the DVD player was now the optical input (used to have a DVD player that used Coax) so I don't...
Everything I read says there is no box with DVI switching capabilities available. As far as HD DirectTV boxes, there is also the Hughes E86 model. Not sure if that has DVI out (I think so). None of the boxes have DVI passthrough AFAIK.
About six months ago, my 10 year old VCR gave up the ghost. So I bought a new Panasonic - nothing fancy. As I was looking at my VHS library this weekend, I noticed the new VCR wouldn't accept a handful of tapes I made. Mind you, these tapes played fine in a circa 1989 VCR I have. Any reason...
Saw a 51H83 in Best Buy ... pretty sharp. One question - it doesn't look like it will do 480 any more. There was a command to switch from 540p to 1080i - I thought those two were essentially the same thing. Why would someone want to switch between those two? Is not having 480 a big deal? They...
Does somebody have a answer to the question about 720? I was told by Toshiba tech support today that the 51H83 would do 720 ... is this rare? I thought most sets would convert it to 1080. Thanks. P.S. Any idea when Best Buy will have the 51H83? I noticed they took the 50H82 off their web...
My wife won't let me get a new TV unless I figure out where the components are going to go. She doesn't want a rack next to the TV (too cluttered, she says), and the Toshiba model I want doesn't come with a shelf underneath. The guy at the store said I could put some stuff on top of the TV (it...
There are two lines in the Toshiba. The regular 50H82 (or whatever size) is DVI upgradable ... the 50HDX82 has DVI. I like the stretch modes on the Toshiba the best and would endorse that set.
I've heard of people calling DTV and threatening to cancel, then getting credits on their account to offset the high cost of the box. $150 - $250 depending on who you talk to.
The best advice I can give is to spend some time at the electronic store and compare. Once you have a model number in mind, you can search this forum and others and see what others have said. Keep in mind you'll almost always find people that love set xyz and people that hate the same thing...
I thought if you had a set top HD D* box like the Hughes D86, you didn't need an OTA antenna. Looking at the owners manual, I realize this isn't right. Here's my question: why would you run the cable from the antenna into the D* box? I would think you would go straight to the TV instead. The...
Your assumption in your 1st paragraph is correct - you need a new dish and new reciever to get DTV HD. Dishes are cheap, the boxes are expensive ($500 or so). I'm confused by your last question ... why would you buy a non Direct TV HD receiver? If you don't want to get a Direct TV HD...
A point of clarification - with the DirecTV HD box, do I still need an antenna? I know the DTV box will get OTA channels, but didn't know I still needed rabbit ears. Please clarify.
My two cents - I am a very satisfied Direct TV customer. I'm a big sports fan ... the NFL Sunday Ticket Package is only available on Direct TV. That was the main deciding factor for me.
I got a cheap subwoofer for XMAS ... what "gain" should I set it at? I could tell it would get louder the more I turned it up. Am I looking for a blend with the other speakers? Another thing ... is there any way to get the middle channel (dialouge) to be louder in comparison to the rest of...
Please correct if any of the following is wrong. I understand I need a different dish/set-top box to get DirectTV HD signals. Do I need a separate box to get OTA signals in HD? Will my locals on DirecTV be in HD? Thanks.
I want to set up a room with 4 Direct TV receivers and TVs to watch football on Sundays. I have a few questions: How do all the remotes work? If I want to change the DirecTV channel on one receiver, will the remote change all the receivers at the same time? Do I need different brands of...
Anyone else have this problem? I listen to most DVDs at -32 to -36 on my Denon AVR1602. I had A Beautiful Mind up at -24 to -22 and still was struggling to hear at times. I didn't read anything about this in a review. Seemed to play okay so I didn't get the sense there was anything wrong with...
When you watch the "chronological" version on Disc 2, do you get the whole movie?
On my player, I get all the black& white/Sammy stuff together, then the scene where
he and Lenny go the abandoned building
The whole thing is about 15-20 minutes, including the end credits. Is there any way...
"If people cannot accept DVD's in letterbox format, then they don't deserve to have one."
What? Does that mean if I can't get the blinking 12:00 off my VCR I can't have that, either? That elitist attitude gets nowhere.
"Our battle is not with the studios or the consumers who like their...
The major addition to the film is a scene explaining more fully why Constanze has such contempt for Salieri. Salieri, the court composer, has in his gift a lucrative appointment that, he explains to the young bride, will be her husband's--if she will grant Salieri her favors. Since there is...
My 8 year Sony VCR stopped accepting tapes over the weekend. Even trying to force the tape in doesn't work - the "tape in" indicator light comes on and the heads begin to spin before the tape is fully seated inside. Is there any quick solution to this problem? VCRs are so cheap now I could...
I have DirecTV and the most basic cable package available. My TV doesn't do dual-tuner, so I need another source to do PIP. Also wanted to be able to watch one thing and record another. And one of the local sports team is on the local cable only network.
I love my DirecTV system, but it's...
