There is no room for a stand under the TV to put the center speaker in. And I don't want to mount it on the floor  as the TV is going into a cabinet with doors that close in front of it. So under the TV is not an option. Right above the TV are some cabinets that are about 3 feet...
Hi! I'm moving into a new house where my 57" Sony Widescreen TV just barely fits into a cabinet / cubby hole in the family room. The problem is that there's no room on top of the TV for a center channel speaker. Would it be possible to wire the center channel from my receiver TO my TV and...
Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I think a somewhat "hidden" satellite system would be best. I will be using my gameroom to show off some flashy speakers and sound, so for this family room, I just need something that will broadcast decent surround sound when watching movies, but is...
Hey Nhan. Yes, we are definitely staying in Frisco! That would be cool to listen to your system! I have an email into AV123 as well, looking for suggestions with a Rocket configuration. I really like the looks and reviews of their speakers, though I haven't heard them yet. I was thinking that I...
Thanks, Greg, for your comments. Your concern is one I share, so that's why I thought I'd post here to get other ideas before I tried something. Ideally, they would not be "furniture" but smaller bookshelves or satellites. The only time I'll use the system for music is background music for...
Yeah, that's a good thought. The other thing to note is that the outline of the Great Room on the drawing is where the carpeted area stops. On the outside of that line is woodfloored area, providing a "walk way" around the room. So here's what I was thinking. As you are looking at the TV...
Good question. Unfortunately, the answer is yes. ;) It will be hidden away behind doors when not in use to preserve an elegant family room feel. I have a gameroom upstairs that will be more the typical HT setup where I'll put a flat-panel on the wall with perfectly symmetrical speaker placement...
Thanks for the response. I have a Harman/Kardon AVR320 receiver I'll be using. My sub that I *can* use if I spend too much on just speakers is a Sony SAWM40 with the polyfill hack. Also, to add, I'm not an audiophile, or a HT fanatic like I'd like to be. ;) So I think I'll be okay with...
Hey guys, I'm moving into a new home and need to try to figure out how to get my surround sound set up for the family room. The family room (called the Great Room on the floorplan) is VERY open and not ideal for your typical home theater setup. So I thought I'd come to you guys for some...
Does anyone know where/how to buy a Japan version of the Gameboy Advance SP now? Will it run all non-imported (US-based) games just fine? Just curious. Not sure if I can wait until the U.S. release date, but I guess I will if I have to.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I didn't find any cable completely unplugged, but I re-seated all the component cables, and ta-da! Shrek is a vivid green again!! Ahh, I feel so much better. Thanks for the help. Now I have to go watch a bunch of DVDs again!!
I've tried using Avia to tweak the colors, but even after my home-calibration, Shrek is grey, instead of the green he should be. I plan on paying for professional ISF calibration in the near future, but in the meantime, it hurts to watch my tv this way! Especially when HBO is broadcasting...
Thanks guys. I was kind of thinking B would be the better choice too, not to mention a bit easier.
Here's a followup question - The TV in the picture is a 57" Sony, so from that you can see that the cabinet areas that would house the bookshelf speakers would be much higher than the listeners...
I am thinking about finally getting rid of the bose cubes and upgrading to JBL S36II or S38II fronts, plus the S-Center of course.
Please look at pictures of my home theater using the link in my signature and give me some advice:
Should I
(a) use multi-directional mounting brackets and...
Can't believe I got more posts over at HomeTheaterSpot.com.
For anyone that is interested, this problem was NOT unique to myself. Apparently DirecTV pushed out an upgrade two nights ago that cleared the zip code in the "local" information of your receiver setup data. The result - no OTA...
I went into the setup menu and re-scanned for local channels and it's now not picking up any of the digital signals. I'm using a Hughes HD Sat box. It's been working fine and I haven't changed anything.
Suggestions?
It is no longer a working link. Is there an alternate path? I heard there's a nice little "card" you can printout to show people difference between widescreen and fullscreen but can't get to it.
Thanks,
Well, I figured out how to scan for new local channels. Not only did I pick up CBS digital signal, but a couple others as well. HURRAY! I am now seeing the Masters in all it's HD glory!!
Just recently got the Sony SAWM40 subwoofer. While I'm still tweaking settings, it sounds awesome.
One small problem: I've noticed on two movies (Air Force One - Superbit, and Planet of the Apes) that when there's deep thunderous bass, I get some bright blue horizontal lines flash on the...
That's strange...never heard of this. I'm learning all the time!
Tell me....how do you manually scan for HD OTA signals? I have a Hughes HD Sat box.
Let me know...thanks!
Anyone else have a problem with tonight's broadcast? Should be in HD, but I don't think I'm getting it.
Also, most of my other local OTA channels have a "-1" after it (e.g., 4-1 for Fox, 5-1, 8-1) in addition to the satellite broadcast where it shows just the number. However, I no longer...
Should I be concerned about the temperature in my home theater cabinet? I am following the suggestions for the receiver and sat receivers about not stacking components on top of them. But even with a fair amount of space between shelves, it seems pretty hot in there after several hours of use...
Come on guys....I can't be the only one with a Sony! I can't afford professional ISF cal right now, so I want to get the AVIA cal portion correct, at least.
The problem is...the picture looks pretty dang awesome to me already, and when I walk through AVIA, I find I'm not really changing much...
Was wondering if someone could tell me how they have setup their picture settings (Vivid, Standard, Movie, Pro).
I bought an AVIA disk and made some tweaks, but am not confident in my abilities to assess.
A couple questions:
1. Which setting did you alter using calibration? I altered...
That's correct - three cables coming in - 1 to the HD Sat, and the other two to the DirecTiVo.
And yes, we have to switch video sources. My HD Sat uses one component video input on my HDTV, and the Tivo unit uses another component video input.
BUT...with the Philips Pronto which I just...
Just get both! That's what we did. I have a Hughes HDTV/DirecTV satellite receiver, AND a Hughes DirecTiVo unit that has dual tuner.
The only downside is that you have to choose whether you want to watch HDTV or TiVo. And if you are watching through the HD Satellite, and decide you want to...
Thanks for the help for a newbie. That did it. Apparently someone switched it to Normal even though I usually keep it on Full. I was thinking something was wrong with the DVD settings...never thought to check the TV.
Thanks again.
Need some suggestions. I have a new Sony SAWM40 12" sub, Harman/Kardon AVR320 receiver, and Bose Acousticrap front/center/surrounds (I know, I know...I'll replace them in the future...just can't afford it right now).
Here's the question: How should I best setup the speaker settings on the...
