DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (Recommended)

This was exactly the reason I questioned whether or not the transfer was 2:1. The black bars are so barely there that you really have to look for them. But, if the director approved, I'll accept it (even if I liked the 2.35:1 presentation better). Agree with comments about Meyer rejuvinating...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (Recommended)

Has anyone with a PC based DVD player actually measured this aspect ratio. Seems much closer to 1.85:1 than 2:1 to me. In my opinion, the transfer was opened up too much, removing some of the cinematic feel of the film. When a film is released as "widescreen", should be the Original Theatrical...

Not sure about buying Knights of the Old Republic

It's... OK. The combat system in RPGs just doesn't work for me... skill doesn't really come into play, it's almost luck (this coming from someone who isn't that great at games anyway). Sure, there's strategy involved, but a roll of the virtual dice still determines the outcome. I enjoy the...

Not sure about buying Knights of the Old Republic

OK, I bought it. Haven't played yet, but bought it based on all the positive responses.

Not sure about buying Knights of the Old Republic

Please help me make up my mind as to if I should purchase Knights of the Old Republic for the Xbox. I'm a huge Star Wars fan but my only experience with RPGs was one of the Final Fantasy games (one of the PS1 games). And to be honest, I didn't like Final Fantasy, I felt as though I was watching...

What's up with widescreen in the USA?

A big problem (and I'm sure this is everywhere, not just Ohio where I live) is that the majority of people think they know more than they actually do. And these people are generally not shy, reclusive people. These are the people who try to educate everyone they know. Just spreading...

Star Trek V:CE due on 10/14

Penny Juday showed the Rock Man footage at a convention July 4th weekend. Don't get too excited... it's only test footage and less than a minute long. She did also show a small part of the Herman Zimmerman tribute. Looked like it could be pretty good. The best part thing she showed though...

"They Live" coming out in R1 in October....

Anybody want to bet we see Flash Gordon within a few months?

Any digitally fimed live-action DVDs other than Star Wars: Episode II?

Full Frontal was shot with a combo of digital (using a prosumer Canon XL1S) and film. I'm not sure how the DVD is sourced.

HTF REVIEW: "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral" (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) (with screenshots)

Has anyone else noticed a flickering in this transfer? Most pronounced during bright, outdoor shots. It is just this disc as well because I just put in Catch Me If You Can and it looks perfect.

    Does the Xbox play SACD's?

If this is a stupid question, please forgive me. But does SACD use a different laser than the DVD drive in the Xbox? Is it possible that an upgrade could become available for download or purchase like the DVD kit that would allow playback of DVD-A and/or SACD? Would probably need a new AV...

    negative ratio vs. intended ratio?

Though I'm not 100% sure, I would suspect that Shane was intended to be shown at 1.33. The film was released in 1953, the same year scope films were introduced, and I don't think matting of spherical films had become common place by then. I could be wrong though. Speaking of being wrong, I...

    Region 0 DVDs

There was a Region 0 special edition of Pulp Fiction from Malaysia a couple of years ago. Much better than the bare bones region 1 available at the time.

    Paramount Quick Questions

Actually, Face/Off is anamorphic. Just too much EE in my opinion.

    high definition on xbox

Dead or Alive is not 1080i. My set locks into anamorphic mode when a 1080i signal is recieved and it doesn't for Dead or Alive. Dragon's Lair 3D on the other hand did lock into anamorphic mode.

    The Thing – 16x9 Enhanced?

If I remember correctly, the free copies of the movie that some retailers were giving away with the PC/XBox game were marked as 16:9 but were the same discs as released in the Collector's Edition.

Films you'd like to see re-released

The Color Purple, Driving Miss Daisy, and Bladerunner will get new transfers in 2003. In fact, Color Purple and Miss Daisy have already been anounced for a February (?) release. Breakfast Club is being re-released in April... no info on if new transfer was done. I would like to add to the...

    Xbox problem

I was having the same problem... getting a lot of disc read errors. Based on somethign I read on the 'net, I erased the game files for those games I know longer own/play. And guess what... it worked. Not one disc read error since. Now, what old game files have to do with reading the disc is...

*** Official 'Star Wars: Attack of the Clones' DVD Announcement/Discussion thread

Just curious if anone knows this since all the disc 2 materials are 16x9 widescreen. Though I would never support pan and scan, did Fox electronically zoom in on the documentaries to produce a "Full Frame" disc 2 for the full frame version? Just curious if people who buy the full frame version...

    Cincinnati area bargains

Just a little word on Cincinnati area bargains. Trader's World off I-75 near Lebanon has several dealers with most DVD's priced at $15... one had most titles priced at 2 for $25 (with a few big titles excluded). Picked up Saturday Night Fever for a flat $15, no tax. And, hopefully this won't...

When is Fullscreen Pan & Scan & When is it really FULLSCREEN? I'm becoming Joe 6 Pack

To add yet another facet to the confusion, some directors have the entire film hard-matted, effects shots or not. But, regardless of whether or not the film is hard-matted fully, partially, or not at all... the film is not in it's intended aspect ratio.

    Jason X Digital transfer

Are we absolutely sure that Jason X wasn't shot digitally? I seem to remember stories just as it was going into production stating that this low-budget horror film was beating George Lucas to the digital punch.

So will we ever see KIDCO on DVD?

One thing that may keep this title off the market is the notorious recent past of it's star, Scott Schwartz. Though this didn't keep "The Toy" from being released, "KidCo" is much more of a childrens' film.

    What irritates you about DVDs?

My list: 1. Animated menus that take too much time to navigate. 2. FBI warnings that disable the chapter forward button. 3. On Universal discs, audio not switchable during the feature. 4. EPK's being passed off as behind the scenes features. 5. Lack of the trailer (this does has historic...

    Weekly Roundup 8/27

Just wanted to chime in here and let everyone know that, at least in the Cincinnati area, WalMart has "The Rookie" for $13.49. A disclaimer though. The tag stated FF. I just wonder if this price is good for full-frame only.

    Waaaah....I want my Buffy!

I found the brightness meter. After turning it up to be able to see SOMETHING, I quite enjoyed the game. Is anybody else experiencing occasional pauses though? Also, the game disc stopped being recognized at some point in the first level. I've had this happen with the cheap Official XBox...

Picked it up today at a local store. Game is fairly good the little I've played though on an ISF calibrated set it is very dark.

$9.99 For 30 Anvy Ed of Ngt. of Living Dd

Did you buy it? If not, avoid it like the plague. It's an abomination of this classic film. If you did buy it, hopefully you haven't opened it and can return it.
