I may be mistaken, but one thing that keeps jumping out at me is when Hiro first sees the explosion in NYC during the first few episodes, to me it appears that it happened in the evening. The explosion in the finale was at night. Is there another explosion or is my memory playing tricks?
See, I've learned something already. Do you think HDMI switching is something that is going to be added to the new models this year or are we still a little ways off before it is more common?
Wouldn't ya know it, my receiver just died and my extended warranty expired in April. :frowning: Since I had been pretty happy with the 898, I haven't been keeping up with receiver technology so I would like some suggestions on a new receiver. Here are some ideas that might help you help me...
I had one delivered to my house yesterday. The picture right out of the box was pretty good. I did a real quick calibration with video essentials and that made it even better. Lord of the Rings was fantastic. This TV made the movie look like it was broadcast in HD. Covergence was good right out...
My sentiments exactly. Dolby was more or less forced by Onkyo (maybe others) to revise their software. Hopefully Dolby will start testing any updates to their software with an x9x Onkyo before it is released, but I would not blame them if they did have to start doing something that caused...
From another forum concerning Discovery HD : ------ Talked to Discovery and they got a software patch from Dolby for their AC3 encoder. The idea was for the patch to take care of the extended flags that the Onkyo receivers were seeing and going into mute for a moment. I believe the patch was...
On another message forum, there is a thread saying that the Discovery HD dropouts have been fixed. I cannot confirm this since I do not have High Def. Anyone able to confirm that Discovery HD has been fixed? If it is, I hope this will be something that HBO can do as well.
Here is the response I have just received regarding the questions I asked above: ----------------------- Thank You for contacting Onkyo USA Product Support. We are currently working with Onkyo Japan as well as Dolby Digital to solve this issue, as we did with the DVD issue that is now...
Natalie M I edited my previous post while you were typing your last message. I have decided to wait it out for awhile to see if we can get any response from onkyo. I sent the following message to onkyo Tuesday and haven't received a response yet. Hopefully soon.. -------- I have a...

I think the response that you got from Onkyo was only addressing the DVD issue. The only response to any DD5.1 issue was this and that was back on 12/21/01.
The DVD issue and HBO issues, while similar, are different. If the HBO issue were the same as the DVD issue, I believe many...
I hope I am wrong, but since I have not seen any kind of official response from onkyo on their website, I am assuming that nothing will be done on their end. With that in mind, has anyone heard when the next version of the 898 (900?) is going to be released? If it is anytime soon (before...
Just wondering if anyone has received any more information on this issue. I tried to watch Swordfish on HBO 501 Saturday night, but the audio dropouts forced me again to switch to 2.0 PCM.
I hear what you are saying but when I recorded "Angel Eyes" with my PVR(See above post) and heard a dropout, I could rewind it slightly and I could then hear the sound that was muted out by the Audio Receiver. To me, if it was the Satellite Receiver, then the muting would be in the exact same...
I am also having problems with my Onkyo 898 dropping audio with Dolby Digital on certain movies (Angle Eyes) and not others (Cast Away) both on HBO. I have been able to change the Digital output on the Receiver from Dolby Digital to PCM audio and the problem goes away (of course this deprives me...
