The Hitachi fell off my list when I discovered it can only accept two hi-def inputs. Either 2 HDMI, 2 Component, or 1 of each. Apparently you can't even have them all hooked up simultaneously and hope that the TV recognizes the one that is turned on... Since I have waaaaaaay more than 2...
FWIW, I just ordered a Toshiba 62HMX84 after reviewing a product list similar to yours for some similar reasons (Gaming & DVD). I used to be a hold-out waiting for the Samsung HLP 5674, but between the delays and the fact that they robbed the HLN series parts bin to build the XX74 series, I...
When I got the speakers home, I noticed they weren't packed to well (packing tape holding feet together, etc). I paid for brand new speakers, and said as much to the pinheads at A&B Sound, but they sweet-talked me into keeping them, saying they'd fix anything that went wrong. Well, plenty...

I have PSB 5Ts and a 9C as well...and the 9c has been in the shop once, the towers twice. All this in the first 18 months... ...which is why I always recommend Paradigm to my friends...:frowning: I'd recommend taking them in for repair (and getting a loner pair for the duration). Once...

FWIW, I had the same problem a couple of years ago, evident from the first time I powered up my sub through my new in-wall wired system, :frowning: though I was lucky that I was able to get to the cable through a crawl-space. I replaced the cheap no-name cable with a higher quality 25 ft...
I have the RX-V2200, and I can vouch for the advice given to leave the switch on 8 Ohm. If I put the switch where it should be for my 6 Ohm speakers, the sound becomes slightly harsh and thin. Switch it back to 8 Ohm, and it sounds noticeably better. Plenty of ventilation and you should...
You could try here: http://www.digiupdate.com/ The majority of the info is DLP related, but there is a lot of information comparing the pros & cons of each HDTV technology as well...
I think the speakers appear to be the weakest link—esp. the Cerwin Vegas. I have PSB Image 5T’s & 9C across the front, and I am very happy with them—no experience with Polk though. If I were you, I would replace the entire front stage with timbre matched mains and center speaker (leave the...
Good point Steve. There is another recent thread that talks about which SVS is most comparable to the VTF3-3 mkII, and you're right, I don't think it rates up there with the SVS "Plusses".
Thanks for figuring all that out Drew! It's amazing (and saddening) just how fast the price adds up...:frowning: This means that my choices for $1,000 CAD are (all prices are delivered and include all taxes & shipping): - The SVS 25-31 PCi for $988.73 CAD - The HSU VTF-3 MKII for $950...
Interesting idea Richard--I never thought of that. I wonder if UPS would allow that? (and give up the more lucrative aspect of their cross-border business).
Exactly what I was afraid of. :frowning: Looks like the HSU route through the Canadian distributor will be the way to go for me. Rough calculations indicate the average Canadian should be able to get a HSU VTF-3 MKII delivered & paid for (incl. taxes) with enough left over from a $1,000...
Hi Joe, Small world! I'm in Edmonton, and looking at the 20-39 PC+ as well. I wonder if shipping on two cylinders at once is cheaper than individually...;) I too am concerned about using UPS...I bought tires from Tirerack.com and the duties (via UPS) came to hundreds of dollars...ouch...
Thanks John--Some excellent info there! In reading through the predominately stereo-subwoofer oriented info, however, I still couldn't find any direction when it came to putting my old sub behind the couch and running dual L&R Sub cables from the surround pre-outs to the L&R line level inputs...
I second the Paradigm recommendations--though I would probably go with an SVS or HSU sub (over the Paradigm sub) if you are in the United States, since the price/performance of those products is reportedly excellent (unless you have to ship them to Canada :frowning: ...). If I were in your...
I'm currently wading throught the posts surrounding "which sub to buy," (for under $1K CAD delivered) and in doing so, began wondering what to do with my (Costco special) David D-Box 300 when I finally pull the trigger on a new sub...maybe keep it and move it to surround-sub duty? My...
To all the folks who want a difficulty slider: Just as real golf is easier in the sunshine with no wind or rain, video game golf is as well. Crank the weather effects as high as they go, turn off the ball spin feature, and I think you'll find it more of a challenge....
My thoughts: Everything looks great, except for the JBL --> JBL upgrade. Now that you have a solid start with the N series, I would upgrade to higher quality speakers a pair at a time (rather than buying 5 lower priced speakers all at once). That could mean replacing the mains & CC with Paradigm...
I have the same remote/receiver, and have never had any problems. The volume control is one of the few (only?) commands that requires IR-repeating though (repeatedly sending out signals)...so maybe that part of it is malfunctioning.... Not much help huh? :frowning:
Thanks guys! So far I'm leaning towards B&W 60x, Paradigm Studio 40s/60s... Electronics are tough though, because is it really smart to buy a stereo-only unit, when DVD-A and SACD are gaining momentum? She already has a DVD player, so maybe someday she'll want HT....not now though... "you...
A friend has asked me for advice regarding purchasing a system for 2CH audio. I am more familiar with HT set-ups, so I would appreciate any advice you can give. Here are the specifics behind her request: - 2CH audio quality is key (not necessarily quantity) - Looking for one pair of...
I've had the David 301 for about 1.5 years now, and while I have very little to compare it against, I have found it to be very good for the $289 I paid for it at Costco. It is certainly enough to get me into trouble with the wife, and it has enough oomph to make you want to re-adjust the...
