I preferred the 100's. I thought the sound was significantly tighter and clearer. The low-end can be filled in w/ a sub later. It takes a while to get over the must have large front speakers mentality. I still don't think I'm over it.
Someone mentioned the V3 on the Performance line. All I know is that it will not affect the atoms or titans yet if at all. I personally like the Titan system. True the Atoms are slightly more accurate, but not by much and on his budget you'd be better off getting the titans, more present w/...
That's a very tough decision. For small speaker systems I was very impressed w/ both of them. You have to figure a way to test them sibe by side. Try borowing a pair of the Paradigm minimonitors and A/B them. That would be the best option.
Actually the dv 37 and dv 38A I saw hooked up to a 710 in the showroom looked downright horrible. Jaggies were ridiculous. PIcture was soft and unclear. I preferred my JVC 70 BK and I'm not that big a fan of JVC, changing though. If your dealer will ever let you compare them side by side w/ a...
GUddamnit.
First it's Paradigm w/ the Active line and now it's PSB w/ the Stratus line. These companies are getting rid of their best lines??? I really hope these are all BS rumors by some twisted idiot. What are you Canadians smoking? Where is Canada anyway? :)
Guy,
Have you considered adding a full frequency response from say 10hz-22khz or even higher to the new Avia. W/ a SPL you could measure where the dropouts are. I have a cd w/ some of these test tones. It's really useful and has helped me flatten out some dropouts in a soon to be replaced system.
Ok, I am really stupid w/ XO's. Why would you not just set your crossover at 80 or 60 hz giving your receiver does that and send everything for each channel to the sub? Can your sub not handle that? It seems odd that the sub would be kicking in for your center channel below 60 hz, but it...
Maybe they just did their research in the NRC-> Canadian right. Wouldn't having a flat response down to the crossover of the sub be the main thing to look at when it comes to the subs? Therefore, it doesn't matter if the floorstanders are powered, right? You could crossover anywhere below 80 hz...
Ron,
Put me on the list for the buy one get one free Christmas sale or was it the 50% off sale. Either way I'll take a 20-39 CS. Thanks.
Can bass cure your sickness?
Now picture someone constipated sitting on their sub trying to loosen up the old stools, hehe?

Taking Canadian Prices, exchange rate and 25% off you can basically take any Canadian price and cut it in half and expect just a little touch more. I calculated it to be about .475 of the original price. That puts the Active 40's at 1100. I had spoken to a dealer, but he doesn't have the 40's...
Sean,
Don't get worked up. I apologize. I shouldn't have gone as far as "garbage." My freshman yr I experimented w/ all the subs from Circuit City and Best Buy, the electronics gods. I really liked bloated and boomy bass where it was just below the flatulence barrier. I liked it. I kept...
Due to Bob's response about what equipment the Def Tech was hooked up to I went and auditioned the 2006's again. They were great sounding again. I really think they would be great for Home Theater again. I didn't want to reply w/ the I heard them in the showroom, quite good one actually, and the...
I auditioned an SVS 20-39 at a local Techies house and the PW 2200 while watching the pod race. I was exhilerated, but then started feeling sick and like I was on a rollercoaster and couldn't get off. That's what I call good bass. And if anyone's wondering the 20-39 barely egedt out the 2200...
Bob_A,
I have been reading your posts on the higher end Def Tech line and went to audition them and they were good speakers. I liked them, but I prefered the Active 40's by a wide margin. Yes, you are shocked. That is my opinion. Now I didn't get to compare 5 to 5 of the other, but as you...
My email to Paradigm a week ago.
If I have a sub crossover at 60 or 80 hz, why would I buy the Active 40's over the Active 20's? Can you tell me what the differences are? Thanks. Can you give me their list prices for the US and Canada too. Thanks. Oh and can you confirm that Paradigm is going...
This movie definitely has a warm spot from when I was younger, but it was god awful. I haven't seen it in yrs but I still remember the line where he goes "What's that I smell? Dookie" Oh good lord. Some other horrible moives w/ sentimental value are Heman and ... Howard the Duck. Yes you saw...
What happens to the frequency response if you tune one of your subs to a lower hz? Say you take a 20-39 and make it a 16-39 or say you have a 20-31? Can you just boost up the lower end to keep it flat? It sounds like a great idea to me, but I don't know anything about subs. That would keep the...
I was just wondering how many directors and producers prefer P&S. As long as there are people supporting OAR and we supporters are converting others along w/ the fact that directors bitch and moan about having their pieces of art maligned the studios are going to have a tough time not making...
I will definitely have to call Paradigm. Why would they be so stupid to stop the Actives? Ahhh... I was already planning the trip for a month or 2. Maybe something better is in the works, but it still better be active. People are definitely warming up to the new and better type of speakers...
I love this site. I have connected now w/ my inner nerd.
I am almost positive I'm going to run across the border and get some active 20's and maybe an Active CC. I'll probably get a powered sub HSU, PW2200, or an SVS. I have some questions for you HT gurus b/c I'm in college and can't waste...
