My 36xbr250 was $2200 with the stand about 7 years ago. If you compare that to today's HD CRT's, the prices are dead on. I really don't see the high prices you are talking about. If you brought up this arguement a few years ago, I would have agreed with you.
You shouldn't go by what you've heard. Go to the store and check it out yourself. I personally wouldn't waste my money on a new TV that is not HD. SD can't possibly look that bad on it. I'm going to CC within a few days. I'll take a look at it and give you a report.
It's $1799 at Circuit City. Like I said, I will be selling my old TV so that will contribute towards the price of the new one. Who knows, I may end up getting the Sony HS series myself. I made a mistake. It's $2199 at Circuit City. Maybe I'll just keep what I have. I hate going for second best.
Don't worry Tim, I am still in the same boat as you. I currently have a 36xbr250 and my friend just called me yesterday to buy it from me. I definitely want to upgrade to HDTV and the larger screen size. However, I love the picture that CRT's deliver and I am not a fan of the viewing angles of...
Tim, you said that you don't think you want HD, but you just specified that you were looking for something that displays 480p. Why don't you just go for an HD monitor? With that in mind, you can try out the Sony 32HS420. It's currently $899 at Circuit City. You also get free delivery. The only...
I agree with the others (mainly Jack) on the HDTV, but I disagree in regards to the RPTV. He clearly stated that the RPTV is not an option. In all honesty though, you should find out if your entertainment center will support the weight of the 32" or 36" that you plan on buying (especially with...
Arthur, plasma is definitely out of the picture. Like I said before, give me a CRT over plasma anytime. The average consumer cares more about a tv being thin rather than the picture quality. What a shame. While I don't mind it being thin, the quality should not be sacrificed. I was reading on...
Hi Tim, Aside from the size, what are your other requirements (HDTV, number and type of inputs, etc.)? In my opinion, $899 for a 36" high def (if that was a hi def you saw for that price) isn't very bad at all.
Jack, what would you recommend between a projection (including size) and a CRT for someone who has an 8 foot viewing distance? Like I said, I'm leaning more towards the CRT because of the awesome picture quality. However, I also love projections just because of the screen size, but I don't want...
Welcome Joe, The mods here will probably end up moving this thread to the audio/video sources forum, but let's see what the problem is here. First, what is the make and model of your dvd player? Also, with most dvd players, you usually have to go into the setup menu to actually set the...
Ricky, you have to admit, CRT's deliver excellent pictures. Give me a tube over a plasma anytime. I must admit, however that projection tv's give more of that 'theater' presence.
56" sitting 9 feet away? How is the picture sitting that close. I actually thought about this, but didn't want to be so close that I couldn't appreciate the picture.
Wow, same here! Mine is a Sony 36xbr250 that also does the anomorphic squeeze. I recently saw someone selling a 40xbr800 and matching stand locally for $1300 on ebay (buy it now price). By the time I got home and convinced myself to buy it, someone beat me to the punch. I wanted to kick myself...
Hi Kenneth, Like I said before, I believe you, but Dick pretty much summed it up (at least in my opinion) in his last post in regards to your last question.
Have I given you a reason not to? Remember, we are just exchanging opinions. That's what being in a forum all about :) . Believe...
Once they're both playing within their limits and all forms of sound processing are off. It may take a little tweaking to make sure both are set equally. I don't doubt you when you say you heard a huge difference, but like I said, there is some sort of variable you may have overlooked.
Kenneth, this may be a stupid question, but did you turn off the sound processing built into both units (flat equalization, bass boost, etc.)? Again, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I suspect there were other variables that played a role in your results.
I see no difference between the 4 screen shots. Also, if I do have to look that closely at each of them, the difference is not worth paying for. When someone talks to me about seeing or hearing a huge difference between cables, I just agree with them to shut them up. I do understand that...
Thanks for the input Rachael. I will definitely try your suggestions. Actually, I was able to get the Denon for the same price, brand new. The only thing is that I had to pay for shipping to return the Sony. I just like the fact that I now have a universal player. One thing I learned about...
Jack is right. After looking carefully at my system, I decided not to purchase the 3803. While the Denon receiver is in my opinion a better unit, it would not be worthwhile at this point for me to upgrade from the Sony. I decided that I would be better off spending that money upgrading to High...
