Gladiator is anomorphic, but you must be carefull because when it is mention that a title is widescreen it deosn't mean it is anamorphic. And if the it is not anamorphic the vertical squeeze will not work and the effect will be as describe. Be sure that the mention anamorphic or enhanced for...
Geometry is distortion visible mainly in straight line, or perfectly round object. A simple grid pattern available on many calibration dvd will show this quite clearly. But often you can see it by watching a simple movie. The problem are mainly around the edge of the screen, when you see a...
When a car stops before changing the engine you must check if there is fuel. Are you sure that the dvd movie you are using is anamorphic (or sometimes call enhance for widescreen) If it is not the effect would be as you describe.
The black bars are normal, but the distortion is not. As you...
Well since everyone never heard anything bad about samsung or akai here's one. I bought a samsung 36" for the main reason as mention above, easy access to the squeeze. I notice in the first few days that the squeeze was wrong being stretch over an inch too much vertically, and there was also...
That's normal. Exactly the same thing will happen on a 16:9 tv. If someone watch a 2.35:1 on a 16:9 tv there will be some black bar with scan line top and bottom that is exactly what you get on your TV. The black bar without scan line turn your tv into a 16:9 and then black bar (with scanline)...
This is for my samsung txl3676. I know how to get into the service menu but I don't know what value affect the geometry and exactly what to do. The side of the screen deform pretty badly vertical line. A vertical line will not only bend.....it bends outward in the middle and bend the other way...
Thanks Bill, Is there some place on the net where I can get more info about adjusting geometry? Is this a tricky procedure or is it quite straight forward? Thanks again
I just bought it's bigger brother the txl3676 and i'm quite pleased with it. The image on the showroom floor look uglier than anything else but once calibrated with a good dvd like Avia or Video essentials it looks beautiful. All samsung from 27" do the squeeze trick and It was the selling...
You just have to go into the user menu with your remote and choose 16:9 enhanced.....this is not what I call big work, it's certainly not as complicated as all other brand on which you have to go into the service menu and change a few parameter. Rob
Sorry for the delay, here's the link to the JVC I was talking about. This is on the futureshop.ca web site, the canadian equivalent of best buy in the states. The price are listed in Canadian and they ship anywhere in canada.

At your price range there are two model wich might interest you the sony htb-5 and the the JVC htb-5. Both retail around 499$can at future.shop or audiotronics in Canada. Both sound pretty much the same, But some time you can get the JVC as I did on sale at future shop for 439$. Those are the...
Ok, I've cheated a little. It is not really a real widescreen. But nonetheless it si quite close. With the vertical compression mode on the samsung, the 36" TXL3676 becomes a beautiful 32" 16:9 regular tube TV. Really not bad for the price. Don't be put off by the setting you see on the showroom...
Mine are Contrast 36 Brightness 38 Sharpness 10 Color 26 Tint 55/45 The result is quite dark but I really like it, but maybe I'll brigten it a little, but the image is so clean it's really amazing.
Samsung TXL 3676. The least I can say is "WOW". It's true that the image seem a lot darker overall at first, but what a difference in quality. I just watched it for one night and now I can't imagine watching the other mode. When you guys were talking about "torch" mode on showroom I wasn't...

I'm not even sure if those are problem, that's why I ask here. Each time I change channel, the tv do two quick flash like if it has autocolor correction, but there isn't. I read that there was a feature for limiting white level and something about black.......could this be it kicking in at each...
I don't know if it's a reference dvd, but when i watch "Moulin Rouge" on any sytem i can tell if it's calibrated. Some nice dark scene, some really contrasted scene and some blue light red lignt play. To my taste This is one of those film that become quite unwatchable if the color aren't set...
I wasn't thinking about breaking down the forum, but just a posting wich stay on top with the more popular brand and section where we can put some pertinent info about the different model: adjustment, calibration, test result.....things like that. It could even be a place where we can't ask...
If it is possible, Wouldn't it be nice if there were like subfolder for each tv brand with some tips on setting, and other usefull stuff concerning a particular brand; red push result, color temperature, what's your calibration, service menu functions.....etc. This could be in the form of one...
About samsung, they got four color setting. Standard/Natural/Mild and Custom..........talk about confusion! Wich one is the closest to the 6500K??? I didn't get my set yet and i wonder if i can only tweek the Custom setting or if all four can be adjusted??
Rob
Well quite different from what i've read before wich was an overcast winter day when everything is cover with snow..............that would be even harder for you!
