Here is part of a paragraph from my RTA manual (Goldline DSP30).
Your sound system has ideal frequency response when all the lights are within one or two divisions from each other (+/-2dB deviation). The lights should form a horizontal flat
line, give or take one division. You should find...
I tested the HGS-18 and I own an Ultra with Samson s1000 and Symmetrix parametric EQ. I never A/B'd them or even had them in the same location (The HGS was at the dealer) but I did listen with very same material which is very familiar to me and used a Goldline test DVD with my RTA used for the...
The theoretical maximum resolution has to do with the grain of the film, equipment and processing. A 35mm 16x9 film equals appoximately 3280 x 1845 interlaced. Most film is 24-30 frames per second. 70mm film is approximately 4x the resolution 6560 x 3690 interlaced. These resolutions are for...
Hi,
Try http://www.audioreview.com/audio101/diyspeaker/ There are reviews on this kit here as well. You can link to it from the instructions. I have talked to two people who did the kit and swear by them. Also, I have talked to Ed Frias and he is very helpful. A few other companies are...
Hi,
I was comparing the frequency charts of your subwoofers on the website. I was wondering if you have done a sweep starting at 10hz or lower on the Ultra like you did with your other subs?
Thanks
Bob
Which is better for calibrating video only? I currently have a Sony Wega direct view TV. I will be upgrading to FPTV or plasma in the future.
Thanks
Bob
Hi Dustin,
Adire Audio makes a plate bi and tri amplifier with built in active crossovers. The crossovers are adjusted by changing a resistor to get the crossover point you want. They would work with any cabinet and driver combo you would like. And the three way would avoid the 2 1/2 issue...
Many DVD-A players have the timing and db level adjustments in them. Some have a fixed crossover as well(usually just a small or large setting for the speakers). But, none let you mix and match various crossover points for the different capability speakers like the ICBM does.
Hi Dan,
I understand the WAF. There are many factors that affect placemnt and sound. But, almost under any circumstance I would probably prefer the surrounds even in a less than optimal placement than no surrounds at all. IMHO.
Bob
Hi Mike,
I have two M500T amps. They are very good. I used to only have one and it was driving my Infinity Reference Standard IIb speakers with excellent results. I added a second one and bi-amped my speakers with phenomenal results. I don't remember how much I paid for them. I think...
Hi Ken,
I think I will do that for the Bryston. There reputation is excellent. I am a little concerned now about the active 40's being discontinued and I am still researching other non-canadian models as well.
Thanks for your help!
Bob
Thanks Herb,
Although Montreal is probably the closest urban area for me to shop, I usually visit my relatives in Ottawa. So I would probably look in that area. Anyone know of any good shops within an hour or two of Ottawa? Montreal is possibility as well, I can come home that way.
Bob
Hi,
I was concerned when you said that Paradigm is dropping the Active line. I was actually waiting for my local dealer to get them in so can audition them. So, I told him that they might discontinue them so he immediately called Paradigm for me. According to him they said they have no...
I have relatives I visit in Canada and was wondering if it is worth buying Canadian made audio products while I am there? Also, if anyone knows what does the following items go for in Candian dollars.
Bryston SP-1
Anthem AVM2
Antehm AVM20
Paradigm Active 40's pair
Paradign Active Center...
Wow! You responded very quickly, Tom. Thank you for responding.
Reference levels for DVD? Occasionaly, depends on movie/ music.
Velodyne Subs? I get to listen to the HGS-18 frequently as my friend has one. It has great LF output and can really rumble a room. Great for HT and organ music...
Tom I'm going to direct this post to you as I feel you have been honest answering other users on this forum and I'm sure you would reply anyway. I would appreciate everyone's opinion.
I am considering an SVS subwoofer system. I am currently in the design process of our new home. My...
Hi Greg
Thanks again. The MC-12 is nice but price was a factor. If I got it I would definitely be eating to other areas of my planned system. My friend has the MC-1 and I get to play with that one frequently. It is a great unit. I hear Lexicon has a great upgrade policy as well. In fact my...
Hi Randy,
Thanks for your reply. I'll keep you in mind if I decide to go with the Lexicon MC-12. So far though I'm leaning toward the Bryston for various reasons.
Bob
Hi Mike,
I listened to the M&K S-150P already and like you didn't go low enough for me. If HT was my only love I'd consider them. I was thinking about using Active 40 for the center as well. I haven't been to the paradigm dealer yet so I am not sure if they are only sold in pairs. I didn't...
Hi Greg,
Thanks for all your responses. I didn't think there was much difference in the actual driver designs between monitors and speakers.
I was curious what you use as a preamp? I am considering the Bryston SP-1. I've also looked at the lexicon, integra research and sunfire. I...
BTW Greg, I am considering your exact system. I can't wait to audition it at the dealer. I am also going to try the ADP surrounds and various subwoofers as well.
Thank you Randy and Greg! I use JBL 6208's for my keyboard and like the sound. I mentioned on this board previously the thought of using recording monitors for HT and the general consensus was that I shouldn't. Stating that it would sound worse because they are designed as near field monitors...
Does anyone have any experience with the active 40's? How about any other powered speaker for HT? The only other company that I know of that makes powered speakers for HT is Genelec. Is there other manufacturers? I plan to audition both Paradigm and Genelec soon.
Bryston Powerpacs and ?(so...
I have the T70 system and enjoy it very much. It is a great system for a small room and definitely the best I found in the price range when I bought it. Here are my opinions of the plus and minuses of it.
Plus:
1. Fantastic theater sound.
2. Great imaging.
3. Excellent WAF.
4. Center...
Hi Brian,
Thank you for your post. I appreciate your experience. I am very curious about the powered monitors. I have been experimenting with my JBL 6208's in place of my main speakers. They do sound good but it is an apple and oranges comparison. My mains are Infinity RS-IIB's so I didn't...
I also considered the Integra Research RDC-7 but preferred the Bryston for simplicity and adjustable crossover. I also looked at the PMC AML1 but it is getting out of price range at 5G a pair and I would need 3 pair. I couldn't find a dealer to sell me just one.
I am in the design process of...
