DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Chariots of Fire - Two Disc Special Edition (RECOMMENDED)

Thank you for an excellent review Walter. Hopefully this is the same good transfer that we will get in Region 4. Ages ago (nearly 4 years!) I posted a message about some missing dialog in the R2 cut of CoF http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htfo...threadid=16779 Just out of interest, is...

Small sound glitch on R4 Monsters Inc. ?

Has anyone else noticed that when the monster with seven fingers does the count-down on the scare floor, his mouth says "one" but there is no corresponding voice?

Anyone know if the 3 Herbie DVDs,(due May 4, 2004) will be WS or not?

Just out of interest - when the 4 disc Herbie set was released here in R4, only The Love Bug was widescreen. The three sequels were full screen. However, since R1 generally gets better treatment and since the releases are separate, I do hope you will get WS transfers!

Question for owners of the R2 Carlton release of "The Prisoner"

Hello, The Prisoner has finally been released in Australia and I have just finished watching all the episodes. While the series itself is amazing, the DVD transfer isn't quite as top notch. The video does suffer from pixelation, but the question I would like to ask is about audio synch...

    DVD-Basen is down (for good?!)

Mark and Ole, I can't thank you enough! As a R4 resident who buys regularly from R1 and R2, it was a terrible blow to see the excellent DVD Basen go down. Thanks so much for coming back on-line, and very best wishes for the site's future.

    Sony kv27fs13 Problems Help!

Regarding the popping: Wegas have an automatic degausse coil built in. However, this should only activate when the set is switched on from the mains, in other words you should hear a "bong" as it powers up. If it is going off while you watching a programme, causing the picture to flicker, this...

Prokofiev "borrowed" in Land Before Time soundtrack?

I was watching The Land Before Time (first one in the series) with the family for the first time a few days ago. During the opening underwater scene, I was surprised to hear a section of music almost identical to the balcony scene from Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet. While the main theme had a...

Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker and Harp Music Recommendations

Hello Lin, This version on Deutsche Grammophon with the Berlin Philharmonic under Rostropovich is a winner. It also includes the Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake suites. For myself, I own the complete ballet performed by the Royal Philharmonic under Ashkenazy. Kind regards, Nicole P.

Q: Frame width in widescreen Wonka?

Q: Frame width in widescreen Wonka?

Hello, Here in Australia we have the older 1.78 anamorphic PAL release of Wonka and the new 4:3 NTSC release. The new release is said to be open matte so I have just compared it against the PAL release. I think it is really a combination of open matte and pan and scan. Most of the shots do...

Where to find old Peter and the Wolf on vinyl?

Hello Ernest, The recording won the 1959 Grammy for Best Recording for Children. It was on the Angel label with Peter Ustinov narrating and Herbert Von Karajan conducting the Philharmonia Orchestra. Sadly it disappeared from the catalogue and was not issued on silver disc, but if you do a...

R4 Wonka vs new WS R1 release

Darren, Thanks for the links. I have used those sites extensively in the past. What I was interested in is whether a new transfer has been mastered since the R4 release and whether this is the print used for the new R1 release. Cheers, Nicole P. ------------------ "So where does the...

R4 Wonka vs new WS R1 release

I have been watching with interest the R1 Wonka uproar and am delighted that fellow OAR enthusiasts succeeded in getting Warner to release a widescreen edition. I picked up my R4 copy in June last year and it is a 1.78 anamorphic PAL transfer. Recently Warner released the P&S NTSC 30th...

Warner Australia churning out MORE NTSC DVDs to the Australien PAL DVD Market!

Roland, It may probably the cost factor involved. Many R1 releases are also coded R4 for South America. It probably is cheaper for Warner to distribute these releases to Australia rather than remastering a PAL version. It also gives the appearance of reducing the time between regional...

    Picture alignment, Sony KV-27S46

Brett, RTCO is the one you want. Here is a post at the Sony Wega user group that confirms it. If you cannot find this option, perhaps your model has a different service menu listing. What is the model number of your TV? Cheers, Nicole P. ------------------ "So where does the power come...

Vertical band on tv - looks a bit like raster ringing?

Andrew, "It's a Sony" :-) At the moment I am using it solely for DVD. I shall try hooking it up to something else to see if the band appears again. Is your set's "ghost line" visible on all sources? Cheers, Nicole P

Vertical band on tv - looks a bit like raster ringing?

There is a vertical band in the exact centre of my direct view tv that appears slightly darker than the rest of the screen. The effect is very similar to raster ringing except that this is one band in the middle rather than several bands on the left. This band is only visible when a light...

HTF REVIEW: "Fiddler On The Roof" SE: First time viewing

Fiddler was the first disc in my collection too. Seeing it for the first time in widescreen glory got me hooked on to DVD. In my opinion, it is the best musical. It has an honesty about it that other musicals, while great in their own right, tend to lack. Perhaps it has something to do with the...

Disappointed with Pride and Prejudice SE

I bought the R2 edition when it first came out. From what I hear, the new R1 edition is just an NTSC transfer of the same print. Yes, the colours are not very constant, looking either washed out for outdoor shots or overly yellow for interiors. I think this is due to the deterioration of the...

And you thought the Ben Hur DVD aspect ratio was correct?

Obviously, I missed the original discussion and found the links above very interesting. I have several versions of the letterboxed Ben-Hur including the DVD. There have always been one or two scenes that I thought were tightly cropped on the sides even allowing for overscan etc. Now all is...

Could thin vertical off-colored lines be color purity problem??

Hello Jason, I am about to buy a Wega for the first time and consequently, have been haunting the Yahoo Sony Wega user group for a while. The problem that you are experiencing is apparently wide-spread. Some people encounter pink bands rather than green bands. Here is one post that seems to...
