I found that DD track on the original release of BHD somewhat lacking in the LFE department. Gunfire and explosions sounded hollow to me compared to Saving Private Ryan or even the Matrix... I'm hoping the new DTS track will rectify this...
Yeah I had to have My 50" Tosh RPTV taken out for repairs a year ago, they had to hire a moving truck and two big guys to do it! The repairs took a whole month (!) due to incompetence in ordering in parts, plus they seemed disgruntled in having to do warranty repair (maybe they get paid less...
I also recommend one from the PC+ line, probably a 20-39 (or two!) as it can go louder than the 16-46 since you have a fairly large room, or wait for the PB2+ to come out. Either one will be more than enough for you! -Vince
Hey I got my new PC plus 20-39 earlier today too! WOW, what an awesome piece! I totally kills my old paradigm pw-2200 in both SPLs and accuracy. In contrast my pw2200 sounds like a sloppy midrange driver compared to my new SVS (and I'm not exaggerating!). I've tried it with music and movies (the...
From Cnn.com
"A glimpse of a jumper was briefly shown on CBS last September 11, and the network quickly admitted it was a mistake. CBS' "9-11" documentary, which will be repeated September 8, contained the disturbing sounds of bodies upon impact but no accompanying video. More graphic footage...
Awesome stuff, pretty reasonable price too. But you know, I haven't even seen a single box of the first season ANYWHERE in a Canadian brick-and-mortar store.. wierd. -V
Blair, Anthem makes good amps, and they're a Canuck brand too, to boot! You might also want to check out Rotel, and Parasound, which are also popular here. What type of speakers do you have?
I hear hiss about 8 feet away with my 950, but only when using an analog input, or a digital input with nothing connected to it (or powered down). I have Paradigm active/40's for mains, and using my old Yammie 495 receiver for the other channels. I hear hiss from the actives more than the other...
Got mine yesterday! It was shipped to Winnipeg. I placed my reservation Dec 13. Got hit by UPS and customs for a total of 265.62.
On the plus side, the 950 sure sounds fine!
Thx for the info Brian,
I'm mostly interested in just reducing the brightness of the room.. I have no desire to reduce the low frequencies, or even the midrange (in fact the midrange is a bit thin, so hopefully reducing the high frequencies will bring out the midrange)..
What would you...
Hi All,
I've been looking at getting some Profoam to tame the excessive brightness in my room due to wood panelling on the walls. I've been conidering buying from AudioAdvisor but they sell a "level two" version of the profoam which is confusing me since RPG inc. doesn't mention a level two...
I thought they weren't going to call anyone, just send notices via email (they said they were going to do this in their last newsletter).
Anyways, I called their 1866outlaws number and the lady I talked with told me that they would send out notices via email and that we would order online via...
I tend to find that the anthems make the paradigm refs sound 'bright'. I also own a pair of active/40's and I find that they tend to be slightly bright too, especially when listening to pop music.
If your room has mostly hard surfaces, I would recommend an amp that rolls off the upper...
Robert, John, Gene,
Thanks for your glowing reviews of the 950. I've been one of the few people who still hung on and resisted buying the Anthem. A question for you: how do the 950's DAC sound on two channel music? I know many audio philes use the DAC's on their high end CD players but I...
Robert,
On your review you said that "CD's, from SACD's, from DVD's, from LD's, etc. took on new life when processed through the 950"
When you were testing the CD sound performance, were you using the internal DAC's of the 950 or the DAC's of the CD player? If so, have you compared how the...
Ooops, I did mean the 'speaker level' setting, I had mistakenly thought this to be the same as 'gain', as that's what my dealer called that dial anyways..
I have a set of Active/40's too by the way :emoji_thumbsup:
Here's a question for fellow Paradigm Active owners:
How have you set your gain settings on your amp and processor/receiver? I have the gain dial behind the speaker set to max and the volume on my preamp set low. Is this the correct setting I should be using?
Yamaha 1200/2200/3200
-Fixed 90 Hz crossover
-No way to activate "processor direct" from the remote
-Now that DD-EX is a standalone format, they still insist on using their proprietary "DD-Matrix 6.1" which does not sound exactly like the real thing
-No memorization of channel levels...
I wish I knew if it was the processor or the amp section that was causing the brightness / midrange harshness. If it was the processor section then investing in a warmer external amp should solve the problem.. but I don't know... Anyone have experience with yammies hooked to external amps??
I am considering the newer Yamahas for a new receiver and I'm wondering what is it about the midrange that is bothering you guys? Do you find it too thin or too heavy?
I currently have an older rxv496 and I find it very bright sounding. I'm hoping that the newer models are less bright.
I'm considering upgrading my low-end AudioStream A-400 interconnects between my pre-amp and Active/40's to something like the Tara Labs Prism 5500i or the RSC Axiom interconnects.. has anyone here had positive or negative experiences with these cables?
Is there a difference in sound quality between the 1200, 2200, and soon-to-be 3200 besides a small increase in power?
How about if I were to use them as pre-pro's? Since the DSP chip is the same in all three units, I would expect that the three units would sound identical... has anyone...
