I'm doing just that. :)
The DVD-player outputs both at the same time and you have to choose on the receiver which connection is used for what.
I have connected the player exactly like you described. Coax-DVD input. Optical-CD input.
I have:
Denon DVD-2800
Denon AVR-3801
I can recommend you save some more and get the CDM7-NTs!!! You wouldhave to buy stands for the CDM1s anyway which would bring the price closer to the CDm7s.
I have a pair of CDM7-NTs and I couldn't be more satisfied with them. I used a tone-generator to test bass-performance at low frequencies...
I was very interested in the Avantek nine, but after seeing them yesterday, no. They're butt-ugly IMO. :) The Avantek six and five are much prettier. The reason for this is the backside, which is very wide (even wider than the baffle) on the nine and narrow on the six. You'll know what I mean...
Thanks.
I showed her the MISSION FS2AV package with white NXT-speakers (easy to hide). I also recommended a Denon AVR-1801 which is on sale in a nearby store. She didn't object. :)
I didn't find any Energy Take 5.2 but I found Take 5.1. We will probably go have a look tomorrow.
My mother insists of getting a BOSE-system. I've tried to convince her to buy a Mission M71-based surround system instead, but she refuses to listen. I told her that there has to be other sattelite/sub-systems out there which are better that BOSE for the same amount of money.
I don't know...
I got a nice little painting. It's an original signed print. It's the only gift which will go to the HT.
I also got:
Four sweaters
Two pair of pants
Five pieces of underwear (winter and summer)
A steam-boiler
A thermo-bowl (for keeping food hot)
++ lots of small gifts which I haven't...
Neighbours in
Music: 30-40
Movies: 25-40
Neighbours out
Music: 20-30
Movies: 15-25
Any more than 15 and it's too loud for me. I haven't calibrated my speakers with a SPL. The rear speakers are set to -3db by listening.
Fronts: B&W CDM7-NT
Rears: Mission M72
Receiver: Denon...
Doug.
The problem of a good overall flat bass response with speakers in four corners would be a problem with music as the same sounds are being played at the sam time verywhere. :) But not with movies because different sounds will be played through each speaker. Or something. :)

Jeremy!
I WAS reading! I didn't say anything about the shielding, I just commented on the directional conductor subject.
Actually, grounding in only one end scares me a little. This means that the signal may actually have extreme voltages when reaching the receiving end, because of differences...
I totally agree with brucek.
Every time a "directional-cable discussion" comes along I try to convince people that both analogue audio and video signals are AC (alternating current).
Don't be fooled by marketing and "this guy who owns this cable-manufacturing company says that this is better"...
Are you sure the disc you saw wasn't a DVD-video disc? DVD-audio is NOT the same as DD.

That's very nice and tasteful, Jeffrey! The colors match well.
It's nice to hear you were inspired by my page. :) I'll see if I can find the time to add more text to my page this weekend. :)

I've had two DVD-2800s. One old unit which I borrowed from the store for a few months because they didn't have any new ones, and the new one I have now. The old unit was a january player and had more problems than a 30 year old Fiat, including the powersupply-interference. It had firmware 5208...
With the Denon DVD-2800 you have an on-screen menu where you navigate through the different directories on the disc. Looks a bit like a low-resolution explorer clone. :)
It will play all bitrate MP3s but anything above 128k will bee reduced to 128k to ensure the quality isn't too close to the...
You did run the 3802 in "DIRECT", right, and not with any tone control or DSP?
Just checking. :)
Sorry.

I don't know. :)
Maybe they have recorded subsonic (is it correct to call it that?) sounds in real-life events and want to reproduce those events properly and bring the atmosphere home. :) I don't know.

Maybe the different measurements are because some are US-units and the others are EURO-units. They need to have different transformers, you know, 220V in europe versus 110V in USA. Still, a big gap. The swedish magazine "Hemmabio" measured the 3801 to 7*110W 8 ohms. Thats ALL channels loaded...
Because a 15Hz tone is more "quaky" (like in earthquake) :) than a 30Hz tone which is more of a humm. A 15Hz tone give atmosphere and a sense of power, you can't hear it but it's there and you feel it.
I guess. :)

The best is to burn all the files in the root directory of the CD. My DVD-2800 manual says that I should burn with the "ISO09660 level 1" standard.

I have a couple of Mission M72 for surrounds and they're very good for the money. I tried them as stereo-speakers yesterday and they sound extremely good with very good treble and mids. They go lower than any standmounts I have heard before. The bass wasn't as clean on my B&W CDM7-NTs but that's...
This is what happened with my setup as well. I only have two surround speakers but wanted to try it. As the sound was supposed to be played through the back surround speakers I could also hear a faint sound from the surrounds. I guess this is because the back surround signal is coded into the...
Very nice setup. I love those speakers! Check out my picture below!

Breaking in speakers simply involves playing them normally. It can take between 30-100 hours of playing for the speakers to be broken in. You have nothing to worry about. This process happens automatically when you use them, It's actually impossible to not break them in. :)

Try Bjørk Vspertine track 8. It has some low 20s sounds. The Telegram album, track 10 has even lower bass, probably 20Hz. The Gorillaz album has some really low sounds. Track 7 begins with some about 30Hz sounds. Many other tracks on the Gorillaz album has short bursts of low frequencies. You...

Parallel-connecting two speakers doesn't raise the impedance, it lowers it. Two 8 ohm speakers in parallel will load the amp with 4 ohm. :)
