My latest addition and EQ rebuild with all surface mount resistors and SoniCaps (input and EQ filter paths) and Solen capacitors (because I had them and were begging for a reuse). It’s configured for True Balanced single channel operation.
My advice. Get a pair of Series 1 or Series 2 Speakers...
I haven't posted in a very long time but I've been a member since Oct. 2001 ! I the last year I got rid of my cones and domes Homebrew and experimented with Bose. Honestly, I would never pay retail for a pair of 901's but I got a bargain last year on a pair ($350 - cabinets were shot). After...
Frequency Response with C weighting. See how everything falls off as designed at 15kHz ? Also notice the rise on Bass and Treble frequencies. Passband is flat as expected.
PS Audio Stellar Stack. Stellar Gain Cell DAC/Preamp and two m700 amplifiers rated @ 350W each. Perfect for the power robbing Bose EQ. I can easily hit 40Hz tones with no attenuation and steady down to 30Hz where it waterfalls quickly. That's where the F1 takes over.
Bose F1 Subwoofer that with in room gain will reproduce a 20Hz tone with just a bit of attenuation. Being that we live in a apartment, it's overkill but ready for action when we move into a real house one day.
I totally reworked Series 2 EQ that I replaced ALL components on. 1% Vishay Metal Film Resistors 1W - 3W. All SoniCaps in the audio signal paths. Vishay made in USA low ESR 100uF Capacitors, KEMET super low ESR 475uF Capacitors in the 20VDC, 18VDC, & 16VDC power rails. A Toroidal Transformer...
My Resto-Modded 1968 Bose 901's. Internally, all original wiring is original. Upgraded with 4 way Gold Binding Posts and AudioQuest Rocket 33 Speaker Wire
I've recently been told by my wife to move my HT from one room to another and had to change my Surround Speaker locations. In the old room, they were hung off of the L & R walls, just behind the seating area. I've never like the surround speakers "in my face" (so to speak), Whether the speakers...
I'll be honest will all of you. I have DTV Antenna's on two tripod's on my roof for HDTV OTA. We haven't had had cable or satellite in 5 years due to the crappy content available here in Canada. My wife enjoy's her Univision, Telemundo, and misses the Latino Max package we had with Dish Network...
Blu Ray is not dead up here in Canada. Wal Mart continues to discount new releases once they've been out for over a month. Now that Blu Ray Audio Discs have been released by Universal, we still have Hi Res Audio out there in droves. Downloads are convenient but can be a royal pain as well...
Sony BDP-S550, Pioneer DV-578-A, Denon AVR-1802, & Adcom GFA-555II. Not shown is my HTPC with 2TB Hard Drive, 4GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD5450 Video Card, & Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum Audio Card.
2 x 10" Rockford Fosgate ported boxes that I built. While they don't reach the lower depths of my extremities. They do provide enough bass in the room but one can never have have enough (bass that it !).
Powered by a Jensen Car Amp with a 12Vdc/15A Brick.
My Left & Right Homebrew Towers. 5.25 Polk Audio Lower Bass drivers taken from a pair of Polk R10's from a previous system of mine. The Midbass drivers are Peerless. Tweeters again are the same Peerless units as seen in the center channel speaker.
Homebrew 2.5 way Center Channel. Peerless Tweeter, 5.25" Audax Aerogel for the midbass driver, & Audax 5.25" Kevlar for lower bass driver.
Out with the old & reliable yet fuzzy 53" SonyRPTV, and in with my brand new 60" LG Plasma. Had to build a false wall where the old Sony RPTV was and use French Cleats in order to cleanly hang the new TV.
Love that sub Brandon. I agree, keep all that classic amplification and eq and invest in a decent HT preamp. My 20 year old Adcom GFA-555II has been through many setups but it will always remain a constant in my system.
I just scrolled to the top of this page. That's a beautiful view of the mountians and tree's in winter but its not my Home Theater. Yes, I do have a forest but not a beautiful view like the one of my "Theater".
Rebuilt my speaker towers. Removed the modified POLK R10's off the top and refinished the cabinets with solid wood oak flooring tiles (pics coming soon). Built 2 ported forward firing subwoofer cabinets for the Rockford Fosgate subs located in each front corner of the room (also refinished with...
Home Theatre No. 3 is complete and is just awaiting some sound absorption panels (room is a bit too "live" for my taste). see pic & link.
