I am going to use these out by my deck and power them with my "B" switch of my Onkyo 595. Does anyone own (or have heard) these speakers? They list for $329 and I got 'em for $249 at J and R Music. Thanks.
I am looking for outdoor speakers to be powered by the "B" switch of my Onkyo receiver 595. I am leaning towards the NHT Outdoor Ones which I can get for about $230 a pair. I like the 6" woofer on these. The issue is the nominal impedance. See this (from Crutchfield):

Hello. I was hoping to get some assistance in installing a couple of speakers out by my deck. I have an Onkyo 595 receiver that I can use the "B" switch for the outdoor speakers. This will be a spring project for sure!

Hello. I am going to put up a pair of outdoor speakers above my deck. I am going to power them with an Onkyo 595 receiver, using the "B" switch. I live in NJ so the winters can be harsh, though I would probably take them down after October or so.
Here are the three choices:
NHT Outdoor...

Hello all. I am VERY happy with my current system, but my end of year bonus will be in my paycheck shortly (the wife doesn't know!), and I wanted to see if there was anything else that I should be buying.
My current system:
Mitsubishi 35" TV
Onkyo 595 receiver
Polk RM6600 home theater...
We just purchased Grinch, Shrek, and Chicken Run on DVD for my daughter. All have DTS and DD. My HT system is both DD and DTS compatible. I have always leaned towards DTS if given the choice (see The Haunting on DTS!). Does anyone have any thoughts on this subject?
Thanks.
I am relatively new to HT and have an Onkyo 595 with the Poly RM6600 surrounds and Polk 350 sub. The system sounds terrific like it is, but everyone I talk to recommends getting a Radio Shack SPL meter and Avia Guide to Home Theater. Both seem relatively inexpensive for assuring that my HT...
Hello. I am looking to buy the Avia DVD to calibrate my HT system. I am looking to purchase at J and R, which I have found very reputable. They have the version:
DVD (AVIA GUIDE TO HOME THEATER / REFERENCE GUIDE - Rated NR) , Time: N/A mins.
DVD sides: 1 Features: N/A Screen: N/A...
I live in the North Jersey area and am leaning towards Dish over Direct TV. I will not have any sports packages (except maybe the Golf Channel), but I want HBO and local channels. I have a HT system, so I would like to get Dolby Digital 5.1 broadcasts. We do not have a HD TV. I have a cable...
I hope this is not too dumb a question. I have a new HT setup that includes an Onkyo 595 receiver and a Pioneer C503 DVD player. Both decode DTS and I am running a 5.1 Polk speaker/subwoofer system.
The question is regarding DTS-ES DVD's, which I understand are geared for a 6.1 speaker...
One qustion regarding DTS ES (6.1). I have a 5.1 set up. Will the DTS ES sound as good as "regular" 5.1 DTS? If this is a stupid question, I apologize, as I am pretty new to HT. Thanks.
I am looking to increase my DVD collection (see other psoting today). I have an Onkyo 595 receiver that has the DTS encoding. What DVD's are at the top of your list that have DTS? Thanks.
I am thinking of joining one. I received some info from Columbia House. Are there any others? I remember joining BMG a few years back for cassettes, are they still around? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Have you tried J & R Music (JandRMusic.com)? I bought mine there for $359 + $22 or so shipping. They may quote you a higher price, but mention that you saw the $359 on this forum. They will match.
They are also an authorized Onkyo Dealer. This helps in case you ever need to utilize the...
I saw BOB again last night, terrific show even in light of the recent tragedies. My question is the Dolby Digital that it was supposed to be broadcast in (it did say "where available"). I had my HT up and running (Onkyo 595) and I was not able to get the DD signal. I flipped around from Dolby...
I just purchased an Onkyo TX-DS595 and have been very happy overall with it. I have a 5.1 home theater setup with Polk RM 6600 speakers. The only issue I have is that in my (newbie) opinion, when I am watching TV or listening to the FM radio, all channel stereo actually sounds better than...
Any suggestions on a couple of outdoor speakers for my deck? I will hook them up to my "B" switch on my Onkyo 595 receiver. I was looking at Polk, Boston Accoustics, and Bose. Any suggestions? Also how tough is it to run wire outside, can I use the same 12 gauge speaker wire that I bought at...
This is an interesting debate. I currently have an Optical connection to my Pioneer DVD player, but there is also a Coax hookup. Which do you prefer and why?
Thanks.
Mike D,
You answered my question perfectly. I do hook the DVD directly to the receiver. Therefore when I choose DVD on the 595 I will get audio optically right from the DVD.
My questions are becoming fewer and fewer...

Thanks for the Radio Shack info. I am going to buy one and give it a try. This will enable me to utilize the S Video for my DVD now that everything is S Video compatible. As far as my audio question, my TV has picture and picture (not 2 tuner). How will this impact how I set my coaxial...
I just installed an Onkyo 595 receiver, Pioneer DVD player, cable box, Mistubishi 35" TV, and Panasonic VCR. Here are my dilemmas:
The Mitsubishi is an OLD TV with only two inputs (TV and cable). When I first hooked up the system I used S Videos for the DVD to the receiver and then the TV to...
I saw this at Crutchfield for $49.95 (which means I can get it MUCH cheaper somewhere else!). I am a HT newbie and am awaiting delivery of my new receiver and speakers. I'm just looking for anyone that has used this or similar. Does this DVD really help in the setup? Do the test tones also...
I have the Polk RM6600, pretty small surrounds, but heavy. I don't want big bulky stands, but rather have the stands "blend in" to the room. I want the cords to run up through the stand, and probably metal is better, but I want something that won't tip over, and made well. An adjustable stand...
Thanks to everyone who helps make this site awesome for a HT newbie like me. After much research and mulling over, I just bought the following to go with my 35" Mitsubishi TV:
Onkyo DS595 receiver: J and R, $359.99 (talked them down from $399.99 regular price...mentioned hometheaterforum.com &...
