Win a Denon X5200W 9.2 channel Dolby Atmos AVR with a copy of Insurgent on Blu-ray!

I'm still running 5.1 and I'm in the market for a new HT receiver. My son has gotten pretty good at installing speakers in the ceiling, too. It sounds to me like it is the perfect time to win this Denon and replace the old Denon!

The great thing here was Philip bothering to even read my PM. I found his old ad using Google. Since there were no replies in his "thread" I sent him the PM and the rest is internet history.

Recommend wall paint to display projector image?

My brother-in-law has opened a nightclub recently. He installed a projector expressly for showing a BIG picture for Monday Night Football. I've been told that there are paints made specifically for making the most out an image projected on the wall. Can anyone recommend a paint/color/? The...

    $600 Budget System

I like this advice. I prefer 2 decent speakers playing STEREO over 5 cheap speakers trying to slog through surround. Any decent surround receiver will have a stereo option, or an old 2-channel amp/receiver could be used as an interim choice. BTW, I suggest you buy 5 identical speakers for...

    Upconvert DVD Recorders; info needed.

My personal experience is limited to players that upconvert to 1080i only. There is a noticeable improvement using my low-level Toshiba HD-DVD player to play DVD's. My equipment requires that I use an HDMI to DVI cable for this connection. I felt that my Zenith upconverting DVD player offered...

Axiom Audio / HTF Audiobyte Computer Speaker Contest

Parker Clack asked: "What would guys us this more on games, music or movies on your PC?" My PC is used for music and the occasional movie. The gamers I've met tend to prefer multichannel set-ups. 2.1 is just fine by me. :)

Axiom Audio / HTF Audiobyte Computer Speaker Contest

I am now into year 5 with my Dell 400SC Poweredge server, upgraded and modified. I'm running XP Pro and a 3.4 ghz Northwood Pentium 4 CPU. These bottom of the line servers were sold dirt cheap and turned out to bear a striking resemblance to the Dimension 8300 desktops. Mine has an M-Audio 2496...

For Sale: ATI AT3005 120V Amplifier (NEW)

One last bump. One seller on eBay currently has this amp for $2500. Again, mine is literally still sealed in the factory box! THIS IS NEW. These amps are built like tanks, and they sound great. Local pickup recommended. Melbourne, FL area.

For Sale: ATI AT3005 120V Amplifier (NEW)

I suspect most HTF members know these things but I'll mention them anyway. :) ATI is designed and built in the USA. The company is from the same folks that brought you SAE back in the day. ATI also builds high-end products for Crestron, Outlaw, Adcom, Sim Audio and others. This amp can be the...

    Newbie question????

It looks like 2 of your JL subs will go well in a 4.4 cu ft box with a 4 inch port 8 inches long. Running two 8 ohm subs in parallel gives a 4 ohm load to your amp; this is usually OK with plate amps but check the specs. BTW, there is no reason you have to use a plate amp. A mono amp that will...

Upgrading speakers and keep the mellow highs

I recommend an amp and quality coaxials. One of the tricky parts of such an upgrade is finding a place to put crossovers. Better quality coax's tend to need more power and tend to have outboard crossovers; they are much like component sets. I've had good luck with the Eclipse Compund Tweeter...

Ideal sealed box for Dayton DVC12???

I've used DVC 12's in cars using a sealed 1.2 cu ft box and liked what I got. I have one now in a 2 cu ft sealed box that is part of a secondary music system (in the house) and I like it, too. It does not do the very low "brown tone" that folks look for in a home theater sub unless the box is...

    Bridge-able amps and tri-mode?

The lack of adjustability (i.e. crossover point, slope, and level) makes tri-mode a curiosity at best. Spend a couple of dollars more and buy a 4 channel amp with a built-in crossover, for example.

    Polarity Question for replacement speakers

Sounds like you got them wired out of phase. If there are no front speakers, simply change the leads on ONE of the 6X9's. (This will get the 6X9's in phase regardless, but the two may be out of phase with any existing front speakers.) Don's predicament is a reminder why it is recommended to buy...

    factory speaker wires

I recommend that you buy adapter harnesses for your head unit as well as the factory speaker wiring. The stuff you need should be available from your local Best Buy/Circuit City/ car audio emporium. You don't cut anything, you're sure it's hooked up right, and it is easy. ;)

Two novice-type questions about front door speaker replacement

It might be smart to make certain the JBL system uses 4 ohm speakers. Bose and the Chrysler Infinity systems both use oddball-impedance speakers making simple replacement, er, not so simple. ;) I suspect the Crutchfield advisors could help with this question.

    Extending wire

I assume you are talking about the power lead. (?) If that is the case, I have seen adapters sold to do exactly what you want. Just make sure you insulate the "splice" carefully.
