    HD DVD Anamorphic?

There is no anamorphic. The native AR for an HD frame is already 16:9. Anamorphic on DVD was used because HDTVs were 16:9 while the DVD frame AR is only 4:3.

First BD titles under scrutiny: The Fifth Element and others

The analogy here doesn’t equate. The reason why a newer ATRAC (or any other lossy encoder) can have benefits is that they use perceptional encoding to try and remove information that you theoretically can’t hear. As newer algorithms improve upon this, you reap the benefits. The data is in the...

Is there a site that lists all Anamorphic Widescreen DVDs?

Not a specific anamorphic list, but the downloadable files do have that info for each disc. http://www.hometheaterinfo.com/dvdlists.htm

    The bridges of Madison County

As a (sad) side note, I saw a show on PBS about covered bridges the other day. The covered bridge featured in that film fell victim to arson and no longer exists.

Iomega Moves Forward With Plans for Developing a +800GB DVD (AO-DVD)

I agree with Jeff, Iomega is notorious for poor quality. When Zip drives stopped selling, they started making CD-R drives. They got the worst reviews. So, No thanks.

    a superior popcorn experience

When I was was a kid, we grew it in our garden. I've never seen it in the greocery store (unfortuantely).

    Singles Night at Wal-Mart

A couple of times, I needed something on a Saturday evening and headed to Walmart. It's the happening place for rednecks. All the bubbas were hanging out at the cafe. I got out of there as fast as I could :D

    a superior popcorn experience

Stronger hulls? No thanks, I hate the hulls getting stuck in my teeth way more than unpopped kernels. I would vote for hull-less popcorn any day (it does exist.)

    HD-DVD/Blu-Ray Merger Possible?

YES THEY HAVE!! The HD DVD is limited to a single DVD layer under the HD DVD layer, but they can be dual sided, dual layer since the physical strucure of the discs is the same. Blu-ray can have a dual layer DVD under the BD layer. http://news.com.com/JVC+previews+Blu...3-5506834.html...

    HD-DVD/Blu-Ray Merger Possible?

Nils, When did Fox announce they would release Blu-ray discs? Yes, they joined the Blu-ray group but they also belong to the DVD Forum. But unless something has changed recently, they have not announced they would release Blu-ray discs.

I received the e-mail 1 week ago. It still hasn't arrived. Most are reporting receiving it 1 to 2 days after the e-mail. I'm starting to worry.

Digital Bits Reports: APPLE joins Blu-Ray. Brace yourself for a format war!

What would be really great is if Apple makes an HTPC. I mean a full blown one, not some half-baked one. Tray loading drive (those crappy slot loading drives have GOT to go) HDMI out (supporting 720p, 1080i, and 1080p) Firewire w/ copy protection support for video AND audio Coaxial AND...

please help me find 2 styx cd's... (UPDATED: Albums now available!)

I just got this 2 disk set. I did some initial comparisons and I haven’t yet determined if it is better than 4 previous CDs, but it is different. I first tried some songs from MOM since I consider it the best of the four. The new version is quite a bit louder. This makes it difficult to...

Poll: Reason for the rise in autism spectrum

I believe that the vaccination an diet of the child are totally out the window. It is clearly a brain development issue. The reason that “it manifested after a certain vaccination” is merely coincidence. When and how it manifests depends on what areas of the brain have atypical development...

please help me find 2 styx cd's... (UPDATED: Albums now available!)

Thanks for the tip. I will have to get this set. I already have the 4 CDs but this set has an extra track that appeared in an early 80's reissue of Man Of Miracles called just Miracles. The track Unfinished Song replaced the track Lies. I am hoping they did a better transfer and the audio...

Not entirely, the studios boycotted DAT. They never released any material on it.

Curious about HD-DVD and Blu-Ray? Well wait until you hear about HVD...

They went bankrupt. D Data Inc, bought the IP from them and is trying to pick up the pieces. http://www.ddatainc.com/page01.html Another company is working on the same basic technology. http://www.nmen.net/1.html

Curious about HD-DVD and Blu-Ray? Well wait until you hear about HVD...

If you think the studios are going to release content at 4K, think again. We will be lucky to get 1080p from them for HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. It will be 1080i or 720p. There is a lot of great technology that never made it. I can see HDV as a archiving format, but it will be a long time, if ever...

I don't see why anybody is suppourting Dual-y Disc!

I agree with Kris on this one. Video and Audio, can't compare them. Most people are more concerned with video quality than audio quality (I don't fall into that category BTW). Also, on the D-Theater issue. Tape is history. The format will never take off. What will really deter hi-def DVD...

I don't see why anybody is suppourting Dual-y Disc!

The reason I heard was, they tried a dual layer disc, but since DVD players weren't designed to handle a disc that had a CD and DVD layer on the same side, many players would get confused and the disc wouldn't play.

I don't see why anybody is suppourting Dual-y Disc!

Yes, Dual-Disc was a big mistake. If the DVD Forum had ANY insight at all or cared at all what the consumer wants, they would have made the DVD spec CD compatible like SACD did. This stupid backtracking to cover their @$$ with a "CD" layer that isn't even compliant with the spec is sooo lame...

    Who flosses?

Sometimes I get enough crud dislodged that rinsing is in order. As you get older, the gums to recede a bit and you get food traps. I also brush my tongue before bed. I use a meduim brush for tongue and soft for teeth.
