Thanks. Aaron. I thought that was what I originally did, but I did not notice any change in level while the display and tone were mismatched. I'll try it again. So at all times you're using the cursor keys (screen 3 of the amp on the TP1), Aaron--right arrow for switching to the "level" receiver...
Thanks. Seth. That's what I did do. I don't understand why Sony ES changed its method for what seems an inconvenient procedure, but at least I know that's the only way to calibrate them now. Thanks again. Gary
I just bought a Sony STR-DA7ES at clearance prices, using it as a pre/pro to replace my aging 9000ES preamplifier, only to find I can find no reasonable way to adjust the surround speaker levels using the test tones. The remote (TP1) has adjustments only for center and sub. There are no screen...
I have a TA-E9000ES preamp and five bi-amped N9000ES's for five years, and now, a pair of Boston back surround speakers in the original boxes. I waited for the (nonexistant) 10ES and now I find the Sony ES line is going completely digital. Perhaps I should take advantage of the low prices for...
Progressive International Corporation makes a butter melter that you place in the microwave and then can either spray or pour onto popcorn. I use this when my wife and I and maybe someone else comes over. You can find them in kitchen stores in major cities. That said, I must say there is...
What about the new DA-9000ES to be introduced in Europe? It too is advertised as a digital amplifier but has 7.1 pre-ous. Follow this thread, including the Word file that has specs on the new amp in a tabular format: http://pub106.ezboard.com/faussiedvd...tart=1&stop=20
I still have the E9000ES and, paired with a P9000ES, I have a good combination. I also have five N9000ES amps--one for a "spare" with two biamped and all others bridged for two-channelsThat said, I've had every piece back for some repair or other. I have one year left on the E9000ES warranty...
The Sony TA-9000ES, a bit long in the tooth, but it too has flexible bass management, including a high cut LFE with its version 2.01 firmware upgrade. Gary
I have a ground loop problem from cable TV line and I've never been able to get rid of it. Passing through one of the Monster Cable inline ports lessened the hum but did not eliminate it; how could it, after all? There's a difference in ground between the house ground and the cable. The power...
Be grateful you don't have a hum. During "warm up"--2 to 3 minutes--the P9000ES produces a hum in all five channels. It subsides after the initial warm-up, though. I'll be sending it back. I've run into about five or six other owners with the same problem. Gary
What happened to SONY's pre/pro market: i.e., a replacement for the E9000ES? I've been waiting for the supposed 10ES pre/pro for some time; my 9000 pre/pro is getting pretty long in the tooth. Has anyone heard anything about a new Sony pre/pro? Gary
I learned the hard way. I passed up the Sam's offer to do some research on pricing before buying. When I returned the next day to the store, the stack was all gone!
The Sam's web site showed the bundle with the standard Rushmore edition, not Criterion's; I finally found one two-pack at K-Mart...
Perhaps it's redundant now, but Sean Cavagaugh sells a high-quality Postcript and True Type font, CombiNumerals DV, which features THX and many home theater logos--all the channel sound logos for dts and Dolby, etc. I helped him do some of the research.
Here's his...
I too am waiting for a new Sony ES DVD player; I have a SACD multichannel player now (SCD-XA777ES) and it is superb, but I want a progressive scan replacement for my 7700. Obviously, the SACD features are of little interest to me; I want a progressive player with better deinterlacing than the...
How do you keep the rope lights running cool, especially since they make contact with the rug? I bought a blue set some time ago--very close in hue to the Sony panel displays--but became concerned with heat dissipated. The enclosed instructions also warned of heat buildup.

I think a DIY job, on a large, front projection screen, would look like just that: a simple animation with jaggies galore. I see what work many put into similar animations and I, for one, don't think I could ever even approximate what they've done. The asking price for the professional version...
I'm interested in the Custom DVD home theater entry disc (www.customHT.com) that provides a visual and audio representation of your theater to guests. I have a CD progrm that's similar, but I'm wondering if any forum mebers have tried the DVD.

What is not mentioned in the two articles is how much the sound floor changes, enough, in my system at least, to take out the Pro Logic receiver. Also, when DD/dts surrounds contain the same signal--a frequent condition--the sound collapses to the back surround.
I'm using the pseudo-6.1 matrix...
Boston Acoustics has a new center rear surround speaker in their VR series. I think it's VR-MX/EX; check ut their home page where they describe their thinking on a rear surround center.

Thanks, Bill. I have a roll of blue tape.
I'm wondering what kind of seamless cardboard I can get for this length, say, 10 feet (wide) by four feet (long). Since this is an experiment, I suppose just taping flatened cartons together is good enough.

I saw them too, and Sam's has the cheapest price of all. I think the product is Sunbeam's.
Be aware that you cannot repair burnt out lights with the Sunbeam product. You can cut at specified intervals, but then you need another cap and another unit. K-Mart sells the Sunbeam rope lights in 12'...
Thanks, Bill and Howard.
I like the flat black cardboard idea; is the tacky putty easily removed, Bill, after I can determine what I need to paint?
Only a portion of one side of the room has fully exposed woodwork. A fireplace hides most of that side while the other, which has just a wood...
I have an HT in a preexisting basement that was used by the previous owner as a recreation room. The plaster-sculptured ceiling conceals a maze of pipes and electrical wires and is only 6' 8" above a carpeted floor, which, in turn, covers a cement base. I have a large projection screen mounted...
Sam's Club has the same lights--Sunbeam's--and a far more reasonable price. I steered away from these rope lights because of the warnings about mounting them on carpet and my steps are carpeted. They do get hot.
I have a problem with reflections off the basement HT ceiling because it is (paint-brushed) sculptured, white, pre-existing, and beloved by my wife. The ceiling is just 6' 8" high and the screen is a Da-Liite "high power," located just a few inches below the ceiling and stretching to a foot...
I've been away for a few days and just read your messages. Thanks for the ideas on a stationery right side curtain; I never considered them before although, now, I'll have another problem with the motor. I don't want to eat into my equipment budget or, er, my alleged equipment budget. I'm going...
