    Pioneer DV-578A

Bought a Panasonic DVD-F87 today, and have been torture testing it with all my DVD-Audio discs. No problems so far, and yes it plays "Greendale" in DVD-Audio mode. I wasn't able to do an A/B comparison, but the sound seems to be fuller than the Pioneer was in DVD-Audio mode. The Panasonic...

    Pioneer DV-578A skipping on DVD-Audio

I'm no longer happy with these Pioneer DV-578A players after purchasing the "Neil Young - Greendale" DVD-Audio disc, which will not playback in DVD-Audio mode. See my posts on page 6 of this thread... http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htfo...0&pagenumber=6

    Pioneer DV-578A

We finally got some newer stock in Ontario, and so now I own a July 2004 (firmware 1.44) model DV-578A. The DVD-Audio disc "Neil Young - Greendale" still will not play in DVD-Audio mode. This disc will playback on other non-Pioneer brand DVD-Audio/Universal players. I've read posts of a...

    Pio DV-563A firmware fix

Anyone get "Neil Young - Greendale" to play in their "firmware fixed" DV-563A? The newer model DV-578A will not play this disc.... and I just tried a newer model manufactured in July 2004 with firmware 1.44. Time to switch brands, as I've been through 4 DV-578's now (2 of them had other problems...

    Pioneer DV-578A

Well, here's one thing my April 2004 firmware version 1.22 DV-578A does well..... I doesn't make a "pop" sound in between tracks! I set all speakers to small with subwoofer on, used the multichannel analog outputs, and selected the Hi-Rez 2 channel stereo track on Steely Dan - Everything Must Go...

    Pioneer DV-578A

I've been through a bad batch of Pioneer DV-578's too, but I'm determined to get one that works without flaws. The first one I purchased from Crutchfield was manufactured in June 2004 and was firmware 1.38. It skipped at random on most of the DVD-Audio discs I own. Just slight 1/2 second...

Is the Pioneer 563A a true DSD machine?

when Sound & Vision magazine tested the DV-563a, their lab results indicated the crossover was 200Hz for DVD-Audio, and 120Hz for SACD. I've read that Alex Paychev is reputable, and he modifies these players. Someone quoted him as saying the "563A is a true DSD machine in Stereo and if you...

    Pioneer DV-578A skipping on DVD-Audio

Good news.... I picked up a 2nd DV-578A, and it's not skipping on any DVD-Audio discs I've tried so far. Even the Steely Dan "Everything Must Go" DVD-Audio disc plays back flawlessly in the 2 channel hi-rez mode, which previously skipped like crazy about 25 to 29 seconds into each track...

    Pioneer DV-578A skipping on DVD-Audio

I was really happy with everything about the new DV-578A player I hooked up last week, until I started to hear various skipping on DVD-Audio discs. It plays CD's and DVD-Video discs just fine, and it plays 1mm errors on a test CD I have, which is better than average, and much better than the...

Crossover frequency of Cambridge Audio Azur 540D?

I'm curious to know this too. I also noticed the manual (online) really lacks information and details. Was wondering if the time-alignment (speaker distance) applies to DVD-Audio.

    Pioneer DV-563A Review

Craig Oberg, does the DV-563a somehow indicate that Steely Dan's Everything Must Go is 192/24? because the back of the Everything Must Go DVD-Audio case says the multichannel AND stereo advanced resolution tracks are both 96/24. I'm not sure if this helps your troubleshooting out or not.

    Paradigm Studio V3's

Perhaps this new laminate finish on the v.3's is an improvement over the v.2's laminate. The new v.3 product sheet posted above does say "...models are available in three new elegant premium laminate finishes - Cherry, Sycamore, and Black Ash"

Pioneer DV-45A does not have bass management

I'm surprised there's no mention of time-alignment with regards to the DV-45A. Now that we know S&V was incorrect with their assessment of the DV-45A having full BM, I'm not sure if I feel comfortable assuming they were correct about the DV-45A having time alignment for DVD-Audio mode. (they...

    Onkyo 595 or Onkyo 696

I don't think the 696 is worth the extra $300 over the 595. I don't think the "advertised" power difference will be noticeable. There's only about a 2 pound difference between the 2 units. However, as you mentioned..... at least with the 696 you'll have the option of adding external...

Anyone else heard or have the Rotel RSX-1065

The UK mags like HiFi Choice and What HiFi rave about the Rotel RSX-965 and give it 5 out of 5 stars, liking how it does the basics very well (5.1 instead of 6.1 or 7.1) and how it's the best sounding receiver for 2 channel stereo they've tested. Therefore, you'd think the 1065 would be even...

    SCART Question

Wow! A thread related to the Cambridge Audio DVD300. I just ordered one yesterday from the AudioAdvisor, since I live in the U.S. They were sold out of their initial shipment too. The thread starter (above) must be from www.audioshop.on.ca.... a Canadian store. The following thread (at a...

Anyone else heard or have the Rotel RSX-1065

I think the RSX-1065 would be a great receiver, and the amplification would be comparable to a separate multi-channel poweramp. Plus, the 1065 receiver does have Dolby Pro Logic II. I would have bought one but my local dealer wasn't interested when I asked him if he'd order me one for $1600...

    Toshiba 5700

Paul H, I was pretty sure the SD4700 was noisy on all discs but I did some more testing this evening and found that CD's and CD-R's cause the transport to become very noisy. DVD's are quiet, except for the menu's (not a problem, as long as the transport is quiet during the playing of the...

Anyone going to Canada to buy Paradigms?

The advantage of buying Paradigm speakers in Canada has to do with the list prices not being equivalent to the exchange rate. Studio 20 U.S. list price is $650 U.S Studio 20 Cdn list price is $800 Cdn, which equals $512 U.S. (converted with the approximate exchange rate your credit card...

    Onkyo 797 Volume?

When I listen to music or movies at a moderately loud volume on my Onkyo 797, I have the volume control set close to 70. I was concerned too, since on my older receiver without a digital volume control I'd never have the volume turned past the 1/2 way or 12 o'clock position. But it's just a...

Why did the Onkyo 696 do so junk in S&V's test?

Lewis, David, Michael... David Ranada also tested the Onkyo 696 receiver on the bench. I called S&V shortly after that review came out and was able to speak with David Ranada. I guess Daniel's # isn't listed because he's a contributing writer to S&V. Anyway, David said that because Daniel...

Pioneer DVD player as CD player

Pioneer DVD players (including the low-end models) have had a reputation for better than average CD playback sound. "What HiFi" and "HiFi Choice" (UK magazines which you may be able to find at a better bookstore) tend to talk a lot about the CD playback performance of DVD players. Glancing...

Why did the Onkyo 696 do so junk in S&V's test?

Re: manufacturer's published output specifications. When they say 100 watts x 6, for example... they don't always mean all 6 channels driven simultaneously. They often mean each channel driven individually one at a time. So the specs are met in this sense. In order to have the all-channels...

    Onkyo 898 and DTS ??????

Steve, you need to go into the setup menu for your DVD player. There should be an option for DTS output. It may be set to off or PCM. You need to select DTS ON or Bistream. The factory default for most DVD players is for the DTS to be off, so that you won't accidently damage your...
