I was never happy with the sound of my Yamaha receiver in straight 2-channel stereo. On the recommendation of a friend I built the Bottlehead Foreplay preamp. I love this little thing! It really does sound good, better than any $150 preamp has a right to. I've got probably $200 in it now, and...
John: If I decide to sell the Creek, I'll let you know. The MG Head is a tube headphone amp from Antique Sound Labs and is supposedly a great match for the Sennheisers. Hopefully I'll be able to do a direct comparison with the Creek soon.
I bought mine from Jan Meier - great service, and...
Gil,
Mine were a little tight for the first few days, but loosened up pretty quickly. They're extremely comfortable now, I hate to take them off. :)
While you don't *need* a headphone amp (except out of most portables) to drive the HD580/600, in my experience a good amp beats the headphone...
I've got the HD600s - really fantastic headphones, but you'll really need a headphone amp to drive them properly (unless your equipment already has a good headphone section - most manufacturers choose to skimp in this area, it seems.) The same goes for the 580s. I'm not sure about the 590s, I...
Bottlehead Corp. sells the high-efficiency (96dB) Straight 8 kit to complement their low-power SET amps. Each tower has 8 5" drivers and a tweeter. I haven't heard them but I've heard good things about them.

I haven't auditioned the Polks, but I own the PSB Image 6Ts and auditioned the 4Ts. The shop I was in didn't have the 5Ts for me to try out. I went with the 6Ts because thay had a bit more low-end extension. The bass on the 6Ts is tight and natural - not as deep as my SVS, but hey... ;) Good...
The Audiotron sorts and catalogs based on ID3 tags only. If you've got a standard naming convention you can use software to tag the files based on the filename, otherwise you'll have to clean things up manually.
I'm currently experiencing the same thing. I hooked up my new Outlaw 750 to my 3 year old Yamaha RX-V2092 receiver (100 x 5) in place of the onboard amps the other day. Wow! It really does sound like I bought new speakers. The imaging improved, the soundstage really opened up and the sound is...
I'll second the praise for the latest beta software. The web interface is handy, and I'm digging the streaming net radio as well.
My decision was between an Audiotron and a CD jukebox. I decided the Audiotron would be much more versatile, and I haven't regretted the decision one bit. I love to...
Actually, I found this forum from reading the reviews at AudioReview.com. Lurked here for a while, and finally bought a 20-39CS a few months ago. Couldn't be happier!
I've got an AudioTron, I love it! I highly recommend using the S/PDIF output, the analog section leaves a little bit to be desired. Using the S/PDIF, sound quality is mostly dependent on your encoder and settings. I'm using the LAME encoder, 192kbps VBR, stereo, which yields excellent results...
Folks,
I've got a Yamaha RX-V2092 driving a pair of PSB Image 6T mains with an Image 9C center and some older PSB towers in the rear. My sub is a SVS 20-39CS.
I'm pretty happy with the sound of the Yamaha in surround mode, 2-channel sounds pretty flat and lifeless to me. I'm hoping to find...
I'm using PSB Image 6T mains, an Image 9C center, and some older PSB towers are pulling surround duty at the moment. I'm looking for opinions on the Image 10S surrounds, or maybe a pair of Image 2B's. My sub is a 20-39CS. Love it!
