Why I Want To Win: I think the neutral tone of the Axiom's will fit my tastes, and they will look great in my remodeled living room!

David,
I have the 608, which is the same receiver from the year before, but with a different badge. I felt it was a good choice for an entry mid-fi reciever, and you would be hard pressed to find one you'd be happier with for that price. Good luck.
Also, the MSRP MAY be $435, but that's...
I was wondering if anyone knew the part number off the top of their head. I am going to start searching for a meter over the phone (the only radioshack in my dinky town is too small to have such an item), so i want the exact part number of the meter that everyone is using. Can someone help me...
Scott is correct. L7 will do pretty much what DPLII will do, they just each use there own independently created algorithms to do it. L7 was developed by Lexicon, which is owned by Harmon International. I guess this just allows you to choose which you like better... and choices are always a good...
I checked and it appears that your system DOES decode Dolby Digital encoded signals, so the vast majority of DVDs' you would be able to enjoy. Very few DVD's are DTS only, so you would just have to avoid these titles. Even then there are usually (if not always) DD versions of the movie as well...
Patrick,
Yes, it's the same kevp :D
If you are wanting digital surround sound of anykind, you'll need to think about getting a home theater reciever. I don't know from experience, but the bose system will try to 'enhance' (i use the word loosely) the sound by processing it in some manner. This...
Patrick, it doesn't decode DTS or DD in player. The decoders are usually found in the home theater reciever. Do you have one of these yet? Which one?
The outputs are digital outs (coaxial and toslink) that go to the reciever where the receiver will decode them and send the signals to the...
MTrotter,
I have a pair of the Image 5T's and have been completely, utterly satisfied with them, i don't think you could go wrong with a pair of these. I unfortunately didn't audition the Polks, but i did audition it against a pair of Monitor Audio Silver 5i and a pair of Paradigm Monitor...
Well i am currently living out of the country studying in denmark, so i had to leave my darling precious HT back at home in Kansas.
I am 22 and a senior at the University of Kansas (GO HAWKS!):
Pioneer 608 receiver
PSB Image 5T's fronts
Paradigm CC-350 center
Paradigm Minimonitors rears...
I too would like to add a little nugget of knowledge (that is, if i am right, which i'm probably not... hah)
When taking into consideration the sensitivity of a speaker, there are a few things to remember. If a speaker rated at say, 90db @1W that means that with one watt it is 90 db loud one...
Another suggestion for the sony sub. I have a Paradigm PDR-12 and frankly i am dissappointed in it. After hearing my friends Sony sub, the two compare directly, and his cost considerably less.
Check out the sony sub at just about any major electronics retailer, get two if you can...
I am always a fan of giving away stuff... Besides, occassional prizes bolster users into real patrons of the site! I vote for giving away two smaller subs as opposed to an ultra (even though i am dying to get my hands on an ultra... I don't know what i'd do with it if i got it, it'd be like a...
HAHA, i'm sorry i made a typo. What i meant to say was that i didn't necessarily need DPII, although i would miss 6.1.
Well i have personal experience with this receiver in the past due to people that i know that have it. I want a reciever with the power it has, the quality it has, so i...
I'm in the market for a new receiver, but i don't need 6.1 (although i might miss DPL II). I was wondering if an old (but new) 3801 is still available at some place... and at what price do you think?

Thanks,

If someone does do this, please post your conclusions, it would really make my day if this radio shack switcher could work... I would appreciate it greatly...

Why are the aforementioned solutions so pricey? Does it really take $550 to allow w components to plug into one connection? sheesh. I would LOVE to find one that is more reasonably priced. With all these gaming consoles coming out, surely someone has realized the need for an inexpensive...
With that TV, you will see no advantages that progressive scan players can offer, because only the XBR wegas can display the resolutions that progressive scan requires. Don't get me wrong, it's still a dang good tv, but if you don't plan on getting a new TV for a while, then just get a...
Scott,
others have already responded to your other thread where you asked the same exact question. Scroll down and take a look-see.
Good luck with your purchases

I would just like to second the comment on the 'boomyness' of the pdr and pr series... I have a PDR-12 and for what i paid for it, it is a sub par sub. It works for movies, but the music sounds horrible...
A friend of mine has that sony smw40 sub and it sounded surpsingly good! It angers me...
Depending on what dvdplayer you have, of course, but i would wager a guess as to say that the 3802's decoders are probably nicer than what is in the player. Plus the convenience of everything on one cable (less mess), and better bass management would make the rcvr a hands down winner...
am i...
Also, after reading my earlier posts, I'd like to clear up any assumptions, I am studying and traveling over here, i'm not just sitting around and watching TV
DOH! But i am here on the forum sometimes... HAHAHA :)

Interesting, i wasn't aware PAL had a standard tinting control. Would this affect digital cable at all or is digital is digital is digital?
It really is quite a good picture, the sharpness of the lines is something that surprised me too, so maybe it's general quality control of the signal that...
I'm not sure which area this post should be in, but i just wanted to state an observation i've had since coming to Denmark to study (from the University of Kansas). Television broadcasts here seem to have a much better picture quality than i'm used to seeing from watching TV in Kansas...
I know...
So do subsonic filters roll off towards higher frequencies?
If so, then is 20hz a pretty much sweet spot number for the 20-39pc since it is tuned to ~19-20hz?

I have tried to do a search on the subject for a friend of mine, but the site is always so busy, it won't let me look
I know it's approaching downright cliche to ask for advice on a sub $1000 system BUT, this friend of mine is looking at a package deal for around $1000 (this being the 5...
