I've had the Level III combo Y (two towers) since about June and I have not been disappointed. This is the first real set of speakers I've ever gotten (so I can't really compare them to anything) and I like them more and more each time I play them (they need a good amount of break-in time).
I...

And also check out the Secrets review posted on that thread. I pretty much agree with everything in it.
I'll post the same there as I'm about to tell you. I've had the Level III combo Y (two towers)...
I'm not a techie or anything so if you want some serious information, I would do a search for biwiring and you'll find the information you need.
I biwired the two front towers and the center channel. What that involves is (with my Onkyo 696) is you take the gold runner off the HTD speakers...
This is the same answer I posted on a recent post.
I have the HTD Level III system (Combo Y, I think) that has two towers, center and two bookshelfs and a sub and I can't tell you how happy I am with them.
I was happy with them at first but I wasn't blown away. I felt the soundstage was a...

I was happy with them at first but I wasn't blown away. I felt the soundstage was a little small and some of the sound was a little tinny...
I was watching Buffy on UPN last night (on cable) with the DPLII turned on (Onkyo 696) and I noticed that sounds that should have been coming from the left were coming from the right and vice versa.
But on other shows, like the West Wing, it seems fine.
Has anybody noticed this? Can anything...
Thanks for the input Kevin, it is really, really helpful.
I have been contemplating adding an amp to boost my Onkyo 696 and HTD Level III speakers. Your input might have sealed it. Now I just have to figure out when to do it. I want a new computer...oh, and then there's that pesky honeymoon I...
I have the HTD setup you're talking about (without the HSU sub) and I think it's music ability is underrated (I think it depends on your receiver). I probably have the same movie-music percentage as you and I have not been disappointed one bit. The towers really are superb.
I don't really know...
I'll throw my recommendation behind the Home Theater Direct 5.1 Level III Combo Y package I have. I absolutely love it - especially the sweet towers.

I got the Lovan Director for $50 plus shipping - and I have a big center speaker (20 inches wide).
I think it's great and highly recommend it. The only thing I didn't like was there weren't any directions with it. I scratched up the top of my entertainment a little because I didn't know where a...
I highly recommend them. They put out a great, warm sound and also deliver great bass (I don't even use my sub). And they are very sturdy.
I think you'll be very happy. And if you aren't, just send them back and get your money back!
Sounds like you just might not like the sounds.
But if your budget allows, I would definitely swap them for the towers. They are really sweet and sound better than the bookshelfs.
To help break in my HTD Level III bookshelfs that I use for surround, I brought them to the front and drove them...
I would check out the Home Theater Direct towers at hometheaterdirect.com.
They put out such great bass that I haven't even hooked up my subwoofer yet (plus, I live in an apartment).
There's a review on them at cheaphometheater.com.
This is, of course, if you're on a budget. I love them.
I had about the same budget as you and I think you would be pretty happy with the following:
Onkyo 595 — $400
Home Theater Direct Combo Y (2 towers, 2 bookshelf, center, powered sub): $949
And the rest on wires
But what I would do, which I have done, is go with the 696 ($650) over the 595...
I second Jeff's comments.
I have the towers and bookshelfs and I think you'll be happy — after a break-in period. Even though if you had the towers as your mains, I know you would be dam happy.
The bookshelfs are decent compared to the towers.
You have 30 days, so just drive the crap out of...
I think I'm going to upgrade from the Onkyo 595 (no-preouts) to the 696 so that in a year or so, I can add the new Outlaw 950 pre/pro to increase my power?
Will I be able to do this or am I just a dumb, know nothing newbie?
Will these two products be compatible?
Thanks.
Did anyone get it from an authorized dealer? I don't think moreaudiovideo.com is one. I can't find them on Denon's website.
What are the authorized dealers charging? Where?
Thanks.
What price did you get?
I'm exchanging the 595 for the 696 and want to make sure I don't get ripped off.
Thanks,
Greg
Also, what did you get the 3802 for? Would you recommend that over the 696?
Thanks for the input.
Paul, that's what I was afraid someone would say.
What receiver would you guys recommend for LARGE speakers like the HTDs? I would like to stay around the 696 price range but may go a few 100 above it's worth it.
Or should I get the 696 and then get a pre/pro like the...
I've had my Level III 5.1 Combo Y (towers and bookshelf) for a little over a month with the Onkyo 595 and I love them. I just received their new sub and haven't really used it yet so I don't have a comment. I do know that the towers put out such great bass that I don't need a subwoofer for my...
Yeah, you sound like you had a similiar problem.
I thinking about going with the 696 and then maybe the new Outlaw pre/pro after a year.
You've let me know that I'm not crazy.
That's a good thing.
I think this may have to do with the Onkyo power issue.
My equipment:
Toshiba 2109 DVD player
Onkyo 595
Home Theater Direct 5.1 set (Combo Y) with two towers. (Not using the sub right now, mains set to large, rest to small — but I would like the surrounds to large).
Bettercables silver...
I'm not really familiar with the Paradigm speakers you're talking about, but if you are looking for a good, quality tower speaker, I think you would be remiss in not auditioning the HTD tower.
I absolutely love mine.
Check out the review at cheaphometheater.com and also the review on the...
