*** Official E.T. Discussion Thread *2 Disk Set Includes Original Version of the Film!

I received my Gift Set box from Kmart.com today. I have to say that until I had it in my hands, along with an invoice for $25, I didn't really think it would happen. Had to go to work before I could get into, but my oh my, it's a nice looking box. Well worth the $30 (including shipping)...

*** Official E.T. Discussion Thread *2 Disk Set Includes Original Version of the Film!

For what it's worth, I just placed an order at Kmart online. I ordered the gift set and the regular release. On every screen leading up to the final "order" button, the item numbers were different for each release. However, when I check my order status now, it shows that I have ordered two...

more Ray Harryhausen, now it is Mysterious Island on 29 october

Columbia may not own the stereo tracks, which were prepared by Pioneer for their Special Edition laserdiscs. I dunno, anamorphic enhancement aside, I think I'll be sticking with the LD (it'll show more picture anyway).

Close Encounters of the Third Kind picture quality

The DVD of CE3K is the best it has ever looked on video. That said, the Criterion LD is taken from a cleaner print, from before the negative became as damaged. This is a guess, of course, so if I'm wrong don't kill me. There are several effects shots that are drastically cleaner on the...

    Woman in Black DVD

The DVD is full frame and typical of older BBC productions, that is, soft with muddy colors. That said, I found it to be an extremely effective ghost story that's scary in ways most films of this type aren't. And there is one moment that scared me more than any film in recent memory. Can you...

The Magnificent Ambersons (the ORIGINAL) ?

I doubt that Welles ever thought the film was "overbloated, unsuccessful, and a mess". However, Robert Carringer in his book on AMBERSONS, makes a pretty good case that Welles did become disenfranchised with the film due to his not having the same caliber of crew that he had on CITIZEN KANE...

Close Encounters - any reason to keep the LD?

Just for the record, due to a error in the chapter stop encoding, it is IMPOSSIBLE to program the Criterion CAV disk to play the 'Special Edition'. I had always heard and assumed that Criterion had fixed the problem on later pressings, but I now believe that it was never fixed. Aside from...

Snow White LD -- CLV vs. CAV

Just thought I'd throw this in: The DVD does NOT contain all of the CAV disk's extras. I haven't taken the time to document all that's missing, but off the top of my head I know that the Walt Disney biographical timeline is missing all of the stills, and the section on merchandising is...
