I was told to only turn on the HDR+ mode when viewing true HDR movies (say on Netflix). Don’t have it on for non HDR material. Then I read that the HDR mode upconverts a non HDR signal.
What’s the real answer?
I have a Samsung 75
This was a rare situation when the HomeTheaterForum was stumped and stymied. I so appreciate the help and still do, but I’m glad I’m not the only one that was puzzled.
I do want to try ONE more thing, though. I want to try going Apple TV directly into my TV (bypassing the receiver) and then using optical audio cable from TV to receiver. I read that some Apple TV users in my situation have had success that way.
Update: the new HDMI cable, unfortunately, did NOT do the trick.
I’m going to do as you originally suggested, Brian, and change my framerate down to 24Hz, etc. However, I won’t be able to do this until Monday.
Are you Brian, or someone, online here Monday, if I need any help working the TV...
The snow is causing the amazon delivery guy to make me wait for the new cable. Ugh.
I did get a response from an Apple forum and it was the same idea as you, Brian, gave me two days ago. I may ask you to walk me through it again, IF the cable doesn’t do the trick.

I still can’t get why I was able to get 4K HDR when I went directly in to the TV (but didn’t get 5.1 sound) and bypassed the receiver. I guess it could be an HDMI cable issue. Maybe it needs a stronger and more capable cable to use the receiver as the in-between device.
I’ll know soon enough.
I disconnected the HDMI cable that was in the Blu-ray player and put it into the Apple TV box, just to check, and no luck.
When I try to put the signal into HDR mode, I keep getting the following screen.
My new HDMI cable comes today, probably by early afternoon. Fingers crossed it’s the answer.
That’s the way I have it but just waiting now for the new cable to get here in the snow. Yes, this hockey puck device called Apple TV is what gives me all of the apps that I can stream content.
Tell you what. Let me wait until this new cable comes today. It’s been certified to work with Apple TV, so if it doesn’t work, I’ll try as you suggest.
Thanks a lot.
Ok.
BTW, I don’t have a cable box. This room is a home theater only—no cable or satellite TV. When you say, send Netflix to the Sony, you mean send Apple TV to the Sony blueray player?
TV - 75MU8000
Receiver - Denon AVR-S530BT
4K Apple TV
Sony UBP-X800 4K blu-ray player
GE 4K Ultra HD cable.
My blu ray player is in my receiver’s Blu-ray input #4.
The receiver goes out to the TV connector box (ARC to ARC), which is input #4 on the TV’s connector box. I am able to get 5.1...
