I think that Saurav explained this much better than I did. When I calibrate my system for watching a movie, it required using the volume control on both the rotel and the receiver so that R,C,L,LS, and RS all read at the same level on my SPL meter. I then just use the receiver's volume control...
I am no expert, and there are people here who I am sure can tell you WHY this works, but I will tell you my experience.
Let's say I choose to calibrate at 60dB on my RS SPL meter. I use a test tone, and set the Rotel volume where the main speakers read 60dB and the center and surrounds read 60...
I have an RA-972 that I use when listening to CD's. I have my Yamaha reciever pre outs connected to the Rotel's aux imput for when I need 5.1, bass management, etc. I just used my SPL meter to find the spot on the Rotel's volume dial that matched the other speakers powered by the Yamaha. It...
I have the Yamaha RXV596 and Mini Monitors as mains set to small with bass going to a DIY Shiva Sonotube. I have found that room placement makes all the difference in your situation.
When I first bought my Atoms I had them on cheap MDF speaker stands. It took about a month and a half for one of our cats to send one crashng to the floor. The good news is that the speaker survived the fall without any damage. I then purchased some heavy sand-fillable stands from Lovan. The...
I recently auditioned both the Mini's and the 20's. I ended up with the Mini's. I felt that the 20's were better, but not enough better to cost $300 more. Once I got the Mini's home, set up, and burned in, I was sure I made the right decision for me. They sound great.
I used the Atoms as mains for quite some time. You will want a good sub, but they are really great speakers. I recently bought Mini Monitors for mains and moved the Atoms to surrounds. I am very happy with the sound.
I have heard snapping sounds before too and was afraid that my amp was clipping. In my case, it turned out to be dirty or scratched disks rather than a power or connection problem. In my case however, it only happened during certain tracks on certain disks at any volume level.
I am using a 100wpc Sony to power my Shiva sonosub. I have each channel wired to its own voice coil. I have never had a problem with the receiver going into safe mode or turing off.
