Wow, what is up with Howard Stringer changing his tune so drastically? He's gone from "Blu ray has won" to "it doesn't matter who wins." I never thought he would back down like that. http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/format-wa...uch-320802.php
Well, I did go back and finish the film last night, and you guys were right - the second half is far better than the first. It raised my over-all impression of the film, but it is still my least favorite of the Pixars. I would give it a C+, but A+ if you ignore the story and just look at it.
This has been the only Pixar film that I have turned off half way through, and I think I know why... I just couldn't connect with any of the characters, maybe because a car cannot show the same range of emotion through facial features etc. that an animal can. The artwork and presentation are the...
I'm in your boat Ron E. I won't pay 1000 or even 800 for a player from any side, but the Toshiba is really tempting me right now. One or two more big titles and I will be an HD DVD supporter.
Apparently I am one of the few people who don't have a problem with the current price of software, and the Toshiba HD player seems like a fair price also. I am also willing to uprgade my TV to get HDMI inputs, because I realize the only reason the studios are giving us HD is to fix the broken...
I predict nearly all new releases will require the card to get the sale prices. BB has just made it not worth price matching them with circuit city's generally cheaper prices.
My take: Overall, I liked it. I wish they had given metal collosus some serious screen time, and had not allowed him to turn Rogue's head metal to protect her in the danger room. I have never like rogue in this series, and was surprised she was even in training, as she had no powers to speak...
Yep, I love the Kurosawa movie, and that character is one of my favorites. Don't know why the translation into a big red samurai robot soured my tastes, but we all have our opinions :)
I would like to thank Ron, Bill Hunt, and Mr. Harris for being so involved in this issue. It is amazing to me that the man who put so much work into the restoration of films such as LoA and Rear Window would care about the Star Wars Trilogy. Thank you all.
I hope this thread can live up to the high standards of conduct I view the HTF with. I know for many this is one of the most important dvd sets in the collection, so tempers can flare. If anyone at LucasFilm is still reading this far in, I would like to state that a non-animorphic release will...
It was the episode where the group of 5 are on a boat and reach the "metal city" protected by the guardians hanging from the ceiling? Anyway I know it may not have been a good episode to judge the series, I was just disappointed by the voice acting, especially the big red guy in the full armor...
I accidentally saw an episode of Samurai 7 on IFC yedsterday. I expected it to be more serious than it was. Unfortunately it seems that I am not destined to be a big fan of Anime, try as I might. (I do love every Gibli film I have seen though)
I think locke was just testing out the tube, and had no other intentions, hes just stuck the only scrap of paper he had handy inside to see if it still worked. At this point he was thinking it was all a waste of time anyway, so who cares about the map etc. In reality ( not applicable I know)...
Sadly, I have just imported a DS lite from HongKong, one day before the announcement of the US version. It will be out in June for $129.99. It will only be sold in white for a while, so at least I am glad I ordered the ice blue version. Worth $70 more? LOL I try to tell myself yes. Oh well, live...
If I were Toshiba I would get my non-pc based players out as soon as possible, because I'm not buying the Frankenstein's monster we have lying before us. I guess they have changed their minds about having 2nd generation players out beore the holidays... too bad.
OK, I'm all caught up now. I just have to say I can't believe how it ended, not that it was shocking, just that it wasn't believable. I'll go back in the thread and read where the rest of you discussed this before I comment more... Edit: The things I think are weak about the new twist are the...
I haven't watched the last 5 or so episodes yet, so I hate even coming in this thread. I had to ask though, what role is played by Richard Hatch? Nevermind, I found it somewhere else. LOL I'm not even going to say what I was thinking.
Thanks for the Amazon price alert, I can't imagine BB etc will beat that at release so I went ahead and pre-ordered. Now to find a place to dump the old version for more than the $2 it sells for on ebay.
As far as the ringing, I have come to the conclusion that many Disney dvd's are intentionally made to look worse than possible on DVD to emphasize the improvement when HD is released. I'm glad it doesn't affect every release, but what other conclusion can be made with examples like this and say...
Thanks for your review David, and especially for the call to action at Disney. I hope someone listens, as I will not repurchase ANY Disney (or other studio) Blu- ray products that feature edge enhancement.
Thor and Hulk duking it out was a highlight of mine also. I have always loved Thor, and didn't have a problem with his mannerisms etc. as others have. Does anyone know if they ever changed his origin over the years from a guy finding mjolnir in a cave? I guess Stan Lee and those guys wanted all...
Well Brett I thought that was the case, but when they introduce the characters in the extras part (which uses what appear to be sketches from some other source), not only does mjolnir have 2 flat sides, Thor also has a beard... strange. I never read the Nick Fury books, so his change didn't...
