This will probably get moved, but what the heck. I'm currently finishing up a futuristic/action novel I started years ago. In the end, a rebuilt Manhattan (the original Manhattan had been destroyed by terrorists) is destroyed entirely. I'm hoping this novel will be picked up first as a novel...
Well, Rachel, not only am I in the Cruelty is wRong Against Plants (CRAP) but I'm also in the National Association Against Old People. Think about how many old people there are. They just sit around and get our tax dollars. They can't drive safely, complain about everything, and aren't very...
This isn't a right-wing issue. It's a preservist and purist issue. Why can't Disney leave their history alone? Pretty soon they'll have to delete Jiminy Cricket from Pinocchio because PETA will say it's cruelty to crickets to have them work as a conscience and not get paid. Or Bambi will...
We all know about the "PC"ing of Disney's DVD's (i.e. Fantasia, Make Mine Music, Song of the South). Now, add their parks to the equation. According to Link Removed Disney is making the Jungle Cruise skippers lose their guns. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have voice...
I have a Panasonic A310 and it didn't lock up, but it did have some BAD pixelization problems in that scene. The rest of the movie was fine. I have the same problem with The Time Machine and Ichabod and Mr. Toad DVDs. No problems on my Sony, though.
Absolutely, this is the funniest commentary I've heard. I rarely laugh out loud at a movie, much less the commentary! Josh Brolin's comment about Robert Davi was hilarious. "He really thinks this is happening, look at him." And the 'Our time' comments were great. Even Corey Feldman's...
How did I miss this thread?? I think the originator of this post hit the nail on the head for most of us. We are collectors. Movie lovers, too, but first and foremost collectors. I think there is more excitement in the buying and cataloging of movies than there is in the actual viewing of...
I picked mine up today at of all places Kmart. What is up with all the other places being sold out??? Luckily, everybody who shops at Kmart obviously doesn't have a DVD player, so I picked up a copy. The picture quality is great, except for the Mouth/Rosalita sequence which is sort of grainy...
While I whole-heartedly agree that we should have the original editions included on the definitive set, I have another idea. Why not make the definitive editions MUCH longer? I mean, don't just add 5 minutes or so. You've got the whole DVD, make them 3 hour edits! Fill them up! We'll have...
Agreed. Especially the end of A New Hope. The new attack on the Death Star was breathtaking. Lucas would be wise, however, to offer the original versions on a 2nd or 3rd disc. I think we'd all pay for that.
I'm just glad he's doing them. It's hard to keep continuity through 6 movies, especially when the last 3 were done 20 years ago, so shooting scenes that will better link the movies is a great idea. Besides, as I've always said, you can NEVER have too much Star Wars footage! Exception: When...
I was curious if any of you might know if the upcoming SE of Blade Runner is going to have the current director's cut on the disc? I'm trying to find out if I should go ahead and pick up the current disc or just wait for the loaded SE.
Just a thought. Wouldn't it be great if Terry Gilliam took over the HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy project? I've always thought the Douglas Adams' hilarious book would be Terry Gilliams ultimate project.
To understand why people gush over Criterion, you have to go back to the heyday of Laserdiscs. Criterion put out great special editions of many movies that the studios were unwilling to make. Fast forward to the dvd revolution. Now, most studios are willing to put tons of extras on their dvds...
The crown jewel of my collection has FINALLY been purchased! And, strangely enough, it's my 100th DVD. Brazil Criterion Collection! Why can't studios make dvd's like this? Then again, why can't studios make movies like this? Of course, that is answered on the dvd with the Battle of Brazil...

True Lies and History of the World! Those were in the display. I forgot. X-Men wasn't, but if they were in your display, grab it! Young Frankenstein had a lot of extras for a comedy. Really enjoyed it. And, yes, the Seige and Predator are the DTS/DD versions. I would get some more, but I...
I was browsing through Kmart today, hoping to find a good deal on a DVD, and came across a new DVD display of Fox movies with a sign that says "$12.99"! Hmmm. Here is the list of movies in the display.
Predator
Speed
Broken Arrow
Young Frankenstein
The Siege
My Cousin Vinny
There was...
Has to be Star Wars Trilogy for me.
VHS: Taped from HBO
VHS: CBS/FOX
VHS: THX Pan and Scan
VHS: THX Letterbox
VHS: Special Edition Pan and Scan
VHS: Special Edition Letterbox
And yes, I will be buying the DVD version(s)!
I do wish more dvds had this feature. There are MANY movies that my whole family would enjoy if they would just remove a few words or scenes. The Matrix and Blues Brothers are two that just popped in my mind.
Sounds great! Just hope it comes on this side of the pond. And, hopefully, with a commentary by Simon Jones thrown in for good measure. Thanks for the info!
I agree that Jay Roach should go ahead and get the movie version going. I also think they should do the entire 'trilogy'. I didn't know that Warner owned the BBC/Fox collection. If Warner makes a DVD of it, it'll be sure to be in a crappy snapper case and probably won't be full of extras, but...
I know we're getting all sorts of EXCELLENT dvds in the next few months(I'll be broke by December!), but I REALLY wish Fox would put the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy soon. A two disc set with plenty of extras would be nice, such as a making of documentary, a documentary on Douglas Adams...
