And the corrected disc was authored in Nov 2021, a few months after the botched Aug 2021 one. I ordered the US disc new in Feb 2023 from Amazon and it was the original disc. Fall 2023 the UK got the corrected disc as an official release. Both are region free.
I mean, come on, y’all.
The moth referenced in this scene appears to have been digitally removed as a possible flaw on the 2021 Warner Archive Blu-ray release of The Ghost Ship (1943). A corrected version with the moth rightfully restored was issued in 2023 in the UK, though the disc was authored in November 2021, just...
The original theatrical version was not released on Blu-ray or 4K though it was labeled as such. The opening logo was part of that, as was the finale without all of the revised filtering/color timing. That is my point and not up for debate.
I have an OLED too, and I thought the comparison I made of Burstyn walking shows how gorgeous, natural and detailed the 4K master is. It’s the exorcism itself where the problem is. I zoomed in to 2.5x in the second half of the video to show how the detail has been fuzzed out. Watch the video on...
I thought the 4K looked stunning - EXCEPT for the exorcism itself. The processing softened the image tremendously, but it appears they stuck with whatever was output to film for the 2000 reissue and left it that way, even on the “original theatrical version”, which isn’t what it claims to be...
I wish someone could explain to me why Under Capricorn is so dull! It’s shot so beautifully, but… Along with The Paradine Case, my least favorite Hitchcock films of the US period.
Keep in mind this has been downscaled to 1080p and the 4K may seem too dark when viewed on a phone or computer, but that’s an aftereffect of converting HDR to SDR. Viewing the 4K HDR on a 4K display reveals so much detail in the darker and lighter parts of the image that an online video...
Can’t post this to YouTube as Universal keeps blocking it even though it could help then sell their product! Zoomed to 2.5x to show detail difference.
The 4K HDR was converted to SDR for this. I didn’t correct for the color bust on the LaserDisc signal either. This doesn’t do justice to how...
That quote on Rope is for the standalone 4K/BD release, yes? I would say most Hitchcock fans are buying the box: sales figures on that? Surely more than 300.
Disney, Shout Factory, Kino, Sony, Paramount, Severin, Vinegar Syndrome - they all have included remastered Blu-rays with their 4K discs, but not Warner and Universal.
The before images are unmatted and are not showing the proper framing. The film was composed for 1.85:1. As Robert Harris was involved with this restoration, maybe he’s taking more time with his thread on this title.
Zoomed in 2.5x so the detail difference is more apparent - and the misalignment of the Technicolor matricies from the prior master is magnified as well.
They released the film with the Capitol tracks in the film, just in terrible sonic quality - that’s it. No rights to renegotiate as they obviously have settled any possible issues for this Blu release. Why would they need to contact Universal when superior sources are available commercially of...
IndyGuy is wrong though in his understanding of the issue; this is not a case of not knowing how to display legacy content properly. I don’t think anyone here needed a primer on letterboxed video within a 4x3 frame within a 16x9 frame.
Warner Archive Blu-ray releases I’ve identified with 1.33:1 content stretched to 1.5:1 and then mastered within a 1.78:1 frame with 11% horizontal distortion built-in to the image:
The Boy With Green Hair (1948) - “A Really Important Person” short
Flamingo Road (1949) - “Crawford at Warners”...
