Lost my Hitachi last year for a month. It was a mix of an inability to diagnose the problem and trouble getting parts. When they brought it back the screen was scratched (that's a whole 'nother story).
I had a similar experience. I was messing with the convergence for about 20 minutes or so. My set (Hitachi) seems to revert to torch mode when displaying the convergence grid. When I was finished, I popped in a DVD and a few of the convergence lines were plainily visible, as if burned into the...
I have a problem with my Hitachi 43UWX10B. The set was ISF calibrated a few months back and the picture was perfect until I turned it on this morning.
The picture is now too dark, very soft, and my grays have a noticeable blue tint. None of the user controls has been changed.
Any thoughts...
This is a very common problem with all makes of the flat screen tvs. It is possible to get a good one (so I hear). I've had a Wega and a Panasonic Tau and they both have had these same problems with bowing.
Exchange it if you can and try to check the other set out at the store, if...
I have the Panny 32" you're refering to. I use the same set up (analog cable/dvd) and am very pleased with the picture. My only two issues are that it shows a little too much red and the geometry is off in some spots on the screen. If you look around the forum though, I think it's safe to say...
All my moves have been local, so my strategy was this: find a capable buddy (for me any more than two people carrying it gets too jammed up) and another one or two as backup, heave the beast up and carry it towards my vehicle (taking several breaks by setting it down along the way), place into...
On my old Wega XBR250, it showed up as a vertical strip (about 5" wide) that was on the left side of the screen. During dark scenes, this strip would be dark as it was supposed to be, but the rest of the screen would be brighter. The screen would be progressively brighter the closer it got to...
When I was in the market for a 34" 16:9, I eliminated the Philips because it only had one HD capable component input. So you couldn't connect an HD tuner and a progressive scan dvd player at the same time.
It might not be an issue to some people, but I figured if I was going to drop that...
I had a Wega from 3 model years ago and it had this problem. I just can't believe they keep cranking out these sets with the same problems again and again.
I had it fixed since I had in home service. The repair took only a few minutes and more or less fixed it.

I almost bought one of these babies yesterday at the local Best Buy, but they were out of stock. The display model was playing the HD demo loop in black and white only, not the color display showing on all the other sets. Any ideas what would have caused this because, of course, the sales guy...
You'll have to be the judge on whether it bothers you enough to try for a replacement. If you do go the replacement route, see if you can look at the new set in the store before it's delivered or try to con the delivery guys into sticking around a few extra minutes so you can give the picture a...
I think you're stuck with the "flag waving" effect. As for the pin cushioning on the top/bottom edges, I had last year's model Wega and service manual and there was an adjustment for this. It was something similar to UPC (Upper Pin Cushion) and LPC (Lower Pin Cushion).

I second the opinion to take back/get fixed, if possible. It drove me crazy. Once I knew it was there, I couldn't take my eyes off it.
If you try to have it fixed, check your set geometry real good before the tech leaves. Although they may just be trying to adjust the tilt, messing with...
I had the XBR250. It was not HDTV capable and the XBR400 is. I would say that's probably the biggest change.
On my XBR250, I had some geometry problems and uneven brightness across the screen during dark scenes. I think Sony worked out some of these problems for the XBR400s.
I'm not...
