    balanced a/c conditioners and amps

In the past - I've been with the understanding that nothing should be placed in the a/c circuit before the power amplifier. With these new Balanced Power a/c conditioners - has that changed? I'm considering the B-P-T products. As an example - with the use of multiple Aragon 8008BB amps for a HT...

    Sony DVP-NS900V

I purchased this player and the XA777es from Oade Brothers about a month ago. So far I like it alot. I haven't done a side-by-side comparison though. I like the video playback better than my Pioneer Elite DV37's playback. However, I haven't done critical listening or viewing of the ns900 yet.

    Sony DVP-NS900V initial impressions

here's the link - it's hard to find and won't show up on a search for the model number. I just ordered one from Oade Brothers $800 delivered. I can't say enough good things about my experiences with them. I also just received a XA777es SACD player. The tray/door was making a scraping noise, and...

    who makes universal SACD/DVD-A players

Besides the two year old Pioneer universal player who makes or has near-term plans to market one. I'm at a point, that I would like to add a SACD player, but would hate to have a universal player in my local store in two months time. I don't need digital outputs or progressive scan. Just SACD...

Philips SACD 1000 vs Sony's SACD players

Who owns one of these Philips SACD/DVD 1000 players? How do you like it? How does it compare to Sony's high-end SACD players? I only have one 5.1 analog input, so I'm thinking about doing either a SACD multi-channel plus DVD-V player. It needs to be able to play CD-R and CD-RW discs too. So that...

    Hum and circuits

All three circuits are grounded at the circuit box, and all three are on the same leg too. But there is a good 40 or 50 feet of wire between the outlets and the circuit box. ------------------

    Hum and circuits

Hello, well I've got a question that has ground loop noise, which is typical with multiple circuits or plugs around the room. My situation is that I have a lot of gear, and a lot of monoblock amps for dedicated 2 channel and 7.2 surround. Because of all the gear, I have three circuits. All 3...

Upgrade Time! Big Screen HDTV or Audio/Speakers?

Your room is smaller than mine. 57" will put in the closet or next door. Unless your looking to a bigger house in the relative near future, it would be way, way too big. Go look at the little Toshiba, it's a great size for smaller rooms. Mine is in a room 10 x 12 with a similar viewing distance...

Upgrade Time! Big Screen HDTV or Audio/Speakers?

Do the speakers, right now with this Digital interface question for future digital TV, I wouldn't invest the money to not be able to get digital HDTV in the near future. I believe it is called DVI, and unless your TV has it, it won't get the future HDTV signals. I have a Tosh 40H80, and Toshiba...

Well constructed enclosure w/Shiva Driver vs. SVS 20-39cs?

I'm using an Shiva based isobaric sub in a small cabinet like the Rava with great results. I'm powering it with a Hafler DH220 amp and using my Denon 5800 crossover sub output at 80hz. You might also like the Rava if you don't want to assemble a DIY sub. ------------------

    Another newbie interconnect question

You need to double check what your plugging into. Most DVD players have a single digital output in either optical or coax. This would be preferred over 6 analog outputs. Some of the outputs you're looking at maybe video too. ------------------

I would recommend you go look at Adire's offerings before making a decision. And while I'm at it, SVS also. http://www.adireaudio.com/ http://www.svsubwoofers.com/ ------------------

    Electrical power requirements

Is there a formula for calculating the amperage use, i.e. say I've got 2,000 watts divided by 120 equals 16.667 amps. Then a percentage of that for actual draw factor. My thoughts are coming from looking at my panel, which is 200 amp panel. But when you add up all the circuit breakers, it...

    Electrical power requirements

I'm in the process of redoing my audio systems. In doing so, I'm going from one "combined music/theater" system, to two discrete systems. In doing so, I'm adding a lot of components. New for the theater will be seven monoblock amps for the 7 channels. Plus I will have a Crown pro stereo amp for...

    Site for hi end wannabees

Hey Thomas if you see this, one of Adnan's world friends is Carl Jerritts. He lives downtown, and works with John Barnes of Audio Unlimited. fiber optic cable...any reason to upgrade it??

If you need to stay with fiber optic, I would look at Bettercables.com Their termination is all metal, and not the cheap plastic, plus they are cheaper than Monster cable. I've got four of them, and very happy. ------------------

SVS: Procedure on how to check for room nulls?

One of the easiest is to place the subwoofer where you want to sit. Then walk around your room to see where you should place the sub. This cheats to a certain degree, but could be the most convenient. You'll need a test tone to play while you move around. Good Luck ------------------

    RG6 Quad wire

Radio shack also carries a couple good crimping tools. Make sure what ever you buy has the various RG6, RG59 etc. The Home Depot blue Carol cable bulk quad shield is copper clad steel and very brittle. The 25ft and 50ft blue Carol is not quad shield and is copper clad steel as well. I just...

    Need recommendations for $700 receiver

Is that for street price ie. internet purchase - or for an "authorized dealer" price? As an example, Denon 3801 - less than $700 on the net, to $1000 to $1200 from the A dealer. Net pricing can save a bunch, but the A dealer's really push "warranty" down your throat. I would look at the new...

    Upgrading Theater

I own several model of norh speakers. I have the marble 9s, and marble 4s. Depending on your WAF issues the marble or synthetic marble(SM) could be a under budget option. Dangers of DIY (warning contains silly content)

Since I'm the one in the tube, I should tell you what Tom really wanted to do. After getting in the tube, he wanted to use 5 minute epoxy to cement me in. With Denver's latest monsoon rain season, I would be under water within an hour. The tube is 2 feet in diameter and 6 feet tall. I'm not...

25 pin plug inputs for SACD or DVD-Audio

I can have great cables made up by my cable man, but you still are sending the signal through that cheap computer 25 pin connector. And the pins and females are very light duty. They might be ok for digital signals, but analog signals? That's what concerns me. The SGHT didn't talk about this...

25 pin plug inputs for SACD or DVD-Audio

I don't currently have that problem. But was looking at the Integra. After posting a request on cable asylum, I found that those 25 pin connectors are basically crap. Why spend all the money for a SACD or DVD-A and a pre/pro to put a 25 cent plug into the signal. Stupid, Stupid.

25 pin plug inputs for SACD or DVD-Audio

The new Integra Research RDC-7 and DVD player use computer 25 pin plugs for their 7.1 and 5.1 analog inputs for SACD and DVD-Audio. This should be the best signal source and connection for the audio chain. It bothers me, that a company would use a 25 cent connector for these terminations. What...
