Hi all, I just purchased an HK 520, and have a question. When playing older DVD's with no discrete 5.1 track, I definitely want to take advantage of DPLII. My question concerns the optimal connection to use. Should I use the digial or analog connections? According to the HK manual I should...
As far as I can tell all of Denon's receiver manuals state that they can accept speakers rated at 6 ohms and up. But the home theater FAQs on Denon's website state that all of their receivers won't have a problem with 4 ohm speakers. What gives? I'm thinking of getting 4 ohm speakers for my...
I seem to recall that there was quite a bit of postive feedback about reliable on HTF or somewhere else. Personally, I'd rather pay the extra $60 bucks and buy authorized from 6th Avenue, which is authorized.
For those not aware, 6th avenue's actual price is lower than its website states, you...
Hi all, Don't know if this post belongs here or not, but here goes. I have a small dedicated HT that's about 13x10.5. My RPTV is along the long wall. I currently have a 5.1 setup, but am planning to upgrade my receiver to a Denon 2802, which is of course 6.1. My question is should I buy an...
Hi all, I'm thinking of getting a new receiver for my small HT (12'x10'). I am using a Denon 2600(?) from a couple of years ago, and want DTS and DP2. In a perfect world, I'd get the 2802, but I'm not willing to pay $800 and I really don't want to buy from an unauthorized dealer.
So I'm...
Hello, I'm looking to buy a new receiver, and used to go to a site where individuals reviewed different retailers for service, value, etc. I can't find the link, and was wondering if anyone knew the site I'm talking about. Thanks in advance.
You will set your DVD player to 16:9 and you will not have to change it. Anamorphic DVDs will look correct as long as you use the "16x9 Enhanced" mode on the WEGA. Non-anamorphic letterboxed and full-frame DVDs will also be shown correctly without having to change any settings on the DVD player.
I used to think the same as you (I sit 7.5 feet away from my TV), bought a 36" WEGA, didn't like it, and decided to get a 47" HDTV (Panny). I couldn't be happier. There's no way it's too big given my viewing distance. I never see scan lines. It looks great.
I'm looking to buy either the JVD 70 or 75 DVD-audio player. Crutchfield is carrying them, but I'd rather wait and buy locally so I could return it easier. CC tells me they won't be carrying these players, and BB and Sears don't have them as of yet. Has anyone bought/seen one of these at one...
I've had this TV for about 18 months and have been very pleased. DVDs look good and my DirecTV signal looks good as well. This TV doesn't have component inputs, however.
I've had the JVC 65 for about a week now. The player does scale nonanamorphic letterboxed discs, but as has been pointed out, only if the discs are flagged correctly. There is a manual zoom option, using the remote control, which simply zooms in X2, X4, etc. For those incorrectly flagged...
When I was calibrating in the service menu, I was in 480i (I didn't have progressive at the time). Once I got my progressive DVD player, I recalibrated, but only in the user menu. When I was done, I still had not noticeable red push, so I can only guess that the settings I made in the service...
Matt, I calibrated the set with AVIA, observed the 25% red push, then went into the service and changed the settings based on what I found on Brett's website. After changing only those three parameters, I re-calibrated the user settings with AVIA. Red, blue, and green all seem to be within at...
Thanks for the confirmation everyone.
Tommy, like the player so far. I think I'm going to get the new DVD Audio player (70/75) with DTS decoding, however. Same player other than those two differences.
I had the 36FS13, but returned it. It suffered from the uneven brightness problem; most (if not all) of the S-series WEGAS do. I now have the 47" Panny, and couldn't be happier. I'm glad I didn't keep the WEGA. Other people have been extremely happy with the WEGA's.
Saw the new JVC progressive scan DVD Audio players on Crutchfield's site. They have a feature called "13-step Zoom". This seems to be a step up on their current progressive players. Anyone know anything about these players? They are nowhere to be found on JVC's website. I just bought the 65...
I had the 36FS13 and tried to get the uneven brightness problem fixed, but it didn't work. I don't think I'm aware of anyone that was able to fix it. Personally, I don't think it's fixable. I ended up returning the set.
I bought a progressive DVD player today (JVC S65), and noticed something strange. When I use the progressive output, the green cross "convergence 1" grid on the TV's user menu shifts. When I first noticed this, I assumed that the grid was just off, but then I turned off the progressive output...
I'm in the market for a progressive DVD player. The RP91 sounds nice, but is a bit pricey. I'm very interesting in getting a player that can scale non-anamorphic material. Does the JVC do this? Can it be done manually for improperly flagged discs? I've seen conflicting information about...
I don't really know how to do convergence in the service menu. I just did the user level 9-point convergence. I think there is a description of how to do it in the service manual, but I haven't ordered it yet. Others such as Carlo have done the 64-pt. convergence I believe.
