Hello folks. I'm moving to an NHT setup for my home theater, so my B&W CMC center channel in light maple is up for sale. No functional issues and an easy 9/10 in cosmetic terms (see pictures below). I'd take $250 plus actual shipping from zip 29229, which I think is a pretty reasonable deal...
XM just finished up "IT" today, which was their Encycledia of Pop. They went through over 60 years worth of charted music in chronological order. It took well over a month and spanned all six of the decades stations. I know they've done it before, but this was the first time I listened as an XM...
Again, if you can get a terrestrial repeater signal, it doesn't matter where the antenna is in relation to a window. I'm listening to XM right now in my office, which is in the middle of a large building. Full strength signal from a terrestrial repeater- you just have to make sure you have the...
I'm about a month into my XM experience, and in that time I've got one subscription (home) to 3 subscriptions (home, work, car). Couldn't be happier at the wonderful diversity of music I have to choose from in each place. Amazingly, my office is located in the middle of a building near no...
Definitely go directly to a head unit instead of a tape adapter or FM modulator if you can. If you're any kind of audiophile, the drop in sound quality with either of those other setups could be quite annoying. The Kenwood free tuner is an attractive option if you're going to buy a head unit...
Having only directly experienced XM to this point, I wonder if this could have something to do with how XM is distributing their available bandwidth. I say this because there seems to be a lot of variability in sound quality between different XM channels. As an example, check out Watercolors...
Oh, I already have a great opinion of XM Radio, Ron. I've had it for all of one day and already find myself wishing I had signed up 2 years ago. The diversity of music available is just staggering when you first start playing with it. The fact that it is now commercial free on the music channels...
Having purchased an XM system just today, I thought I'd educate myself a bit further by perusing XMfan.com. Imagine my surprise when I see a page directing me to a new site under works and alluding to a rift between two of the site's founders. Since I'm not even a member of XMfan and only read...
If you're just interested in cheap A/B receiver but don't care about much else, I picked up the DE185 during a Best Buy open item sale for like $90 OTD. I'm using it in my office at work with a 5 disc changer and some dinky speakers :)
No comment on the performance of this or other DE models...
The B4 driver problem looks pretty similar to what happened to the early Stryke AV12's. I bet they'll replace it with a more cosmetically perfect driver if you ask.
It was nice meeting everybody on Saturday. I meant to take some more pictures, but just ended grabbing a few shots of the equipment we were listening to on the way out. Also, since I mentioned how horrid the traffic on I35 was around Ben White, I tried to take a picture of the...
I had a chance to listen to the XQ1's yesterday and came away pretty impressed- much more so than I expected to be. Very nice soundstaging and solid imaging- the speakers did a great job of disappearing and didn't seem particularly sensitive to room placement to pull off the trick. The bass was...
Travis has the right idea. Part of the fun of a PR system is the ease of changing its tuning frequency when you feel like experimenting. I used that poster-tack stuff and washers in a way pretty similar to what Travis described. If you get it wedged into the tube pretty well it won't come out...
I worked at Best Buy a long time ago when the Eosones were sold. I actually picked up a pair of RSF600's (the larger dual woofer towers) for something like $450. Though the speakers are somewhat mediocre for music, they do work pretty well in a home theatre environment.
Actually, the Zaldek's have binding posts as well. I'm playing around with a pair Zaldek 300's that a co-worker bought recently, and they'll probably end up as garage speakers for his new house.
They seem to have pretty reasonable bass extension (which makes sense b/c they're large for a...
A co-worker just bought a pair of the Zaldek bookshelves. I think they're gonna be great... as garage speakers :) Best Buy is certainly going in an interesting direction carrying Wharfedale and soon Klipsch. Maybe it will get some quality speakers into a few more homes instead of the usual...
Looks nice Jeff. You don't live south of austin by any chance, do you? I just finished moving my sister into a new garden home near Slaughter/I-35 and her living room looks exactly like yours. As cookie-cutter as that neighborhood is, I think I may know who to blame it on if she complains about...
Sounds like a cool event. I might attend, even if I don't have anything current to bring.
Mark, I think I remember you from when I was a student at UT and they were thinking about moving the bass list. I've been doing gearhead stuff for the last year or two (including a gearhead job), but...
Howdy all. Nice to see some familiar faces (err... names) from my days on the Bass List. My name's Keith, and I'm a recent graduate of UT-Austin, now working as an automotive research engineer at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio.
