    Maximum TV size for room?

I have a 61" Sony HS10 in a room that is about the same size as yours. I sit about 10-11" back. It doesn't seem too big at all--in fact, I'm thinking of getting a front projector, so I, too, can watch a 120" screen! mike

    New Mits 46809--Need suggestions

Thanks a bunch. I went there, and you're right--lots of good info. I did several searches, but I still can't find specific info on how to do a 64 point service mode convergence. I found several suggestions about convergence, and the service codes for the 2002 models, but nothing in the way of...

    New Mits 46809--Need suggestions

Just got my new Mits. I've set it up with Avia. Any other suggestions for tweaks? What are the most important tweaks to do that will give me the biggest picture improvement? Anyone know the service code for doing a service mode convergence? If you have any suggestions on how to get even...

DLP vs. LCD - The Discussion Thread that Combines Them ALL

I'd go over to the AVS forum and do a search on the 340b. I remember reading there somewhere (and in several posts) where people specifically stated to get the 340, but STAY AWAY from the 340B. Can't remember why, but I thought I'd give you a heads up to check it out. Maybe someone on this...

    four receivers on directv ??

What a great explanation! I, too, have two receivers running from just a splitter. Now I finally understand why sometimes they both work (get different channels at the same time) and why other times one or the other can't find a signal. Guess I'll go ahead and hook up another line from the...

    odd question regarding sony sat-hd100

Yes, it will upconvert 480i to 1080i, but I don't think it does a very good job. Plus if it's an upconvert of 4:3 material, you get letterboxing all the way around. I prefer to leave mine set to 480i/1080i Variable. On that setting, the HD100 will pass the 480i signal through the component...

RCA DTC 100 Pass 480i through component?

Thanks, Jim. I knew it doesn't have component, and that you need an adaptor. I was just wondering if it passed 480i. Thanks for the info--I guess I'll stay with the HD100. mike

RCA DTC 100 Pass 480i through component?

Does the RCA DTC100 pass 480i through component outputs (I know you need the VGA/component adapter), or does it only pass 1080i? I just bought a Sony HD100, and it will pass both 1080i and 480i through the component connection, so you don't have to change inputs. I'm thinking of taking it...

Is Sony KP53HS10 TV a good buy?

Mark, I have a Sony 61HS10 and love it. Visit this site http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sonyhs10 for some excellent info on almost any topic of the HS10, including comparisons to the new HS20/30s coming out, as well as info on where to get a 53HS10 for $1999 plus $30 shipping, I believe...

    HD or No?

Jeremy, I would recommend a 53 or 61" Sony HS10 or HS20/30. With the 61" Sony, you basically get a great 4:3 set for regular viewing, but also HD capability and anamorphic squeeze (for anamorphic DVDs) on Video 5. It's like having a built-in 56" 16x9 TV, which is pretty darn big...and priced...

    Returning an HDTV decoder box

I want to try the Sony HD100 with my HS10 RPTV. I already have Direct TV with an eliptical dish (so I can tune in the HD sat) and an RCA receiver. If I order the HD100, and don't like it, how do I return it? I guess I'm confused about the procedure. What about the card inside it? Or do I...

6 Channel Receiver Under $600 - Outlaw has finally has some company...

The Sony DB line of receivers like the DB940 have gotten excellent reviews. They offer very good sound (especially for HT) with honest power ratings from 20-20,000. To categorically make a statement that all Sony receivers except the ES and Elite lines are crap is not only stupid (have you...

    Why I Dished DirecTV

Good post and good thoughts! I would have gone with Dish if they had the NFL games. But since that is primarily why I got satellite tv, Direct was the only choice for me. I think programming should be the driver in making the decsion. For people who like Sports, go Direct. If HDTV is the...

    Anamorphic Squeeze

Ooops. I meant to say if you run a 4:3 DVD through Video 5 with both TV and DVD set to 16:9, it will look squished. sorry ------------------ Consuming air and other valuable resources since 1953.

    Anamorphic Squeeze

I've got the KP61HS10. If you play a non-anamorphic DVD through Video 5 with the DVD and TV set to 16:9, it will look squished. What I do is run component cables into Video 5, and leave both the DVD player and TV set to 16x9. Then, I run an S-video cable to Video 4, leave the DVD set to 16x9...

    Direct TV Advice Needed

There are some very good deals at americansattelite.com where you can get it either with or without installation at some excellent prices, and you don't have to sign up for the really expensive programming packages. I got an RCA eliptical dish and DD receiver delivered and installed for $249...

Dolby digital how do you know?

You got it! Just switch your receiver to digital, hook up your Toslink cable, and you'll be able to use all the modes/sound fields of your receiver. At least, that's how mine works. good luck. mike ------------------ Consuming air and other valuable resources since 1953.

Dolby digital how do you know?

I run the optical cable from the sat box to the back of my Sony receiver, and I get great sound even without DD. I don't have any other audio cables connected. My Sony receiver has a blue indicator that lights up when it's getting a 5.1 signal. For regular viewing that's not DD, I just choose...

    Newbie Signal Strength question

Just got my DirectPlus system with RCA 480RE. I'm getting a 90 signal strength on the 101, but can only seem to get up to 73 or 74 on the 119--and if I do get it higher, 101 signal drops significantly. Is this typical, or should I be getting 90 on both? Thanks for the help. mike...
