Eye Strain with my new TV - any ideas?

Thanks for all of the replies. Contrast (Picture as Sony calls it) is turned almost all the way off. If you go into the video menu and select contrast, only 4 bars are on. I could probably lower it a little bit if needed. I experimented with the sharpness some more. If I turn it all the...

Eye Strain with my new TV - any ideas?

The sharpness is turned on maybe about 50%. I was surprised at this. However, with the sharpness turned all the way down, the sharpness pattern on DVE was way too soft and out of focus. It didn't come into clear focus until around 50%.

Eye Strain with my new TV - any ideas?

Hi, I just got the Sony KV-32HS420 widescreen tv. It's a 30" widescreen tube tv. Here's the situation. - Watching regular cable tv (not-digital, not hdtv) is fine on my eyes. - Watching dvds causes severe eye strain. - TV has been calibrated with Digital Video Essentials. - DVD Player...

    Calibration help with Sony KV-30HS420

Thanks for the replies. I read a review of my dvd player and the reviewer said it clips below black video. Also, I found that there is a difference between Standard, Movie and Pro modes. I set all settings exactly identical for the 3 modes. I then compared the 3 using the same source...

One more question: Do the video modes matter? Vivid, Standard, Movie, Pro. Do these just alter the basic settings? Or do they alter things in the service menu? thanks

    Calibration help with Sony KV-30HS420

I just got the Sony KV-30HS420. I am using Digital Video Essentials to calibrate. I wanted to compare my results with others who own the HS420 series. Picture: Final setting was only 3 or 4 total bars. (Almost all the way off!) I was surprised at how low this was. I could probably even set it...

Center Channel - ok to box in?

Hi: I am buying some new furniture for my HT. I will have a shelf right above the TV. There will be about 15 inches of space above the shelf for my center channel. My main concern: This shelf has walls on the left, right, and back. There is also a top shelf above where the center will...

    Speakers - temperature tolerances?

We had a bad ice storm and lost power for about 4 days. It got down to at least 38 degrees inside the house, possibly lower. Does anyone know if temperatures like this could harm speakers? What about other components like receiver, tv, etc??? Haven't tried out the receiver and speakers...

    Cats and Speaker question

Here's my solution which hasn't been mentioned yet. It may not be practical depending on your setup. I also noticed the cat liked to scratch the sub. I found an old magazine rack and filled it with a couple of books to give it some weight. When not using the HT, just slide the magazine rack...
