Now, I'm not really a fan of westerns, but that's beside the point. Here, the author is merely reflecting on a certain staleness and unoriginality. Describing a genre as "just like a western, but..." is an open invitation to laziness on the part of the writers After all, good Westerns aren't...
Apparently, the moral of this little fable is that most, if not all technical support issues will resolve themselves unexpectedly. Check to see that the audio is in fact digital surround, and not just stereo.
I've noticed that many of the cop shows tend to treat Private Investigators as dilettantes, failed cops, and obstructionists. Homicide and NCIS for instance. Patricia Cornwell has been quoted as saying she doesn't write "mysteries", she writes "crime novels." Personally, I think Cornwall's a...
Well... An good display may already use 10 or 12 bits internally. It makes gamma adjustments that more precise. Or it may be used to good effect in the scalar. Similarly, an outboard video processor may use 10 to 12 bits internally. Before HDMI 1.3, the processor would have to truncate...
Hmm. You'd really have to look at the chipset. From what I understand, many video filters use 10 or 12 or 16 bits per pixel, just to minimize roundoff errors-- and cut it back down to 8 bits at the very end. A HDMI 1.3 path would eliminate this step. The wider color gamut, on the other hand...
According to the comparison chart, the 906, 876, and 875 all have the "DSD/Direct Mode". The 806 and 706 are listed as having DSD support but not "DSD/Direct." I have no idea what this means. ;) Those lesser models don't have Burr Brown DACs, HQV video processing, or Audyssey XT, either. And...
Hmm. Does she have a subwoofer? Most bookshelf (or monitor speakers-- bookcases can interfere with the sound) don't get into the lowest octave, which is rather important for the bass guitar, drums and string bass. Some people don't mind the bass rolloff, but it can get fatiguing. That...
You can use the Activity Monitor to gauge your need for new memory and new CPU. (run it while you're trying to do real work, or at least mimicking it)/ If most of your memory is Free or Inactive, you don't need more RAM. If most of your CPU is idle, you don't need a new CPU.
Well, I know that my panel doesn't handle 540p. 576p, yes, but 540p is a tad strange. My guess is that the bluray players squeeze it down to 540p, and "upconvert" the results to 1080i...

Oppo never made a 997. 970 upconverts over component if hacked. I'm not sure about the 980 or 983. I know that oppo's 971 has pretty shoddy component outs, and the oppo 981 omits them entirely.
Electronics companies should hire more English majors... The manual is not very detailed, written in a peculiar dialect, and does not cover this issue, nor does it supply a "Reset to Factory settings" code. However, you may be able to set the resolution to AUTO.
Consider this. An atsc channel is 19.38 Mb/s. A standard episode is, what? 47 minutes long? So, 2820 seconds and ... about 7 gigabytes per episode. A BD-50 should be good for 7 episodes, if you limited yourself to broadcast quality mpeg-2/ac-3.
The Sarah Conner Chronicles were broadcast in 720p with dolby digital 5.1 sound. If you want the same picture quality (minus bugs, dropouts and macroblocking), you'll have to go with bluray.
No offense, but who watches TV from 40 feet away? this calculator is reasonably good. It suggests that at 16 ft, you'd probably need a 120 inch screen to appreciate 1080p. At 12 ft, a 90 inch screen is needed. And since you have a budget, front projection is the only way to go. (This...
